Support Local As the original cannabis resource for Northern Nevada, it has been a privilege to grow alongside the industry. We provided medical cannabis cards to patients even before we had brick and mortar dispensaries. We watched as our medical dispensaries were granted licensing. And, we advocated for and watched as Nevada became an adult-use state. Tahoe Cannabis Magazine sat down with Paul Schloss, President/ CEO of Redwood Cultivation and Mesa Oils to find out what got him into the cannabis business, what innovations his team has introduced to the industry and if he really thinks that Mike Tyson spends $40,000.00 a month on cannabis… Tahoe Cannabis Magazine: What brought you to Nevada and where are you from, originally? Paul Schloss: I grew up in Alaska and called it home for 20 years. I graduated from Washington State University and hold a degree in Business Marketing. What really brought me here was a business opportunity in the food service industry- someone offered me a position in the bagel business. That took me from Alaska down to Vegas, via Texas. I ended up buying out that company (Brooklyn Bagels) from the Greenspun family. I started “Getting Legal” around 2013, and that gave me the opportunity to start talking with influencers and business contacts who were (at that time) talking about cannabis. They were watching the industry, and medical cannabis had been legal since the year 2000 for patients, but then they started talking about opening dispensaries. I was like, “what are you talking about?!” I mean, I knew it would be awesome, but at that time, I wasn’t seeing that trend anywhere yet. So, I started thinking about how to make medical cards more accessible to people and less expensive, and that’s how the idea of “Getting Legal” came about. One loophole that I spotted was that Nevada became a “reciprocity” state… meaning, you could be a California patient and use your card here in Nevada within (at first) a 24-hour time period after approval. Eventually, we got it down to one day, and then about 15 minutes. So that was a huge advantage for “Getting Legal” to cater to cannabis patients in and out of Nevada.

In 2012, I was invited to partner into a successful existing dispensary in Seattle with my college buddy. Here in Nevada, I came into the group (Redwood) after they had already acquired their licensing, but I was an asset as I had forged all of these industry connections and done a lot of the hard work- so I had more to bring to the table. I got very lucky on the cultivation side. I owe a lot of gratitude to Harris Rittoff, Sam Cherry and the Partners for having the trust in me to build Redwood into the success we have become.

TCM: Did that experience lead you to the acquisition of your cultivation license? Were you always a cannabis advocate? Paul: I’ve been smoking since I was 14 in Alaska where it was legal until 1984, then banned and now legal again for the past few years. In the early 90’s I tried growing and failed miserably- put 25 plants on the roof of my condo in Seattle and caught the attention of neighbors and when I moved them inside, I only caught the attention of insects. 2006 - 2014 I was brought under the wings of some very skilled cultivators and I helped relocate from multiple houses to large-scale warehouse operations. I use the skills I learned from them to this day, in our current operations. During those times I had a few brushes

TCM: Talk a little bit about Redwood and your team members. Paul: My staff is incredible- they make things happen. I could never give them enough credit. After I joined the Redwood team, my first order of business was to hire Mike Tsairis to lead our Grow team.

THE LATEST Mike started with the company in February 2017 and currently serves as Vice President. I met Mike through “Getting Legal” when someone in our office made a mistake on his card and I got involved to rectify the issue. At that time, I learned Mike just moved out to Las Vegas with exceptional cultivation experience and I looked forward to working with him when the right opportunity arose. I’ve really been lucky with the team we have built, like Lindsey Duesler (Director of Operations) who is involved in all aspects of the company. Robert Flores (Sales manager), Jake Casteel (Packaging Manager). and Brooke Igert (office manager). We rely on these key employees every day, 24/7- an awesome team of people. The Grow team, they make us into heroes. They are always looking for new phenos, new strains, and they give the brands their own identities that way. When I sign a brand, we bring the growers in and really try to give each brand their own personal spin with strains specific to them. An example would be the Jimi Hendrix brand, we brought in Purple Haze and Foxy Lady (strains) just for them. With Mike Tyson, we already had Sour Diesel out there, but Mike’s favorite strain is Sour Diesel so we gave it to Mike, exclusively. Our growers really take ownership and pride in matching up appropriate strains with brands and then cultivating those ideas.

TCM: Tell us a little bit about your facility, I know you’ve got some cool systems in place there… Paul: Absolutely. Our Grow team is fairly small, we have three main growers: Chris Lingatong, Jeff Greiner and Ryan Yusico that are assisted by a few part-timers when it’s time for defoliation or special projects. We operate with Zwart Systems fertigation equipment (indoor) that’s run by Argus controls, we were one of the first cultivation groups in Nevada to introduce it. It makes this such an automated system that it allows our growers to focus their attention completely on the plants, as it should be. So instead of worrying about hand-watering, we have our system in place that tends to those types of tasks to free up our growers to only concentrate on the plants. For our air-conditioning, we use natural gas. It’s green, environmentally friendly, and technology friendly. The cost upfront wasn’t cheap, but it saves a huge amount of money every month. Our monthly bills stay the same all year. Consequently, Southwest Gas treats us like royalty! (laughs) They bring people in for tours all the time and show off our facility. We’re probably one of the only cultivators that the gas company has treated to perks like hockey games or bull-riding events in their VIP boxes! working relationship. Another unique thing about our facility is that we’re on well water. We save quite a bit of money on our water. Our team knew when we first started that the prices would drop and eventually with competition, we could ensure that our prices would say in line, from the beginning. We can keep our expenses pretty low that way TCM: If you can expand a bit more on what makes Redwood function at its best and who is important to that process… Paul: The most important people in my industry are the budtenders who are the biggest influencers as far as marketing. I can put a lot of money and effort into marketing, but the budtenders have the most personal influence over the customer. It’s like, the budtender can say to the customer “yea, that product you’re getting is great, but I also have this…” and show a new product or a great product to a customer who might not have otherwise known about it. That kind of personal

marketing is so important. TCM: Let’s get into branding a little bit. Talk about national brands, and if you can, elaborate on Mike Tyson’s brand, in particular Paul: Mike is 100% involved. I remember the first time I heard about Tyson Ranch launching a few years ago, I wondered if Mike really smoked. After spending time with Mike I learned firsthand that he has been for years using it medicinally. They are an amazing group with the most talented team members on it. Mike knows good weed and is involved more than any other brand out there in the world. They just launched a CBD line that is incredible. The copper gel pain spray - it freakin’ works! Working with his brand has been our first real glimpse at Mike Tyson the cannabis entrepreneur, not necessarily Tyson, the fighter. There have been so many phases of Tyson’s career over the years, this is just a really unique way of looking at him. I mean, we all know him from these different things and pop culture

