Mrs. Christy Simpson, Professor and Head of Obstetrics and Dr. Susanne A. Pulimood and Staff Gynaecology Nursing Department, College of Nursing retired on Mrs. Anbu S. Kumar and Staff May 15, 2014 after 37 years of dedicated services to the institution. She is an alumnus of the Diploma Nursing batch of 1973, Dental and Oral Surgery : Dr. Rabin K. Chacko and Staff Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing batch of 1981 and MSc Nursing batch Dr. Santosh Koshy and Staff of 1988.

Mrs. Christy hails from a devout Christian family, the youngest of four children, in Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu. On completion of her GNM in 1977, she started her career as a staff nurse in the labour room in Obstetrics and Gynaecology Nursing Department and continued to pursue her studies and became the Ward In charge of labour room in 1983. After her completion of M.Sc. in Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing Specialty she joined the College of Nursing as Junior Lecturer and rose up to become the Professor and Head of the department. Currently she is awaiting her Viva for Ph.D in Nursing under The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai. Mrs. Christy has the reputation of an excellent teacher and mentor. As a midwife her skills were commendable and she was very passionate about care for pregnant women. She always expected her staff to provide the same high quality care. Over the years, she has lovingly mentored both undergraduate and post graduate students. She strongly believed that a teacher’s role was not merely to impart knowledge, but rather to equip students with skills and values for life. Her students loved her. She was honoured with the best teacher award in 2012 by the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai.

She was a God fearing person demonstrating her faith in life. Being optimistic, she always did her best to instill positive Christian Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved attitudes to her colleagues, staff and students. She was very active members of the families at this time of grief and loss.

As an administrator, Mrs. Christy, brought her brilliance, integrity and quiet commitment to the many responsibilities she commendably shouldered. She has been faithful in leading the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with grace, humility and integrity, demonstrating true Christian living. Her many accomplishments as an administrator in all her responsibilities were for her service rather than success. She has donned various professional roles during her nursing career. She had been President & Secretary, Nurses League, CMAI (local unit), President, TNAI (local unit), Senior Advisor, SNA(local unit) & Secretary, Society of Midwives(local unit). She had been instrumental in organizing many Obstetrics and Gynaecology workshops for nurses. She had been actively involved in organizing and celebrating World Breast Feeding Day, National Safe Motherhood day and New born week to sensitize the public. Honouring her enthusiasm and spirit in the celebration of Motherhood, she was conferred Gold medal for Breast feeding Awareness by World Alliance for breast Feeding Action (WAFA), Malaysia in 2008. She is married to Dr. Simpson, who retired as a special education teacher for children with intellectual disabilities from our institution. They have two children, Oliver her son and daughter Hannah who are married and settled in Chennai. Mrs. Christy Simpson very capably balanced work, home and family. As she retires, Mrs. Christy, will be remembered as someone who upheld the ethos of the institution, with a thoughtful word, helping hand and a friendly smile. The CMC community, thanks Mrs. Christy Simpson, for her many years of faithful, dedicated and sincere services to the institution and wishes her God’s riches blessings as she enters a new phase of life. TNAI LLOC OC AL UNIT - CELEBRA TED INTERNA TIONAL NURSES D AY OCAL CELEBRATED INTERNATIONAL DA The International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world on May 12th, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. The International Nurses Day theme for 2014 is Nurses: a Force for Change – a Vital Resource for Health. The local unit of The Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI), CMC Vellore celebrated Nurses day on May 10, 2014 at Norman Auditorium. Various activities and competitions such as essay on the theme, symposium, quiz, floor and flower decoration and sports events were organized for nurses which brought forth their innate interests and talents. The TNAI local unit also took pride in honouring Dr. Punitha Ezhilarasu, the recipient of the prestigious National Florence Nightingale Award 2014. Dr. Punitha Ezhilarasu, the Professor & Head of Surgical Nursing and Continuing Nursing Education Department of CMC Vellore was bestowed this award, in honour of her outstanding contribution towards improving the standard of nursing education & evidence based practice. The Nurses day theme was introduced by Dr. Jayarani Premkumar, the TNAI Local Unit President and the Nursing Superintendent of CMC, Vellore. She emphasized the vital role played by the nurses and challenged them to set their focus on enhancing and enlarging their vitality in the health care industry, following the footsteps of Ms. Florence Nightingale, the forerunner of modern nursing. Mrs. Rosaline Jayakaran, former Dean College of Nursing, CMC, Vellore delivered the Chief Guest address and also honoured the winners of the various competitions. Ms. Sagayamariya Augustine Thangam, Multipurpose Health Worker of Paediatric Nursing Department was awarded the best MPHW for the year. Dr. Vathsala Sadan, Professor and Additional Deputy Dean, College of Nursing felicitated the members. The programme was well attended and appreciated by a large number of Staff Nurses and nurse leaders. The celebration came to an end with vote of thanks by Mrs. Diana David, TNAI Local Unit Vice President.
RETIREMENT Mrs. Mala Krishnamoorthy, Senior Secretary, General Superintendent Office retired on May 15, 2014 after 30 years of service to the institution. Her knowledge and memory of matters relating to Administrative Committee was par excellence and the administration thanks her for her committed service to this institution. Her only daughter, Ms. Priyadharshini is working as System Engineer in Infosys. CMC thanks her for her dedicated service and wishes her a happy and blessed retired life.
