CHANGED JOE PALUMBO’S LIFE

Banging on the drums on the football field, surrounded by hundreds of other young musicians, local professional musician Joe Palumbo found home.

Music camps taught Palumbo the discipline to understand how important drum rudiments were.

“Music saved my life. If it wasn’t for music, I probably would have been one of those kids who got into a little more mischief than I should have,” said Palumbo, who has more than 30 years experience playing professionally throughout the country, including CBGB’s.

Howlocalkids theirpassion

A new wave of young entrepreneurs is making a remarkable impact on the community.

Young trailblazers, aged 7-17, are gaining invaluable life skills, boosting their confidence, and building a network of friends through their participation in the Vegas Kids Zone (VKZ) Kidpreneur Market and the monthly workshops in the VKZ Kidpreneur Club.

The Rise of Young Entrepreneurs

The VKZ Kidpreneur Market is a monthly event that brings together young business owners, providing them with a platform to showcase their products and services.

These markets are colorful, fun, and bustling with creativity. From handmade crafts to innovative tech gadgets, the young entrepreneurs offer a diverse array of products, demonstrating their entrepreneurial spirit and creativity.

“Watching my child gain confidence and friends has been the best part of her journey as a kdipreneur so far,”

experience teaches them resilience, problem-solving, and the importance of hard work and perseverance.

Community Matters

Many kidpreneurs start out to earn funds and skills. The experience has increased their empathy for local kids in need. Most give back to the community in some way, from donating funds to products and their time at local non-profits. vegaskidszone com

Meet the Aviators

GM, Chuck Johnson

I had an opportunity to sit down with Charles Johnson to discuss the Aviators, the Las Vegas Ballpark and how they fit into the local community . Charles Johnson, who goes by Chuck, is the GM and Vice President of Sales for the Aviators and has been in this role since 2011 but has been with the organization for 29 years total.

Chuck has worked in the sporting industry for a very long time, starting his career with managing a sports book in the Reno casino industry.

He has also worked with the Las Vegas Gladiators Arena Football team, the Professional Bull Riders, the Las Vegas 51s, and Las Vegas Thunder Hockey.

Chuck was really excited to share all the things that were incorporated into the Las Vegas Ballpark to level up the fan experience

“When we built this ballpark in 2019, we got a chance to completely redesign, what the fan experience would be from the previous location Cashman Field,” he said.

The enhancements at the Las Vegas Ballpark include an indoor climatecontrolled club, a 360-degree concourse that runs around the entire field so that fans can walk around, better food options, a swimming pool, breathable seating to accommodate the Las Vegas climate, and the largest score board in minor league baseball.

Day in the Life Of A Race Car Driver

It’s a warm and sunny morning. The roar of engines fills the air as cars zoom around the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. After months of preparing, the driver is eager for his turn and determined to win, yearning to show the crowd his skills behind the wheel. It’s another day in the life of local pro race car driver, Jason Reichert.

“I always believed I was going to be a race car driver and never had a plan B,” said Reichert, owner of JR Motorsports.

Prep for a race begins seven days in advance. “Not only getting ready physically, but mentally. Making sure I am prepared puts me at ease and lets me just race when the green flag drops,” said Reichert, a third-generation local race car driver.

On race day, Reichert wakes while moonlight is still illuminating the sky to meet with his highly trained team.

“We try to make the race day boring, meaning we have prepared so well that the day is uneventful until it is time to get in the car,” Reichert said “I like to get in the car early, and just relax and get in a good mental state. Once it is time to drive on track, it is go time.”

Racing is an exhilarating, yet demanding sport. “My life is exciting, and a lot of work,” Reichert said. “My favorite part of racing is the competition and the thrill of driving a race car to its limits.”

WHY SPENDING 20 MIN A DAY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

DRAMATICALLY IMPROVE YOUR CHILD’S FINANCIAL LITERACY.