references, but ultimately the family invested into the cannabis industry and started up Tyson Ranch. He’s doing a podcast now… he’s really settling into this new version of himself and he’s very procannabis. TCM: Right, we all read a few weeks ago the rumors about Tyson consuming $40,000 a month in cannabis… Paul: You know what? It’s totally true! (laughs) Mike and his team are the real deal. In my opinion the Tyson Ranch team uses cannabis products everyday, and they know the difference between what’s quality and what’s not. Mike’s favorite strain is our Sour Diesel, which is available in many of the stores, currently. TCM: What about some of Redwood’s other national brands? Reserve. We threw an epic launch party that was attended by Willie Nelson himself. Sales were great but we unfortunately separated a year-and-a-half later because of the lack of cannabis culture we felt the group running the brand was missing. We sure are still big fans of Willie himself, he is a music icon and understands the culture, himself. Our house brands, Stacked Deck, Redwood Trees, Pink Leaf and Nitrostx were created right away by the amazing and talented brand developer Eric Weiss of E3 Design Group. I’ve worked and developed at least 15-20 brands with Eric over the last 15 years. We talk daily and will always work together. Eric now works with our celebrity brands as a consultant. He is our secret weapon in marketing. Cheech’s Stash (run by the family of legendary stoner Cheech Marin) has been excellent to work with. They are young, energetic and enthusiastic. Cheech has made himself very accessible to our dispensaries with numerous appearances at Nuwu, Reef, Inyo and many more. Always willing to accommodate however he can. We have had a few private industry events for budtenders to get to know him intimately. I was listening to Cheech and Chong records well over 45 years ago. Holy shit, I’m old! I can remember listening to the records with my brother and not understanding all the jokes but still laughing. Cheech was my first experience in hearing the word “marijuana”. I first met Dizzy Wright at a Vegas Cannabis

Magazine event but loved his music since I first heard his song, “Can’t Trust ‘Em”. It’s simply a pleasure to work with him as he really is the nicest man in the music industry and brings his positive vibes to Redwood. Our Jimi Hendrix brand has a family connection. My father actually went to high school with Jimi Hendrix at Garfield High School in Seattle. I made a reconnection with the Hendrix group, including his brother Leon Hendrix, while owning my bagel shops back in 2003 when they were trying to launch a different Hendrix product. We knew then we’d be launching a Hendrix cannabis brand somewhere, someday. We launched the brand earlier this year and it has been ultra-successful. The same group has introduced me to the Peter Tosh family entrusting us to launch their cannabis brand in the U.S. TCM: Talk a little bit about what’s coming down the pike for Redwood… Paul: We have become the Nevada distributor for the Tyson Ranch CBD line which includes DWiink, gummies, tinctures, pain relief sprays and creams. Other than that, you never know! Each day is a new opportunity to grow- literally and figuratively. I’m just glad to be a part of the journey.

Opie Ortiz of Long Beach Dub Allstars On Japanese Imprisonment, The Art of Tattooing and the Human Spirit

Opie Ortiz is a highly acclaimed performer and artist, widely known for his art featured on Sublime album covers. Ortiz has designed tattoos (one of his most famous pieces having appeared across Bradley Nowell’s back) pop art and has even been commissioned to design murals. Also known for being the lead singer of the Long Beach Dub Allstars, Ortiz was recently arrested, incarcerated, and detained in Japan for cannabis possession. Tahoe Cannabis Magazine checked in with him to find out what happened, and what he’s been up to since returning home. Tahoe Cannabis Magazine: Let’s just get right into it- what exactly happened to you recently in Japan? Opie Ortiz: LBDA had planned a Japanese and European tour for the promotion of our album, which was already supposed to be out. It had taken a little longer than we had expected, but we were just going to go ahead with the tour anyway and play new music and get our fanbase going again that we’d had like 18-20 years ago. We launched the tour and were in Shibuya…we have a pretty huge fanbase there…I had acquired some stuff from a fan or someone, I don’t even recall where I got it, but it was in my backpack. The show went well, and then I separated from the band and went off with a few friends, and we went to a bar down the street. We walked outside and the police were there…I always say, ‘I took like 10 steps and the police were right there’…asking to search me. Later on, my friend confirmed that he thought there was undercover involvement with the bar. I mean, we did kind of stand out- I don’t look Japanese at all, my friend is a pretty wild tattoo guy, so the police just looked at us like, what are you guys doing? They ended up searching me and finding some herb on me and that’s what started this whole thing TCM: That’s insane! Especially in comparison to the U.S. and the culture that we’re living in now. So, did this lead to an arrest? Explain what happened after that incident took place…

Opie: Yeah, they arrested me, and started going through all the phases of all the questioning and all that…they were interrogating me every week. They would do interrogation, and I basically told them the same story over and over again; I think they thought I was going to break or something. On the inside, it’s a deprivation thing- there’s no talking, no TV, there’s no English…they don’t want you to speak English in prison, they would say “you speak Japanese now!” The stress of not knowing the language, the laws, how to get a lawyer, how to talk to my family… it got so stressful. But truly, it never broke my spirit. In my cell there was a guy who went to school in San Francisco for architecture and he was a well-known artist and teacher, and he was in for basically the same thing- he owned a bar, and they came and found a gram of weed or whatever, so they

