8 National Conference of Paediatric Anaesthesia 2016 was conducted by the Department of Anaesthesia, Christian Medical College, Vellore between 28th January to 30th January 2016. The conference was attended by 300 delegates and 50 faculty. The Faculty contributed significantly by sharing their knowledge at all stages of the conference like workshop, sessions, judging the podium and posters and answering the various queries of the delegates during break times. International faculties came from Singapore, Australia, Italy and USA. th
The academic session started with Pre-Conference Workshop and was followed by two days of intense sessions for the anaesthetic care of children. Pre-Conference Workshop was conducted on 28th January 2016 in the hospital campus. Workshop had 8 high skilled stations with 4 simulation stations. Simulation was done with high fidelity Mannequins. All the stations had renowned National and International faculty. “The Training the Trainer� station was focused station to improve upon the teaching skill. Faculty highlighted the importance of preparation and planning. Pre-Conference workshop was followed by inauguration ceremony on 28th January evening. The chief guests of the occasion were Dr. Sunil Chandy, Director, Dr. C.E. Eapen, Medical Superintendent and Dr. Alfred Job Daniel, Principal, Christian Medical College. Professor, Central Electron Microscopy Unit, Division of GI Sciences, on January 31, 2016. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved members of the family at this time of grief and loss.

The Ceremony concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Dr. Ekta Rai, Organising Secretary. The next two days of conference were intense academic session with interaction amidst of comfort, friendliness, delicious food. The sessions very well highlighted the theme of the conference “Prepare and Prevent”. MRS. PUSHP A LLOUIS OUIS RETIRES PUSHPA Mrs. Pushpa Louis, Sr. Sel. Gr. Social Worker, Department of Public Relations retired on January 31, 2016 after 37 years of dedicated service to the Institution. She has a Master’s degree in Social Work from the School of Social Work in Madras. She joined in 1979 in the Department of Neurological Sciences as a Health Educator and later she worked in the Department of PMR and then in the Public Relations Office since 1988. In 2009, she took charge of Public Relations Office. She was passionately involved in helping the poor patients in the outpatient department by issuing free registration slips, offering concession for prescribed drugs through ‘Good Samaritan Fund’. She was one of the 4 members in the Centenary Endowment Fund committee. Her commitment and dedication to assess the socioeconomic status of patients to be eligible for Centenary Endowment funds support for high-tech treatment was commendable. She also took care of the ‘Chatram’ that provides subsidized accommodation facility for very poor patients and patient relatives. In addition, she was involved in addressing the grievances of patients and relatives, sending get-well and birthday cards to the staff of CMC, managing lost and found articles in the hospital premises and organising the gift distributions under the Christmas Cheer Fund programme. She also facilitated hospital tour for visiting students and others. Many retired staff gratefully remembers the help rendered to them by her when they come to Public Relations Office. She was very hard working. She was able to coordinate the activities of the Department in an efficient manner. She was easily approachable, very friendly and co-operative with all the staff and the public. Her willingness to help in any situation and her kindness were appreciated by everyone in the Department. She hails from a devout Christian family in Vellore and is the oldest among three siblings. Her father, Rev.Philip Asirvatham was the former Chaplain and her mother, Mrs. Asirvatham was the former Supervisor, Artificial Limb Centre in CMC. Her husband, Mr. Louis Gnanasekaran is a retired Manager of the Syndicate Bank. They have 2 daughters – Preeti is married with 2 children and is currently working as Sr. Demonstrator in the College of Nursing, CMCH and Vineeti Louis is a software Engineer in Bangalore. As she retires, Mrs. Pushpa Louis will be remembered for her Christian work ethos and her commitment to this institution. The CMC Community and the Department of Public Relations Office thank her for the many years of dedicated service to the institution and wish her God’s abundant blessings as she enters a new phase in life. DEDIC ATION OF CHITT OOR IP SER VICES DEDICA CHITTOOR SERVICES The inpatient services in CMC Vellore Chittoor North campus was blessed and dedicated for the Glory of God and the service of the people in Chittoor and the nation on the 21st of January 2016 through a video conferencing link by the Rt. Rev. A. Rajavelu, Bishop of the CSI Vellore Diocese. This was done in the presence of the Director, Dr. Sunil Chandy, other administrators, Chairman, Dr. M.C.Mathew and honourable members of the CMC council. This was witnessed by several staff and students in the hospital, CHTC and the Chittoor campus to where this was relayed live by the video link. Dr. Raju Titus Chacko, Associate Director campus development briefed the gathering about various facilities that were provided in the IP Facility and the possibilities and potential of this Campus. He thanked all those involved in this entire process. Rt. Rev. Rajavelu prayed a prayer of dedication and blessed the facilities. In the Chittoor campus Rev. Mani Bhusan Das led the gathering in singing and prayer. Mr. J.P. Peter Special Officer cut the ribbon to symbolise the opening of the facility.