Investing just 20 minutes a day in a financial course can yield significant benefits for your child's burgeoning small business.

1

For just 1 week, spend 20 min a day

It equips them with essential financial literacy.

Understanding the basics of budgeting, cash flow management, and financial planning can be the difference between success and failure in a small business. These fundamental skills help in making informed decisions and ensuring that the business can sustain itself and grow over time.

Spending a short, consistent amount of time each day fosters a habit of continuous learning and improvement.

2 This incremental yet consistent approach is less overwhelming and more manageable, especially for young entrepreneurs. It encourages them to stay up-to-date with financial trends, economic shifts, and new tools that can make managing their business finances easier and more efficient. This habit of lifelong learning can instill a sense of discipline and adaptability, crucial traits for any successful business owner.

This financial course can provide valuable

networking opportunities and resources. This course is designed by experienced professionals who can offer mentorship, practical advice. These connections can provide support, inspiration, and practical help, significantly enhancing the business's chances of success.

Dedicating just 20 minutes a day to this financial course can dramatically improve your child's financial literacy, foster a habit of continuous learning, and open doors to valuable resources and networks, all of which are critical for the sustainable growth of their small business.

RESTAURANT REVIEW

Milpa is an up-and-coming restaurant that serves food that is culturally known as Mexican food but is really pushing the envelope of what that truly means. Actually, up and coming may not be accurate, it’s fair to say that Milpa has arrived. It ranks #22 on Yelp’s list of top 100 places to eat in 2024 and #7 on Yelp’s list of best taco spots. Owner and Chef Dj Flores is nominated for the James Beard Best Chef of the Southwest award

Chef Dj Flores is born and raised in Las Vegas with family roots from a small ranch style city in Mexico. His parents moved to Las Vegas in the ‘70s looking for a better life for themselves and their children. Growing up in a home where cooking was happening all day every day, Dj began working in restaurants at the age of 16. Dj did not attend formal culinary school and grew his skills by working in various kitchens under esteemed Chefs such as Jose’ Andres. He continues to grow his mastery by visiting restaurants all over the world, seeking other chefs looking to innovate new

dishes with healthy ingredients like himself

The concept for Milpa was born during the pandemic, as Dj and his fiancée set intentions to eat healthier and wanted to provide healthier options for others as well. Taking the dishes from his childhood, his many years of culinary experience, and his recent dietary adjustments, Dj set out to create a menu that reminded him of home and also included fresh, healthy dishes that appeal to all diet types.

Whatdo youdo when you want a tasty treatbut summer weatherhas you feelinglike a rotisserie chickenin your ownhome?

You definitely don’t want to turn on the oven! That’s when your air fryer comes to the rescue. You can whip up a batch of these chocolate peanut butter cookies in a matter of minutes without heating up your kitchen! These softbaked cookies are perfect topped with ice cream while they are still warm.

Directions

Ingredients

¼ cup cassava flour (I prefer Otto’s brand)

½ tsp baking powder

1 small pinch salt

¼ cup peanut butter (or other seed/nut butter)

2 tbsp brown sugar

1 tbsp granulated sugar

2 tbsp milk (regular or dairyfree)

1 tsp vanilla extract

3 tbsp dark chocolate chips

In a small bowl stir together your flour, baking powder, and salt. Set it aside.

In a mixing bowl stir together the peanut butter, both sugars, the milk, and the vanilla extract.

Preheat the oven to 350° F on air fry mode.

Add your flour mix to the mixing bowl and stir together, then stir in the chocolate chips. You may need to finish bringing it together with your hands. Set the dough aside to rest for 2-3 minutes while your air fryer preheats.

Divide your dough into four balls then flatten each ball into a disc about 3 inches across.

Carefully line your air fryer basket with parchment paper and place the cookie dough on the paper. Bake the cookies for 4 minutes and allow to cool for 1-2 minutes before moving with a spatula to enjoy.
