OUR WAY FORWARD
CMC Vellore Kannigapuram Campus The CMC Vellore Kannigapuram Campus is dedicated to catering to the trauma needs through a state-of-theart Level I trauma care centre as well as providing high-end specialty care. It will have 1500 beds, 35 high end operating theatres and over 250 intensive care unit beds. Due to the pandemic, there have been delays in the commissioning the project. However the facility was used during both the waves of the pandemic to cater to patients with COVID. The hospital should be operational by 2022.
The Paul Brand Block The Paul Brand Block formerly the old Student Nurses' Hostel was converted to an Orthopaedic facility in the main campus. Special permission was given to use this block during the second wave of the pandemic. This facility has 105 low dependency beds with 11 high dependency beds and 20 recovery beds. There are 8 main Operating theatres with 2 Day Care theaters and 1 septic operating theatre.

The Rural Unit for Health and Social Affairs (RUHSA)
CMC's Community Health and Development programme (CHAD)
In 1944, a model-training centre for rural health care at Kavanur village was proposed. Later on this was renamed as RUHSA. The expansion of its outpatient department has created new spaces for programmes that will benefit the residents of the K.V. Kuppam block. It caters to the primary and secondary care of the families in that surrounding area. RUHSA also provides fieldwork and education for doctors, nurses and allied health professionals, clinical research and numerous family support programmes for local residents.
Established in 1955it has its own training centre, outpatient clinic, secondary care hospital and provides training to medical, nursing, paramedical students, postgraduates and staff. It is a world-renowned centre for epidemiological and translational research. CHAD serves rural communities of the Kaniyambadi block and the tribal hamlets of Jawadhi hills. Apart from basic medical services, CHAD helps in occupational therapy, health education, nutritional education and overall community service.
The Low Cost Effective Care Unit (LCECU) (1982). It caters to the needs of those living in the urban slums of Vellore. LCECU works holistically to bring not only healing to the body but also takes care of familial and community relationships.

Yasodha's Story Mrs. Yasodha* is a 54-year-old woman who lost both her parents when she was just a child and has never been to school. At the age of 18, she got married to the man she loved but she was abandoned after 5 years due to her ill health. She had to face rejection from her in-laws as well as they felt she would be a burden for them. Since then, Yasodha has been living all alone for the past 31 years in this village and earns some money plucking flowers. She earns Rs.150/- per week along with the old age pension, she receives from the government. She suffers from diabetes, hypertension and chronic respiratory disease. During this COVID-19 pandemic, she was one among the millions who lost their source of meagre earning making it hard to make ends meet. She needed material support and has received the relief package from RUHSA team. * Name changed

Continuous Ministry during the Pandemic Telephone Prayers: Chaplains offered prayers through the telephone for patients who requested such prayers. Care for the grieving: When a death happened, the Chaplains would call the family members and provide them comfort through prayer. Funeral arrangements: Whenever, there was a death of someone who did not have a local priest/pastor to care, a Chaplain was available to officiate the funeral prayers and burial. All these burials were conducted as per protocols laid by the government.
People helping people Our work here in CMC, Vellore is all about people - The staff and students and the people we serve – young, old, rich, poor, of many different faiths and with many different needs. When people donate for patient care at CMC, their gift goes directly to help patients.
11-year-old Dilip (name changed) has had many surgeries from the time he was a little boy. When he was born, they found out his bowels were not completely formed. This made it difficult for him to empty his bowels and did not have control over his bowel movements. In February this year, the Department of Paediatric Surgery requested funds from the Emergency Fund for one more surgery that would help Dilip have a close to normal life. After the surgery, Dilip is doing well. The surgery has helped him to be confident when he is out of his house and be a normal child like everyone else. Every Rupee that is donated pays for some part of a person's treatment. Our dream is that we should never have to turn anyone away because they can't afford their treatment. CMC tries to keep its charges low, and provides free and subsidised treatment to as many as we can.
