“Family Feud” as therapy
A social worker changed her life. Now this local mom is on a mission to be that voice for children in care.

I spent the first half of my childhood in foster care alongside my siblings, sometimes together, sometimes separated.
Those experiences shaped who I am today. While there were challenges, I was fortunate to have an incredible social worker who truly advocated for me. She made me feel seen, heard, and supported during a time when stability was uncertain.
Her name was Diane Waymire, and though I've tried to find her over the years, I haven't been able to reconnect. I've never forgotten her, and I carry the impact she made on my life with me every day.
Today, I am a mother to two teenagers and newborn twin boys. After losing my husband to COVID, I made the difficult decision to leave my job of 15 years and start my own business.
I now help small businesses build from the ground up, assisting with LLC formations, bookkeeping, payroll, taxes, and more with My Agent LV services. I also founded and manage a Las Vegas-based Facebook group that supports and connects women in business. I'm passionate about helping others become their own bosses and create independence for themselves and their families.
I'm currently beginning my journey into real estate as well, continuing to expand the ways I can serve others.
Above all, I pride myself on being a strong, present mother and raising my children to be respectful, humble, and kind.
Now, I feel called to give back in a meaningful way.
While I'm not yet ready to become a foster parent, I am pursuing becoming a CASA advocate.
I want to be the voice and support for children in foster care, just as my social worker once was for me.
If I can make even a small difference in one child's life, it will be worth it My hope is to honor the impact Diane had on me by paying it forward to as many children as I can.

Fostering has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It stretches the heart, reshapes priorities, and reveals resilience in its truest form It also opens your eyes to the spaces where support feels… underwhelming.
These kids live in two worlds at once.
In one, they are simply kids. They are making friends, trying new things, laughing, growing. In the other, there is a constant awareness of their surroundings, the people and the bonds they are hoping to form.
Something feels different. Conversations can pause Adults can grow overly careful.

Many foster parents say the same thing: they didn’t feel “ready,” but they felt called. If that’s where you are, the next step isn’t to have all the answers. It’s just to start the conversation.
While specifics vary slightly by state, most foster parents in Nevada can expect to meet these general requirements:
Be at least 21 years old Pass background and fingerprint checks
Have a stable income (not necessarily wealthy, just consistent)
Provide a safe living environment (you don’t need a mansion just appropriate space) Complete required training and a home study
You don’t have to be married, own a home, or already be a parent. Single adults, renters, and firsttime caregivers are all welcome
The process may sound intimidating at first, but it’s designed to support you along the way.
1 Attend an Orientation: This is your chance to ask questions, hear real stories, and decide if fostering feels right for your family.
2.Submit an Application: Basic personal information, references, and background checks are part of this stage.
3.Complete Training: Training programs help prepare you for real-life scenarios everything from trauma-informed care to navigating school systems.
4 Home Study: A caseworker visits your home, not to judge, but to make sure it’s safe and to get to know you better.
5.Get Licensed and Matched: Once approved, you’ll be matched with a child based on your preferences, experience, and availability.
Foster parents receive a monthly stipend to help cover the child’s needs, along with access to medical care through Medicaid for the child. But beyond financial support, the real backbone is community caseworkers, therapists, other foster parents, and organizations that step in when things get tough.

A new Las Vegas collaboration is turning up the volume on comfort food...this time with a soundtrack
Pop icon Tiffany Darwish and local chef Alicia Shevetone debut “Pop Life” this month, a cookbook that blends nostalgic favorites with a modern edge. It’s part recipe collection, part storytelling experience, and entirely rooted in connection.
Shevetone, known for her fresh, ingredient-driven approach, brings culinary depth to the project Tiffany brings perspective shaped by years on tour and a genuine love of food. Together, they’ve created something that reads more like a playlist than a cookbook, with each chapter unfolding like a setlist of flavors, memories, and global influences.
The partnership came together naturally A mutual friend introduced them, and the connection was immediate.
“We were quick buddies,” Tiffany said. “I’m a newbie in the food world and just open to everything When I first met Alicia, she spoke from the heart, and I just was impressed. She knew I didn’t have any proper training but that I have a passion for learning and cooking. She gave me so much encouragement, and here we are doing a cookbook It’s a dream come true for me.”
That spirit carries into the purpose behind the book.
“We don’t want ‘Pop Life’ to be just another cookbook on the shelf,” Shevetone, owner of Dink Cuisine, said. “We want it to be tattered and used from cooking for parties and family dinners.”
The debut arrives May 12 with a launch party in the Las Vegas Arts District, beginning with a VIP reception at Petite Bohème and continuing next door at Bar Bohème, the French bistro from James Trees.
Guests will sample appetizers inspired by the cookbook, meet Tiffany and Chef Shevetone, and step into a night that feels equal parts book launch and retro celebration. With an ’80s soundtrack and a menu designed to bring the pages of “Pop Life” to life, the evening reflects exactly what the cookbook promises: food that’s meant to be shared, remembered, and enjoyed together.