arrested everybody. We would talk to each other about music and life and art and we became really good friends, so he was kind of watching out for me, you know? TCM: It probably felt like any kind of familiarity in your situation to anyone whom you could connect with was extremely vital, just to keep your sanity… Opie: I was thinking back later, if I hadn’t had him there, it would have been extreme torture, not being able to communicate. We kept reassuring ourselves, and each other to keep positive and it’ll be over soon. Also my lawyer was super cool and he was fighting a few big cases, so it showed me that he was a good fighter. He told me that his wife really liked Sublime and LBDA so that was a glimmer of hope. I kept asking my lawyer how long I was going to be there, and he would say “maybe 3 months, maybe 6 months”…and I was going over in my mind like, how am I going to take care of my family at home? I need to get a hold of someone to make sure that my wife and kids were ok. To be honest, I think I just got lucky. The Japanese fans were looking out for me, a lot of people were praying for me. In the end, my case just got thrown out and they dropped all the charges. TCM: The Sublime song, “Doin’ Time” comes to mind… “on lockdown like a penitentiary” … Opie: (laughs) Yea…there was no communication the whole time with my wife and kids and all. After I was released, I talked to my lawyer and I said to him that he should look into fighting this marijuana thing, because these Japanese laws are so old, they’re so irrelevant anymore. I could have been looking at serious time, in all honesty. The situation really hurt everyone. It put a dent in my pocket for having to pay a lawyer, the band lost money because we had planned this whole tour that got canceled because I couldn’t be there. My family was in the same mindset that I was in- my wife manifested my release; I manifested my release. Lots of prayer. TCM: I guess at the end of the day, your perseverance, your family, your fans, your spirit really helped you get through all of it, even from a long distance, and that’s really incredible. Opie: I agree. I’d been through the system years ago in California. Jail is jail. But when you’re in another country, everything is different. Everything is unknown. In Japanese prison, they are non-violent, but they yell a lot. It becomes like a mental game, like a chess game. TCM: During your other travels and touring, have you ever encountered anything that comes close to what you experienced in Japan in regard to cannabis?

THE LATEST Opie: Back in the day, it was a fine or a misdemeanor. But nothing like what I dealt with in Japan. I definitely have a new perspective on all of this now, that’s for sure. As a band, we just finished touring, so we’re just doing some writing. We’ve got some local shows coming up, and “Roots on 66 Festival” on September 28. This is a good way to get the message out to our fans that we’re sorry about missing shows, but we’re looking forward to getting back out there again soon TCM: Aside from the music, do you still practice your artwork and tattooing? Opie: For sure, I do commissions, I do art for clothing companies and local bands, bands from afar. I’m always working on art. I’m working on my own clothing line, too. I’m also working on some new LBDA merch for our fans. TCM: If you think about it, it’s crazy that you went to jail for something that is basically considered to be normal in California and Nevada now… Opie: Overall, by allowing cannabis into the community and to be used recreationally, people are just going to be happier. More relaxed. Hopefully this cannabis acceptance will turn people onto alternatives with healing… instead of taking pain pills, smoking a big fattie just helps alleviate the pain all the more. Cannabis is a great option for a lot of issues. The pharmaceutical industry should definitely be worried because, cannabis is the future. TCM: It’s just so ironic that all that you guys have ever tried to do (and in the past, Sublime, with their music) was to be pro-cannabis and all that goes with that sentiment. Your audiences have always been receptive to that. Ultimately, you got in trouble for something that is so much a part of the LBDA story… Opie: At the worst times in jail, just worried about what was going to happen, when I was going to get out, what was going to happen to me. My friend told tell me, “Just think about the story later… and we’ll all be able to laugh”. I remember the day that I was released from prison, it was raining and I went to a little café and charged my phone. And honestly, through this whole thing I never really broke down, I never cried. But that first call I made was to my wife and I just lost it, crying uncontrollably just apologizing to her, and she was crying along with me. And she said, “I don’t care! Just get your ass home!” I flew home later that night. And you know what? My friend picked me up at the airport, and he said, “I told you we’d be able to laugh about this later!” and we just lost it driving down the road. It’s never a good time when you purchase a CBD product for top dollar, get it home, then find out it only contains hemp seed oil and no CBD at all. Due to the ever-changing laws and continuous debate on the legality of hemp, companies are cutting corners and the ones suffering are the consumers. For example, Amazon refuses to sell CBD products but has pages and pages of products made with hemp seed oil making the same claims as CBD. On the other hand, my neighbor purchased a bottle of “CBD Rich Drops” from the corner gas station and found the only ingredient to be MCT oil. So now I will break down the difference between CBD and hemp seed oil, so you never have to worry about buying the wrong products. Hemp comes from the Cannabis Sativa plant; the cousin of the cannabis plant. As with cannabis, hemp plants have different growth rates and carry different benefits. Hemp plants in their raw state look and can smell exactly like cannabis. In some cases, it is very difficult to distinguish between hemp plants and cannabis plants as they can produce buds that look and smell the same. Hemp is grown for both commercial and industrial uses throughout the world. In fact, some countries have grown hemp continuously. It is the oldest agricultural crop known, and hemp fiber is the most durable fiber in the natural fiber family. Hemp is easy to grow, does not require pesticides and can grow up to four times faster than other crops, making it an ideal source of biomass. The seeds of the hemp plant are just as important. We all know that seeds are beneficial, but the hemp seed has more than a few uses. There are low, moderate and high-density life cycles while the plant is in its growth state, so depending on when the crop is harvested, it can be more beneficial for high density seed oil or for high density fiber production. Let’s look at the three major oil distinctions to decipher what is what and which is best for you! Hemp Seed Oil – Contains zero CBD or THC. Seed oil is used

mainly in foods and beauty goods as it is high in Omega 3, 6 and in some cases 9. It is a natural, fast absorbing oil and is noncomedogenic, making it the perfect base for topical goods like lotions and shampoos. This oil is usually very thin, carries a strong smell (usually of almonds), and is very green in hue. This oil is not recommended for smoking or use in edibles as it carries no high and is rich in fats and omegas. CBD – CBD is the non-euphoric compound found in the hemp plant. The raw plant can carry more compounds like CBG and CBN but does not contain the same omegas that the seed oil produces. This form of CBD is popular in euphoric-free marketable goods and is known for its ability to ease aches and pains. CBD can be found in edibles, cartridges, or come in the form of distillate or isolate and is used for topical creams as well. Base Oil – Depending on the carrier oil used (i.e. almond, coconut, grapeseed) this oil will carry the same properties as CBD, as long as the raw plant material was sourced from hemp buds and not the stalks or stems. It is possible to add a raw hemp plant to any of these oils and extract over time. These are usually used for baked goods and food production. The biggest difference between these oils is that hemp seed oil is NOT CBD and CBD oils do not contain omegas. Before purchasing CBD related items, here are a few suggestions to get you started and to ensure you are getting the proper product. Before you shop: Decide what you need the oil for, whether it be for cooking, making a topical rub, or to ease pain. While you shop: Be sure to check the label and see if it states what type of CBD was used in production of the product. If it does not state, don’t be afraid to ask! If the seller doesn’t know, you may be better off shopping elsewhere, so you know what you are getting After you shop: Leave feedback for the store, website and product. The best way to determine if the product works is to read feedback. People tend to be brutally honest on those so it’s a great method of determining if a product is what you need. Remember, hemp seed oil contains omegas but does not contain CBD and CBD will NOT get you high. Ensure you know what you are getting when you purchase any oils, especially ones claiming they are CBD based.

