As on May 19, 2015, the World Health Organisation (WHO) from Nepal has reported that there have been 8,617 deaths, 16,808 were injured , 5.6 Million affected and 2.8 Million were displaced. Our team that went on our behalf reports as follows: Our objectives: To respond by providing appropriate health care to the affected victims as per FMT (Foreign Medical Team) guidelines by W. H O and to assess the situation at the affected area and report to CMC for future long term plan for rehabilitation. Type of work : Most of us in Team A1 reached a camp site on the 9th of this month and joined in all kinds of relief work with one of our partner groups. This base camp was at Chitwan along Dhading district, one of the worst affected districts. The base camp leader and her team assist the affected by providing the resources for daily need, tents and negotiate with district officials for a new living place. We moved along with them in assisting to provide these resources to the affected people. Our days began by 7 am and went on till 12 midnight. We visited affected areas and Dr.Ramesh, conversant in Nepali, interacted with the people there. We got to know that the very sick ones had been airlifted to main hospitals by the government, hence we treated those left with minor injuries and ailments. We met many non-injured but displaced people but they were reluctant to move to any place as they were still grieving. Medicines to the affected: We made contact with the district hospital and got to know that they were short of medicines. They were so happy that CMC sent adequate and relevant medicines at this time of need. The authorities sorted them out and dispatched to various camps in that region. We visited a church where they had 2 patients with probable spine and pelvic injuries. They were examined and referred to the nearest District hospital as they were stable. We conducted a health camp involving 30 to 40 patients at Dhading. This involved assessment of their injuries and a general checkup. Dr Health Education: Health teachings were given by

Grade Staff Clerk-II, Public Relations Department on May 19, 2015. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved members of the families at this time of grief and loss.
There was heavy rain in Pokhra during our visit. As the camp at Dhading established by our host were moving on with many other activities we realized that we could be a burden to them. On May 12,th while travelling, the team experienced the 7.3 Richter scale earthquake in Kathmandu first hand. It was indeed frightening and disturbing to see buildings falling down and the uncertainty with which life moves on. By then there was invitation from other partners including TLM’s Anandban outside of Kathmandu in Lalitpur District. They have been handling all those trauma patients sent by the Government from seven districts. Two from among us (a doctor and a nurse) stayed back to help the tired out team. We intend to meet as a whole group and others for evaluation and comprehensive recommendations for the future. In the meantime there is a request to send engineers to assess the health posts and other public buildings in Dhading District. We may have to continue to be involved for a longer term. CONGRA TULA TIONS CONGRATULA TULATIONS Dr. Boopalan, Associate Professor of Orthopaedics has won the following awards during the AO Trauma Asia Pacific Grant Writing Workshop and the 5th National Conference of AO Trauma India, held at New Delhi : Well Written grant titled "Injectable Chondroprogenitors to treat Goat knee Osteoarthritis." Best paper for Podium presentation titled "Quadrant Fixation of Tibial Plateau Fractures through Angiosome sparing Approaches." Dr.Vedantam Rajshekar, Professor of Neuorsurgery delivered the Presidential Oration of the Indian Society of Neuro Oncology at the completion of his term as President of the Society on March 28, 2015 at Cochin. He was invited as the first Suraiya Khanum Visting Professor by the Department of Neurosurgery, Groote Schuur Hospital, University of Cape Town, South Africa from 19 - 24 April 2015. During this visit he delivered the Inaugural Suraiya Khanum Public Lecture. Dr.John Samuel Banerji, Department of Urology Unit I has been awarded Best Poster Award for Renal Transplantation and Vascular Surgery Section, at the American Urological Association (AUA) annual meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA (May 15- 19, 2015). FIFTH IN-SERVICE TRAINING PROGRAMME The Department of Hospital Management Studies and Staff Training and Development conducted the fifth “In-Service” Training Programme (9th batch in English and 10th batch in Tamil) for the year 2015, on “Leadership and Personality Development” for M.S andG.S appointed staff from 20th to 22nd April 2015 at CMC. This programme was well attended by 65 staff in two batches conducted concurrently. One batch consists of M.S and G.S appointed English speaking staff (Technicians, Administrative, secretarial, front office and clerical staff) and another batch consists of G.S appointed Tamil speaking staff (Hospital Attendant and HousekeepingAttendant). The In-Service Training Programme content is aimed to enhance participants to be a transformed leader with the necessary skills to lead others by example both at workplace and at home. Dr. Samuel N.J. David, Sr. Manager and Head, Department of Hospital Management Studies and Staff Training and Development welcomed the participants and insisted on the need for servant leadership in the healing ministry of Christ and inspired them to be a role model in their workplace and create a positive impact.
