animal network feels the love
There were 346 cats and dogs adopted from the rescue in 2023! While they are all so wonderful, a few people and animals deserve some special LOVE!
A FAIRYTALE FOR PRINCESS There is a home for every dog. Some just take longer and are more challenging to find than others. Animal Network took in a senior dog that was abandoned at a park. She was chipped but the owner would not return calls. Princess is old and has some big health issues, the biggest being kidney disease which does come with side effects, mainly incontinence. The volunteers at Animal Network knew it would be challenging to find her a home.
After six months in rescue Dion found Princess. From Dion’s first phone call about Princess to her leaving with Dion was a mere 4 hours! Dion is a shining beacon of light for senior pups. She’s fully aware of the short amount of time they have left, but she goes above and beyond to ensure their last days are their best. It brings her much joy and the pups live a final joyous chapter. FOSTERING SAVES LIVES
Rescues live and die by their fosters. It’s such an important part of the process. One of our fosters has been with us since July 2012, almost 12 years! Kristanne has fostered and adopted over 435 pups for us through the years! That’s 36 a year! Or 3 a month! Her time, patience, and love transforms dogs into happy, healthy, adoptable pets. She is a master at her craft, taking care of animals.
VOLUNTEER‘S TIME CHANGES LIVES
Every once in a tenacious volunteer digs in hard and goes above and beyond to get the long-timers adopted. Longtimers are pups that keep getting looked over for one reason or another. Karla is one of those volunteers. She is an amazing human that focuses on one dog at a time until they get adopted. She takes them on special outings and takes them home overnight. GO BULLDOGS! From personal tragedy to true triumph with an inspiring team. On Jan. 3, the city of Las Vegas recognized the Centennial High School football team and Bulldogs Coach DJ Campbell. The longtime local coached the team to a historic milestone in their recent season, winning their firstever state football championship. Campbell, a star at Cheyenne High School who went on to play for the University of California, Berkeley, and then the NFL, tragically lost his mother in 1996. His fiery spirit and natural leadership, he has said, he gets from her.
GAELS GET THEIR DAY The Mayor and City Council named Jan. 16 Bishop Gorman High School Varsity Football Team Day. Home of the Gaels, the team proudly accepted the honor they received for their hard work this season that was recognized around the country. The Gaels were declared National Champions by ESPN, USA Today, and Fox Sports. The team finished the season with an impressive 12-0 record with wins against nationally ranked teams.

New Park in NW A new local favorite place
It took eons to create, or so it felt for many locals who couldn’t wait for the latest state park to open. Take a step back in time while exploring the Ice Age Fossils State Park in North Las Vegas! Councilwoman Nancy Brune is excited that this park, “is just steps away from Ward 6, (and) will offer valuable opportunities for environmental education and recreational activities, while preserving our community's early history.” The newly opened Ice Age Fossils State Park is 315 acres and showcases Tule Springs’ collection of Pleistocene fossils. What locals love about the new park, according to the many pics and videos on social media, are the easy hiking trails that lead to prehistoric fossil beds and archaeological dig sites and art sculptures scattered throughout the desert park. The modern visitor center has interactive natural history exhibits and a gift shop. What: Ice Age Fossils State Park When: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tickets: $3, and children under 12 are free. Dogs are allowed on a leash. Mountain bikes, motorized vehicles like OHVs and UTVs, and camping/campfires are prohibited. www.vegaskidszone.com

SHARE, CARE & BE THERE Andy and Linzy Stahl have built a home and community with their dogs, chickens, and tortoises and countless volunteer activities. They have shared their free range eggs with hundreds of neighbors as well as their time, talent, and treasure with dozens of organizations in Vegas including Olive Crest, Canyon Ridge Christian Church, Hoving Home, Gilcrease Orchard, and the Blind Center. Andy operates his own small business, Raintree, a probate and residential specific real estate brokerage.
ALL THAT, AND MORE! Corey and Jacqueline Sierra have poured their heart into their business and their community in many ways every day. The couple recently opened 𝑨𝒍𝒍 𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝑨 𝑳𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆 𝐌𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐭, a fast-growing business. Corey, who works as a Fire Prevention Officer at the Marine Base in Barstow, founded the Silver Valley Fire Alliance, a nonprofit that supports volunteer fire departments in rural areas. Jackie serves as Vice President of the Ladies of Las Vegas organization.

I am Francis Allen-Palenske and I am the Councilwoman for beautiful Ward 4 which is the NW part of Las Vegas. It's the most unique place in Las Vegas to live with both horse farms and large land living. Our special part of Las Vegas feels like you've been transported into an area that's a little slower, and patient, with a relaxed way of life. People wave as you pass by and the sound of horses neighing can be heard on a quiet morning. Our way of life is a rural one, with all the conveniences of major shopping and an international destination like the Las Vegas Strip at our fingertips. We've got amazing parks, hiking trails, and the best dog park in ALL of Las Vegas at Barkin' Basin inside Wayne Bunker Park. VIPKids Indoor Play & More is one of the newest businesses in Ward 4. They have a gorgeous facility that caters to kids of all ages. There is karaoke, and video games with new consoles for Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch.

We also have a new Mexican restaurant that just opened called Casa Real which just opened! They promise to deliver authentic Mexican food with a fresh spin on classic dishes people love. I haven't visited this place yet, but intend to take my family very soon! For future endeavors, Ward 4 will soon welcome a new police substation in the area of the Providence community. This additional police substation will deliver public safety resources right into the area of our rapidly growing community of competitively priced homes. I am excited to welcome a new police substation coming to fruition within the first year of my serving as your Councilwoman. I love Las Vegas and the people I share it with! It’s been 5 years since we had our first resource fair, which I started on a whim when we realized there were more questions than answers from locals asking for recommendations on everything from pediatricians to sports programs, to microschools and how to get started homeschooling in Las Vegas. I get asked a lot about ways for parents to connect, too, which is why I wanted to make this a regular inperson resource with our signature Friendship Table .