Everything Begins Anew For many, the year begins anew in January. However, I have always seen back-to-school time as the real beginning of the year. Unlike many of my contemporaries, I really did not mind K-through-12 education. I mean, how can you not like any model that provides 3 months off over the summer? I was the traditional smart kid who didn't give a damn, which frustrated my teachers and my parents, but I had a pretty good time.

Increasingly, I have a difficult time understanding why anybody would want to go into the education profession anyways. Teachers are vilified by society, bankrupted by the government, and verbally assaulted by students and parents.

It should be noted, however, that I did not discover marijuana until the end of my high school career, literally six weeks before graduation. In retrospect, I think that was probably a good thing. As I had mentioned in a previous column, it does not look like the American educational system is the envy of the rest of the world any longer. We are seventh in literacy, 27th in math, but the “school-to-prison pipeline” is firmly in place, thank you. What the heck is so great about the American system of education? We have a Federal department of education, one that provides zero funding yet sets ridiculous, if not unattainable, goals. Sure, we will give you $50, but you have to spend $49.50 of it on the stuff that we tell you is important. Personally, I blame former President Jimmy Carter! Not only did he give away the Panama Canal, but he is also the president who created the Federal Department of Education. Obviously, getting the government involved in anything makes everything better, right? Do not get me started on the government and education, either (too late!). What happened to all of the marijuana money that was supposed to be funneled into schools here in Las Vegas and instead wound up in a rainy day slush fund? Tick Segerblom, Nevada state senator and Las Vegas Clark County Commissioner, was the one who guaranteed us that our schools would improve due to the influx of all that sweet, sweet marijuana money. We’re still waiting, aren’t we. Now it turns out that The Ticker is a vested partner in a Canadian marijuana business. Once again, we should just turn our heads and cough.

into an operating room and offering the surgeon there some advice (“Maybe you should respect that tumor a little more!”) but it happens to teachers that I know all of the time. It is not the child’s fault that he or she has no sleep and an empty stomach. It is all the schools fault! Sure, many parents believe that personal accountability is a phrase that applies to others, but it is easier to place blame than it is to accept it. However, these problems are neither specific nor unique to Nevada. Do you remember last spring when all of those school districts cross-country went on strike? Why do you suppose they did that? For that matter, it was even decided that this would be an option in Clark County, even though public employees are not allowed to strike due to collective bargaining or some other such nonsense. How tragic is it the teachers have to walk a picket line just to get what they need to do their jobs? The irony is that, like most other clusterfucks, there is no clear-cut resolution to the problems which public education is experiencing. Graduation rates are artificially-inflated by schools to give the appearance of effectiveness. Harsh reality: education follows money, or vice versa. If you live in an affluent area anywhere in this country, your education will be significantly better than those from areas where poverty is their primary financial condition. My hat is totally off to my friends who teach. I am always hearing about how rewarding teaching can be, but at what cost? However, there are always positive notes. One example: a teacher friend of my wife was recently buying equipment for her classroom at a local Target. She struck up a conversation with the woman in line behind her, and my wife's friend, named Emily (again, I respect no journalistic boundaries) told the lady that she was buying equipment for her classroom. When Emily got to the checkout, the lady insisted on paying for Emily's stuff, saying.”Teachers deserve a break!” Now, that almost made ME cry, let alone teacher-baby Emily; needless to say, teachers usually wear their hearts on their sleeves. So there you have it. It is likely not the citizens of the Silver State who do not want to support public education. Tragically yet predictably, it is the politicians, the moneygrubbing pigs who portray themselves as Champions for the Working Man who are dying to keep Nevada's populace as under-educated as possible. Prove me wrong.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF ANNIE KING GARAT

nnie King Garat hails from a military background, both in the U.S. and overseas. Her mother is Bavarian, and her grandfather served in the Austrian Army.

Each of these sexual assaults and rapes left deep wounds in the young soldier that would continue into her adult life, as a wife and mother of two children.

“My father was from West Virginia, and had very little options other than mining,” she explained. “Going into the military is common in that part of the country.”

Me Too & PTSD

Of her four brothers, two were in the military, with her second oldest in the German Army. Another became a Marine and was Garat’s inspiration to join. As the child of a soldier, Garat lived around the world, but was born at Fort Riley in Kansas. Always an athlete, she gave up a full scholarship and a career in basketball to join the military in an effort to escape her family and her young life’s past thus far. “I had already been raped twice by the time I was a teenager,” she shared. “The first time I was 11 years-old while we were stationed in Stuttgart – by some local boys, one of them was on my soccer team. The second time was by my stepfather, after years of grooming.”

While she was in the military, she was sexually assaulted, first by a Sergeant while in advanced training; then by a Command Sargent Major while on active duty in Okinawa.

According to an article in the Daily Beast (January 2019), via a poll, two-thirds of women in the U.S. military stated they had been sexually harassed or assaulted while serving. By comparison, a study commissioned in 2015 by the Defense Department reported that a mere 27 percent of women had endured abuse. “I could have dropped out, but I stayed in, and went on to California for more training,” she said. “I eventually became what they call a ‘chaser,’ we chase our own. We handcuff our own and take them to the brig. I became a boat rocker – I rocked the boat.” Cannabis, she said, was in her family’s culture and was not looked down on. By the time she was honorably discharged in 2005, she was on a plethora of prescription medications for emotional and physical disorders and ailments, as well as drinking alcohol. “They gave me a lot of pills – for lack of sleep, nightmares, tremors, night sweats,” she detailed. “I was suffering from PTSD, but they said I only had anxiety, not depression. I didn’t have a drinking problem. I drank socially, but my body couldn’t take the pills with the alcohol – and drinking alcohol is common in the military. It’s all they have that’s legal for self-medicating for PTSD. Add pills and it makes it worse.” According to the Mayo Clinic, PTSD is a mental health condition, triggered by a terrifying event. Symptoms include flashbacks, nightmares, and severe anxiety. Psychiatrist, Sue Sisley, just concluded the first triple-blind study on cannabis and help for Veterans with PTSD, with results due later this year. CEO and Founder of Veterans Cannabis Coalition, Eric Goepel, was quoted in an article in Forbes at the conclusion of Sisley’s study

as stating, ““Current research supports the potential efficacy of cannabis in dozens of different applications, all of which could have direct positive impacts on overall veteran health. Whether for pain relief, as a sleep aid, or for help in overcoming stress and anxiety, so many veterans find relief in cannabis because it provides an alternative way to manage their conditions far better than a slew of toxic pharmaceuticals.”

also smokes or vapes regularly as a top-off on dark days to deal with the depression that can be triggered via PTSD.

