he 8th Annual Research day was held on 10 th and 11 th October 2017 for the first time as a two day event. This year saw an excess of 270 abstracts among which 122 were slotted for podium presentations and another 150 as posters. The Abstracts were categorized into Medical Specialties, Surgical Specialties, Allied Health Sciences, Basic Sciences, Medical Students, Nursing, Field and Epidemiology, Bioengineering and PhD. There were 86 prize winners together in both podium and poster presentation.

Inauguration of Campus Development & Fellowship Dinner The College of Nursing, Kagithapattarai Campus celebrated the inauguration of the various developments within the campus on 21st September 2017 with great festivity. Dr. Sunil Chandy, former Director cut the ribbon and opened the new gates and Rev. Ananthi offered the prayer of dedication. An overview of the developments within the Kagithapattarai campus over the years was presented by Dr. Selva Titus Chacko, Dean, College of Nursing followed by felicitations by Former Director Dr. Sunil Chandy and Director Dr. J.V. Peter. During the programme the following developments were inaugurated. The water sumps with a capacity of 5 lakh litres of water were dedicated by Rev. Dr. Arul Dhas. The Electrical Equipments at Friendship Chapel in the College of Nursing was dedicated by Rev. Rainard Pearson. Dr. Sunil Chandy inaugurated the Projector and the Music system and Dr. J.V.Peter inaugurated the Piano by playing a beautiful worship song. The newly installed gymnasium at the nursing student’s hostel was also inaugurated. A special word of thanks and appreciation was offered to the G.S. Office, all the Engineering and Maintenance staff for their hard work. The programme concluded with the Dean and faculty of College of Nursing bidding farewell to the outgoing Director Dr. Sunil Chandy and welcoming the Director Dr.J.V. Peter with a fellowship dinner.
Commemoration of World Elders Day In commemoration of World Elders Day, the Department of Medical Nursing and CNE & Research (College of Nursing) in collaboration with the department of Geriatrics conducted a one day Workshop titled “Fundamentals of Elder Care” on 28th September 2017. There were 50 participants from various districts of Tamil Nadu. During the Inaugural session Dr. Surekha V, HOD, Department of Geriatrics, Dr. Selva Titus Chacko, Dean, College of Nursing, and Dr. Premila Lee, Nursing Superintendent gave their felicitation and appreciated the department for being motivated to conduct 6th annual workshop on Elder Care. The morning sessions included discussions on topics such as ‘Incontinence and nursing care in elderly’ and ‘non communicable diseases and Depression in elderly’. Following which a panel discussion on Psychosocial challenges faced by the elderly and bridging the generation gap were presented. For the afternoon session four skill stations namely Mini-cognitive & ADL assessment, Hypodermoclysis, TUG test, Fall assessment and Screening for NCDs were organized. The Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council awarded 10 credit hours for this Workshop.

The Medical Education Department ( MCI Nodal centre for National Faculty Development ) conducted the first contact course of the 5th Advance Course in Medical Education (ACME) from 5th - 9 th September 2017. Twenty five senior faculty members from 36 affiliated medical colleges attended this programme. The second contact course for 2016 of the 4 Advance Course in Medical Education was conducted on 9th, 11th & 12th September, 2017. Twenty three participants presented research posters detailing implementation of educational projects in their home institutions. th

Obituaries • Dr. Sara Lukose (nee Eapen) (Batch of 1948) on 6th October 2017. Dr. Sara worked briefly at the CSI Kalyani Hospital, Chennai after retiring and devoting the larger part of her life to caring for her younger sister Mary, through whom the family came into close friendship with Dr. Paul Brand and Dr. Ernest Fritschi. She is survived by her son Sujith and daughters Meera and Geetha. Her grandson Dr. Rohit Ninan Benjamin (MBBS Batch of 2001) is working in the Department of Neurosciences, CMC.
