First of its kind in the history of CMC, the event was inaugurated by the Director, Dr. Sunil Chandy and was attended by the Principal Dr. Anna B Pulimood, Vice-Principal Dr. Solomon Sathishkumar, conference Director & Professor B. Ramesh Babu, former professor of Department of Library &Information Science, University of Madras and Dr. R.P. Kumar, former Chief Librarian of AIIMS, New Delhi. The conference attracted impressive participation of 250 participants from different parts of the world including from Sri Lanka, South Korea,
Nigeria, Thailand, Bangladesh and Council Member: Mr. Robert Moses representations from almost all the Hospital:Fairbank James Friendship Memorial Hospital, Vadala Mission and others States of India. Besides the registered participants, the Organizing committee Sunday Services : September 10, 2017 had invited very distinguished 6.00 pm : Scudder Auditorium Dr. Sunil Chandy professional experts to deliver plenary lectures on the theme and sub-themes 6.30 pm : Hospital Chapel Hospital Choir Sing Song Service of the International Conference. Among the invited international faculties, We welcome: Professor Dong-Geun Oh from the Dr.Balaji V, Professor, Department of University of Keimyung, South Korea, Microbiology, on his return from sabbatical leave. Professor Wathmanel Senevirantne Dr.Rachel George Chandy, Professor, from Open University, Sri Lanka and Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Professor Sujin Butdisuwan Unit I, on her return from sabbatical leave. Mahasarakham from the University of The RFID enabled Library System was Thailand were the keynote speakers for dedicated at the Gault Library by the conference. Rev.Anantha Arputha Mary and The conference paid rich tribute to the Father of Library Sciences, Dr.S.R.Ranganathan as it was held in honor of his 125th birth anniversary. At the pre-conference day proceedings, about 172 unpublished articles were published and released by Dr. Sunil Chandy and the first copy was received by the Principal, Dr. Anna Pulimood. CME Update on Fetal Growth Restriction A half day CME Update on “Fetal Growth Restriction” was organized by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit IV on 12th August 2017. Fetal Growth restriction is the leading cause of stillbirths globally, accounting for nearly 43% of the cases. The CME aimed at creating awareness towards this preventable cause of perinatal mortality. Dr. Reeta Vijayaselvi, Associate Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit IV spoke on “Risk Assessment and Prevention of Recurrence”; Dr. Anne George, Associate Professor, Community Health Department spoke on “Diagnosis of Fetal Growth Restriction in Low Resource Settings”; ‘The Clinical management of Pregnancies Complicated by Fetal Growth Restriction” was handled by Dr.Liji Sarah David, Assistant Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit IV; Dr.Mintoo Tegrestina, D.M Fellow (Neonatology) spoke on Complications in a Growth Restricted Neonate. A panel discussion based on clinical case scenarios was led by Dr.Manisha Madhai Beck, Professor and Acting Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit IV. The CME ended with the open house that witnessed active participation by the audience. The CME was attended by over 70 delegates from in and around Vellore.

Retirements Mr. Jaya Prasad Selvines, Clerk Typist Gr.II, Department of General Pathology retired on 29th August, 2017 after 22 years of dedicated service to the institution. His wife Mrs. Punitha is working in Voorhees School. They are blessed with one daughter Ms.Ida Princy. Mr. M. Ananda Aruldoss, Sr.Gr.I Artisan, Department of Civil Engineering retired on 1st September, 2017 after 31 years of selfless service to the institution. His wife is Mrs. Kalaivani. The CMC community is grateful for their hard work and dedication to the institution and wishes them a blessed and peaceful retirement.
Obituary: Dr. Sarojini Devanandan Dr. Sarojini Devanandan (nee Vedamanikam), MBBS batch of 1954 and retired Professor and Head, Department of Anaesthesia on 31st August, 2017. After completing her MBBS, Dr. Saro did her postgraduate training in Anaesthesiology and joined this Department in CMC where she worked until her retirement in 1995. Dr. Saro was known to be a strict disciplinarian, particularly in the areas she felt this was required. In the department of Anaesthesiology, Neuro-anaesthesia and Cardiac-anaesthesia were her greatest love. One of her significant contributions in the Department was in the development of the Recovery Room. It was largely due to her strong insistence and perseverance that this was introduced in CMC. It was also due to her insistence that the Recovery Room was staffed by a trained nurse and was equipped with an anaesthesia machine even before this became a standard of care in the country. Dr. Saro was regular at all academic sessions and was always willing to learn and share her expertise. Following her retirement from CMC, Dr. Saro continued to work in mission hospitals such as the Scudder Memorial Hospital in Ranipet, Bethesda Hospital in Ambur and SIHR & LC, Karigiri for as long as she was able. Dr. Saro was very much a family person and on most working days, Dr. Marcus Devanandan would have lunch with Dr. Saro in theatre complex. Although their daughters, Krishna and Malini went to Kodaikanal International School for their schooling, Dr. Saro ensured that she remained actively involved in their education by serving on their school board. They had a large foster family, and their fosters have fond memories of their interaction and time spent with them. Dr. Saro is also well known for her high civic sense and whenever possible, spared no effort to improve the surroundings. Some of the improvements in the College Oval Ground can be attributed to her persistence and follow up to ensure that changes were made to make the ground more convenient and safe for its users. After her diagnosis of gall bladder cancer with metastasis, Dr. Saro made a decision to go in only for palliative care, and as one of her former colleagues put it, she faced death with dignity.