After accidentally overdosing on a prescribed pill regimen and a half a beer, Garat said she was ready to replace the Flexeril, Ambien, Zoloft, and Tylenol with Codeine with cannabis, after a psychiatrist’s suggestion.

In the evening she’ll enjoy a good soak in the tub with cannabis infused bath salts and a pre-roll with a favorite indica cultivar to decompress.

Keep the Pills, Pass the Pipe

She began by ingesting edibles, taking tinctures, vaping and burning flower, cold-turkey, with no negative side effects. “The only negative side effects were consequences from my doctors, and having to listen to their bullshit, because they didn’t understand that ingesting and smoking was dealing with the withdrawal symptoms,” she said.

“Lots of Vets get lost in the gaming zone,” she explained. “I’m in a group, we have our own competitive league. I enjoy meeting up. They don’t all use cannabis, but they aren’t against it. We don’t judge.”

“I pray to God as part of my healing protocol,” she offered. “I don’t belong to an organized church any longer because of the judging, but I’m not against going to church – we all have our path. My past and everything I’ve been through has taught me to be open to everything – including my cannabis use and how I share with others, so that they can be helped.”

Cannabis’ analgesic effects have been known to quell the pain and body discomforts of withdrawal from pain medications and more, giving a smoother transition off addictive and damaging drugs – whether they are prescribed or found on the street. “I’m just lucky I was never able to take the Oxy they gave me. It made me sick,” she surmised. “That probably would have been harder. But, the lack of education on what I was doing was harsh – everyone gave me grief for my cannabis use. I had to be a warrior on many levels – defending myself to my family, the military and doctors.”

Garat’s medicating morning begins with a cup of cannabis infused coffee and a bowl of her favorite uplifting sativa. “Everything I have now is infused,” she laughed. “My girlfriend, Tesha, makes CBD and THC activated remedies. Her company is Healing Hemptress, and she grows other healing herbs besides cannabis for her products – which are great.” Garat remembers her grandmother using dandelions from the garden often. “She made a creamy soup with dandelions and spinach,” she said. “I use my infused oils in the kitchen for cooking every day. With a philosophy of food as medicine, Garat said she microdoses throughout the day to keep uplifted and the dark clouds at bay. “I also use tinctures throughout the day,” she shared. Dear Mary Jane: You are known far and wide as a veteran of the marijuana wars. As a mature, worldly woman, what concerns you most about contemporary society? Is the end near? Should I spend my days smoking myself into unconscious? Do you think that society is damaged beyond repair? Desperate in Durango

My Dearest Durango Denizen, maybe you should explain what you mean by mature and worldly. Are you calling me an old stoner broad? I mean, I have no problem with that, I just want to establish our roles here. I am a child of the dim, dead 70s and the cocaine-fueled 80s. Do you know what we DIDN’T have when I was younger? Social media, my friend! OK, let me walk that back a little bit. There was social interaction, and there was media, but they didn’t really intersect that often, except maybe at the local drive-in movie. The Internet/World Wide Web/whatever the hell you want to call it has certainly proven to be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it is an absolute boon to research and education and human interaction. It has never been easier to communicate with entities literally all over the world. Unfortunately, it often seems that it is what we do with this communication that is the problem. As I am older than dirt, my primary access to social media is Facebook. Let me tell you about my experiences on Facebook. On the one hand, it provides an excellent way of keeping in touch with friends and family who do not live in the alluring Las Vegas valley. I always enjoy seeing the children and grandchildren of my contemporaries, especially when those kids are kind of funny-looking. You know, big-head babies and such... What is the Dark Side? Well, it depends upon who you ask. Lately, I have been hearing that the Russians used Facebook to influence the results of the 2016 presidential election. Well, I have heard that they stand in line for toilet paper in Russia, and that it isn’t even really good toilet paper. More like a very fine grain sandpaper. Perhaps this explains their excessive vodka

consumption. I do not know how much marijuana is smoked in Russia, but I cannot imagine that it is a whole lot. Do you know what my primary mental association with Russia is? It is all of the Russian daredevils on YouTube, wearing Adidas warmup suits from the 1980s and hanging/falling from 50-story-tall buildings. So how, exactly, are these people influencing me from the other side of the planet? Is laughter influence? I maintain that one can only be influenced by that which they want to be influenced. I like my friend Peter Jay’s “MegaloMedia” FB page, as well as other marijuana related pages, but I tend to avoid all of the other hateful nonsense. Why would I invite that garbage into my life? Facebook and Instagram and others are not sentient beings. They are platforms for self-expression. What people do with these platforms is another story. To me, banning Facebook at all is censorship, and that is not what we do in this country. Maybe Nancy Reagan’s advice to “Just Say No” has finally become relevant. Just a thought. So, no I do not believe that society is beyond redemption. However, if people would accept a little more personal accountability for the information that they share with the rest of the world, things would likely not be quite so dramatic. I'm sorry that you are mad at your husband, but it really is not my fault. Keep your bullshit to yourself, please. TAHOE CANNABIS MAGAZINE: Are you from Nevada? If not, where are you from and how long have you lived here?