CONGRA TULA TIONS CONGRATULA TULATIONS Dr. George Koshy Chiramel, Associate Professor of Radiodiagnosis, presented "Outcomes in Budd Chiari Syndrome therapy results of a prospective study" during the annual conference of the Indian Radiology and Imaging Society last week in Bhubaneswar and won the Dr. Ashok Mukherjee medal for best paper. Dr. Vikas K. Yadav, Assistant Professor of Radiodiagnosis has won the first prize in weekly online quiz of Barnard Institute Radiology, Chennai (July 2015 - January 2016 session). Dr. Reena A. Pal, Postgraduate Registrar, Department of Anaesthesia has won the 1st prize in Podium presentation in 8th National Conference of Paediatric Anaesthesia 2016 held at Scudder Auditorium, CMC, Bagayam from January 29 to 30, 2016. 15 TH ANNU AL CONFERENCE OF ASSOCIA TION OF PLASTIC SUR GEONS ANNUAL ASSOCIATION SURGEONS Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry Association of Plastic Surgeons conducted their 15th Annual Conference on January 22nd and 23rd, 2016 in Bagayam campus. Under the Chairmanship of Dr. Ashish Kumar Gupta the conference was highly successful. Attended by eminent Plastic surgeons, the conference was immensely enlightening for students and veterans alike. All delegates not only appreciated the scientific sessions and wide array of topics covered but also admired the innovative measures taken to reach out to more people via social media, the personal touch they received and our hospitality. We thank all those whose contribution made this event a success. OPT SA D AY CELEBRA TIONS OPTS DA CELEBRATIONS OPTSA Day 2016, (Occupational and Physiotherapy Students Association), celebrated their annual OPTSA Day event and entertainment programme on January 23, 2016 at Scudder Auditorium. The chief guest for the event was Mr. Suresh K. the Art Therapist and volunteer at the Rehabilitation Institute. He was honoured by the Director, Dr. Sunil Chandy with a memento. The Entertainment programme took place under the theme “Avant Garde� it consisted of the enthusiastic, energetic performances of OPTSA students as well as their staff and alumni. Apart from the colourful, artistic and beautiful decorations and backdrop painting (all handmade by students), the attraction of the show, as always, remained the special and inspirational performance by the patients of the Mary Verghese Trust under Rehabilitation Institute. INA UGURA TION OF THE WELL BAB Y IMMUNIS ATION CLINIC INAUGURA UGURATION BABY IMMUNISA The renovated Well Baby Immunisation Clinic was dedicated on February 3, 2016 by Ms. Saramma Kuruvilla in the presence of Child Health Department faculty and staff. Dr. Rajeev Zachariah K, Senior Medical Officer, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Raju Titus Chacko, Associate Director, Dr. Pramila Lee, Nursing Superintendent and Dr. Indira Agarwal, Professor and Head, Department of Paediatrics, felicitated the Clinic staff for having catered to over 1 lakh clinic attendees in 2015-16. Mrs Lilly Prasad, Professor, Paediatric Nursing proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Debasis Das Adhikari, Deputy Medical Superintendent, inaugurated the renovated clinic. We hope the modifications undertaken to make provision for an additional cash counter and vaccine registration counter would make the clinic more user-friendly. The programme was well attended by the department members and well wishers. RETIREMENTS Mr. M. Barnabas, Sr. Electrician Gr.II, College Maintenance retired on February 03, 2016 after 27 years of service to the institution. He has a son and a daughter. His daughter, Ms. Preethi is a Staff Nurse in M.H.C. and Son, Mr. Anand is a Radiographer in Radiology. Mr. M. Selvaraj, Sr. Secretary, Mechanical Engineering Department retired on February 06, 2016 after 32 years of service to the institution. His wife, Mrs. Mala is a Secretary in SHARE (Self Help and Rural Education) Adukamparai. He has a son, Mr. Kingsly Manoj Kumar is a Research Officer and doing Ph.D at JIPMER, Pondicherry. He received "Best Secretary Award" for 2014 by Vellore South Rotary Club. CMC thanks them for their many years of dedicated services to the institution and wishes them a blessed retired life.