Kealoha Pa: I’ve been here for about three months now, just in time for this summer heat. I’m from Molokai, Hawaii. TCM: What led you to become an artist? Kealoha: I’ve been into art from a very young age, always drawing something. I was kind of the leader in my art classes. Even as a

policeman in Honolulu, my beat partner would tell me I was in the wrong field because he would see my sketches I used to do. At one time, I was going to be a sketch artist for mug shots, but my captain killed that idea. I quit after a few years and moved on. TCM: Tell us about your artistic background. Kealoha: I went to California College of the Arts in Oakland back in the 60’s ...never did graduate, getting married put an end to that real quick. Until I was in my 40’s, I was more into art as a hobby. I came across this process called batik while working in Asia and decided to go full time. I

quit my job and decided I was going to be an artist, for richer or poorer. That was twenty something years ago, my art is basically self-taught. TCM: How would you describe your art style? Kealoha: The batik process is from Indonesia, where they do it on fabrics. I do the same thing, but on wood. I use the same fabric dyes as they do, except my resists is very different. Combining that oriental art technique with my Hawaiian creativity, you get my style. I call it chop suey aloha. TCM: Who is your favorite artist and why? Kealoha: Paul Gauguin, his work with the people of Polynesia, and his use of colors are factors that I can really relate to. I’m into

bright, bold colors which is a basic staple of tropical art. TCM: Who/what inspires you? Kealoha: My inspiration, is creating art out of the box. I love going where no one else has gone. Art is competitive, and if you are not ahead of the game, then you are behind in the crowd. TCM: What is your favorite thing about the local art community/scene? Kealoha: I’ve been here for a few months and have not seen much yet. I would like to get more involved and get my work into local galleries once the heat cools down. TCM: What part does cannabis play in your work or creativity? Kealoha: Cannabis used to help my creative juices a lot when I was younger. I cut down a bit to see if I was actually more creative sober and straight. What I found was that I was naturally creative. TCM: How do you consume cannabis and what is your favorite strain? Kealoha: I prefer edibles like gummies and brownies. There is nothing like brownies and a glass of ice cold milk.. I also use CBD oil which I found to be good for my joint pain. Back home in Hawaii in the mid 70’s and 80’s my brother Greg and

I grew a few local strains like Maui Wowie, Kauai Electrik, Puna Butter, Kona Gold, all sweet and potent. We called is Kolas. We would trim buds and our fingers would be so full of resin, that we needed to scrape it off after which we would roll it up into a fat joint. We would make butter from boiling the shake and tea from the leaves. I am amazed how legalization has provided the opportunity to create so many different strains and hybrids from crossbreeding. TCM: How can our readers find you and your artwork? Do you have a studio or gallery here locally? Online store? Kealoha: I’m still a newbie here, not much exposure yet, just doing small art fairs locally and in California and Washington. I have my studio here at home but have not tied up with any local galleries yet. I am currently trying to get my art and t-shirts into our local dispensaries. There’s not too much demand for tropical art here although there is a huge Hawaiian community. But, I am hoping that my Pakalolo Art will find a niche here. Pakalolo is Hawaiian for cannabis. My life as an artist consisted of having to sell my art in order to eat and survive. You have to take it seriously when your existence depends on it. There is no time for screwups. At times you might need to decide, do I buy food or art supplies? It’s not all glamorous. I was lucky I found my niche and became the best I could be doing it. TCM: Anything you would like to add?

Hopper: Let’s start with the basics- how long have you been growing, and what made you want to become a grower? Mikey: I started growing about ten years ago, doing indoor cannabis. One of the reasons I started was because it was hard to find the quality of cannabis that I wanted to smoke, so I figured the only way that was going to happen was to grow it myself. about the new Henchlord strain you’re growing for Chucky Chuck. Mikey: One of the hottest strains to come out in the last couple years is the MAC 1 from Capulator. One of my buddies got ahold of some male pollen from a male Mac plant and crossed it with the Holy Grail OG. I got about 25 seeds from my buddy at Ancient Tech Cultivation as a gift. I sprouted them all, grew them all out, weeded some out just from appearance (like lack of symmetry), and got down to about 8-10 good ones. Then found the females, dumped the males, and got down to three finalists, and I grew those out this season. Our favorite one was really dominant like the MAC 1, but with a soury, kushy background, and that’s the one we’re calling the Henchlord. It was a project I did for Chucky Chuck. He loved the strains I

created the past couple years and we talked and I told him I’d love to do one for him, and he was real excited about it. So that’s how it got started. Hopper: That’s awesome that you’re working with Mr. DGAF himself. Mikey: Yeah, he’s a cool motherfucker. Hopper: What’s your grow philosophy? Mikey: I’ve been in Humboldt County for 16 years now, so I’ve been exposed to a lot of different kinds of cannabis. Lots of outdoor. I love the way outdoor smells and how it’s easier on the throat and lungs than a lot of indoor, but I love the look of indoor- the shine, the crystals. So I when I was introduced to light deprivation cannabis, I thought it had the best of both worlds. It had the

controlled environment of an indoor operation, so you’re able to get the really pretty buds and high crystal content, but it also had the natural sunlight and the fresh outdoor air, so it also had the elements of outdoor with the high terpenes and the flavor. Once I realized that it was the best of both worlds, I really just wanted to focus on becoming a master of light deprivation cannabis. Hopper: You’re definitely crushing it, your final product looks the most like indoor I’ve ever seen. It’s really incredible. Mikey: Thank you. I was trained to grow indoor, so I run it almost identical to how my indoor rooms used to be. Hopper: So for those who don’t know, explain what light dep is. Mikey: The female cannabis

plant starts flowering once it gets 12 hours of darkness. In an indoor room, it’s naturally dark so you have the lights come on for 12 hours. In an outdoor, you just wait for the seasons to go 12/12. In a light deprivation you can do it any time of the year, simply by pulling a large, opaque, black tarp over your greenhouse for 12 hours a day. You’re creating 12 hours of darkness that’ll cause the female to go into flower. Hopper: I really dig the fact that Greenwood Farmz is a family operation, you and your wife make a great team. What’s it like running a family farm? Mikey: It’s awesome in the respect that we work for ourselves. We work really long hours and put in a lot of time and effort. There’s not a lot of free time. We learned early on to separate tasks. My wife handles the business side as well as the permitting side. A lot of people don’t know this, but becoming permitted is almost an impossible feat. It’s an endless cycle of red tape. My wife has handled it like a pro. I wouldn’t be able to have this farm if she hadn’t done that for me. I focus on all the chores in the grow, so I’m outside doing all the gardening. That kinda makes us a dream team. The thing about doing something you love, is it doesn’t feel like punching a clock. I can put in twice as many hours in the garden and come home happy, verses doing a job I don’t like where every hour drags on. That’s one of the reasons we decided to jump into legal cannabis. The dream was to be a self-sustaining family, with our own independent income and operation, and have full control over how we run it.

Hopper: You grow organically. Explain the importance of that and why it makes a superior product. Mikey: I didn’t always grow organically, that happened about halfway through my growing career. I was using nutrient lines, following their schedule for years, and had great results in a commercial sense. I had a buddy bring me some Zkittlez he grew organically in a light dep, and it was amazing weed. I got a cut from him and ran it indoors using my normal methods, and it didn’t come out that good. I was like ‘wow, this is strange’. So, the next year I ran it again, but did it all organically in the greenhouse and it was literally the best weed I’d ever grown. From then on I was like, I’m gonna do everything as organic as possible. I was sold on the idea that organic weed not only tastes better, it smells better, and even the high is better for me. It’s just better in every sense. Hopper: What’s your favorite strain to grow? Mikey: I kind of have strain ADD. I love growing one strain for maybe a season, two tops, and then I’m ready to move on. Hunting new phenotypes is kind of my passion. There’s a lot of great breeders out here in California, and a lot of them gift me seeds. Sometimes I purchase them. I like to get a wide variety of crosses going from seed at the beginning of each season. Throughout the season, I pick the best females and turn those into mother plants and take clones off those mother plants, and I grow those commercially for the next year. I’m always evolving my menu.

Hopper: What’s your favorite strain to smoke?

Hopper: Is there anyone you want to shout out?

Mikey: My favorite strain is one I discovered last year. It’s a cross of ‘92 OG Kush and Mendo Breath. My pheno that I hunted, I named it the Turtle Breath. We named it that because my Mom is an accomplished abstract watercolor painter, and she designed the logo for the company. It’s a really awesome design with a seed trail and a turtle and a little seed sprouting. I love the taste, and the high of the Turtle Breath. It’s one of my favorites. I just got to smoke the Henchlord, my new strain this year, for the first time yesterday.

Mikey: The first and most important one is my wife for helping get us through the nightmare of permitting, so I can be out here growing plants and doing what I love. This season couldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for Eco-Nutrients, a local organic nutrient company that sources all of their nutrients right here locally from our ocean life. I was really broke starting this season because we spent so much money going legal and updating our property to meet all the new compliance standards. I barely had money to run the season, so they sponsored me with all my nutrients. As you can see, the results are amazing. I’ve been using their product since I went organic, so they were already a mainstay in my program. They didn’t need to give me anything for free, but they did and it really helped a small farm like us be able to survive this season. Shout out to Chucky Chuck for inspiring us to collaborate with DGAF and having my back. Gotta give a massive shout out to SRH for taking an interest in a small farm like us. It’s a major honor. he sat looking at herself in the mirror held by one of her Ladies in Waiting. A lump in her throat the size of a Shinty ball, a sport she excelled in when permitted to play, rendered her unable to answer. Slowly nodding her consent, she avoided stating her true wish, not to have her hair braided and cinched back at all. She preferred to wear her long auburn hair, down and free flowing. Unfortunately, she had very little say in most aspects of her life as a Princess. Already embarrassing her parents and upsetting tradition she delayed her wedding day, by feigning illness and refusing to leave her bed for several weeks. Until the family physician revealed there wasn’t anything at all wrong with her. Except perhaps her attitude. Clearly, she could no longer sustain the farce.

boy he was. He sported an extravagant double-edged sword, better suited to a Chinese warrior, instead of the common rapier worn by other men of his class and ranking. Rolf was not at all like the young gardener she secretly spent time with. He wore only a gardener’s machete. It had belonged to his father and grandfather, before him. Its sheath worn from years of sweat and exposure to dirt. Lillianna saw it as a symbol of his authenticity and work ethic. Compared to Aaron, Prince Rolf was a just a Knave with a fancy Knife. The only gem in this arranged marriage was that Lillianna would finally be Lady of her own castle. She imagined spending mornings in her many gardens and afternoons in the kitchen. Evenings, she resigned, would be dedicated to whatever her husband arranged. She planned on taking a few of her Ladies, Cook and of course Aaron with her to Culzean Castle.

While the other young women flitted about preparing her for what they deemed a day of joyful celebration, Princess Lillianna sat pouting as she watched them execute their duties. Closing her eyes to make it all go away, she began visualizing what he called, ‘her happy place.’ Of all her family members and household servants, he was the only one who listened to her, who allowed her to be herself. The only one who knew her heart.

Life with Prince Rolf was indeed as Lillianna had envisioned. Though he had grown suspicious of her excuses about bearing him a child, her beauty, kindness and playfulness seem to pacify him for now. Additionally, his military duties distracted him, allowing Lillianna to spend time as she saw fit.

She realized early on she was different from her sisters and other girls. Unlike them, hours spent studying music, art, embroidery and myriad of other lessons, bored her. Lillianna preferred the gardens; listening to the music of songbirds, enjoying works of art displayed in flowers or contemplating the intricacies of a spider’s ornately woven web. Alternately, the main kitchen brought her great joy. Inhaling the sweet scents of Cook’s freshly baked scones, the savory aroma of a roasted duck resting on the counter or stealing bits of the crispy, cracklins Cook prepared from skins pulled from fresh, Tay River trout.

One morning, meandering through the largest garden, located on the west side of their two-hundred acres, Lillianna noticed an unusual plant. It stood alone, amid the Bog Myrtle and Bracken, but was sufficiently taller. Instead of blooms or buds, there was a smattering of small dull-green clusters. Its leaves were large, with ridges along the edges. Later that day, she showed it to Aaron. Not recognizing the plant, he stated it was likely a Weed and offered to remove it. Lillianna thought the plant interesting and told him to leave it for awhile. Perhaps it was like her; a late-bloomer.

She fussed and fidgeted when forced to sit and make small talk with her sisters and friends about who was best suited to which boy or gossiping about girls not present. Yet she could spend hours pruning roses, digging holes in soil and sowing tiny seeds. She would rather stand on her feet from morning until tea time, slicing, dicing, basting and kneading dough under the tutelage of Cook. In those environments, time didn’t exist. The only markers were those whiffs of nearly done biscuits or an herb-stuffed hen. She understood the passage of seasons as spoken by the language of plants when red and yellowed leaves floated to the ground in autumn or glistening dewdrops shone on the petals of a newly opened blossom.

She watched as the plant grew into a gangly, spindly stalk. Seeing it didn’t appear to have any natural tendencies towards blooming flowers or bearing fruit, she decided she would direct Aaron to remove it. Earlier that morning, a group of Noblemen from Asia arrived. An avid collector of African and Asian art, yet too timid to travel abroad himself, the Prince regularly invited other countrymen to come to him instead. As was customary, the Noblemen travelled with their own servants and a few household staff. One of them was a diminutive, elderly man with a long white beard, and clean shaven head. His clothing appeared to be sewn of cloth equal in value to that of his Master’s. However, the ties around his waist were not brightly printed bands; rather his were made of an odd looking rope material.

She had met Prince Rolf only twice before their impending nuptials. According to her mother, he was “quite a catch; for a girl like her. Tall and handsome with a bright future ahead.” Lillianna couldn’t get past his heavy, bushy brows and pencil-thin lips. He was attempting to grow a beard at their first meeting. It was spotty and looked more like the hairs on one of the freshly plucked pigeons she had cleaned the day before. By their second meeting, he had given up his effort to look manly, causing him to appear more the baby-faced, ill-mannered

When she asked Aaron and Cook why he stood out from the others, Aaron explained though he was a servant, he was one of high ranking. He didn’t just serve his Lord and Master, he also advised him. This peculiar man, known as Ling, was considered a Wiseman; worldly and knowledgeable about medicine, horticulture, and mystical matters. This caught Lillianna’s attention.

Always the gracious and competent hostess, which pleased Prince Rolf to no end, Lillianna knew her husband was ripe for the asking, whenever they had visitors. That evening she requested permission to spend time with Ling, so she could learn more about gardening and culinary uses for the exotic teas and spices he and his Master had brought as gifts. Few servants or staff were pleased their princess was permitted to bring a strange man from a far-off land into their kitchens and gardens. Especially over-protective Cook, who slammed her cleaver into the butcher’s block when she was told to prepare. With the aid of an interpreter, Lilliana brought the esoteric man into the main kitchen, where they, Aaron and Cook brewed and sampled his teas and spices. The following day, Lillianna gave Ling a tour of her gardens. It was well after tea by the time they made their way to the strange Weed, where she directed Aaron to meet them. Following his Princess’s directive, Aaron raised his machete to slash the stalk. Ling frantically uttered words in a language Aaron didn’t understand, but the tone was such, he froze mid-swing. The interpreter explained Ling was trying to impress upon them the stalk was more than just a bothersome Weed. Telling them the plant was a Cannabis Ruderalis; the same plant used to produce paper and textiles in his country. The very ropes he wore were made of Hemp; its common name. The Weed bent and gently swayed, as though thanking Ling for saving it from destruction. Though this plant was the lone one of its kind in her garden, Ling told them, it did grow wild in other parts of Scotland. Hearty enough to endure the rough, rocky terrain and harsh weather, Ruderalis is multi-useful in spite of its appearance. A knowledgeable gardener in her own right, thanks to Aaron, Lillianna asked if Ruderalis could be used in cooking. Ling smiled, telling them the family of Cannabis included Ruderalis, Sativa and Indica. Though smoking or consuming Ruderalis could result in head pain, Sativa and Indica offered wonderful and expansive Medicinal benefits, along with mild states of euphoria. This news excited both Lillianna and Aaron. Lillianna had grown increasingly worried about her beloved Cook. Years of standing on her feet, bending, lifting massively heavy bags of flour, sugar, fruits and vegetables had taken their toll. Aaron’s father, now well past his prime, continued to work in the gardens for Lillianna’s family, yet refused to retire. For the next several days, while Prince Rolf viewed, bargained and purchased works of art, Lillianna, Aaron and Cook studied under Ling’s expertise, learning how to plant, grow, harvest then utilize Cannabis. Due to weather conditions, they did as Ling suggested using greenhouses to cultivate the seeds he had so generously given them. In return, Lillianna gave Ling some of her jewelry and fabrics. Slipping another pouch filled with more Cannabis seeds into Aaron’s gardener’s apron, Ling wished them luck and climbed upon his horse to leave with the others. As Ling had promised, sprouts soon displayed their heads, growing into hearty plants. Eventually bulging with purple and orange clusters each accented with frosty white hairs. Aaron had thought to clone the original Ruderalis, placing the fledgling babies in their own greenhouse where they flourished. By the end of Lillianna’s second trimester, she and Aaron had harvested far more plant material than they could’ve hoped for. The multitudes

of branches, laden with buds, were collected for drying. They gave Cook some lovely Nugs along with trim for her to transform into butters, oils, teas and balms. The teas helped reduce Lillianna’s morning sickness which lasted from morning to dusk. Meanwhile, she and Aaron worked through trial and error learning how to manufacture fabric, rope and paper. When her son finally made his appearance into the world, Lillianna’s parents were so thoroughly pleased, her father not only Knighted Prince Rolf, giving him yet another sword, he bestowed upon his daughter a second dowry. He was sure motherhood had finally “calmed and help her mature. Therefore she should be rewarded.” He was right, his daughter had calmed and matured, but not for the reason he believed. Instead, she and her true Knight went about making other plans for her unexpected windfall.

Cosmic Muffin’s Recipe For Hemp Paper Ingredients/Tools

200 grams of hemp material – leaves, trim, “bast” (outer skin pulled from the stalks) 100 grams Soda Ash or Washing Soda Fragrance Vinegar Bucket Large plastic tub Deckle (screen mesh stapled onto an old wooden frame) Heavy non-reactive/non-food pot Sponge Rolling pin Sheet pans Gloves

Process

Remove twigs, pebbles and debris from plant material. Cut plant material into 2” strips. Soak in a large container, filled with water overnight. Following morning; pour enough water into the heavy pot so all plant material will be submerged. Over medium; heat water but DO NOT allow to boil. Before water reaches boiling point, wearing gloves, add soda ash or washing soda to water. If you add ash to boiling water you’re likely to experience an explosion! BE CAREFUL! Stir in plant material allowing mixture to cook over medium-low until pieces are easily pulled about – about 1 hour. Remove pot from heat and pour mixture over a strainer into bucket. Allow water to cool but DO NOT dump it out – we have to neutralize it after cooling. Meanwhile rinse the plant material (slurry) with clean, cool water until the water runs clean. Place material onto a clean surface and pound, with end of rolling pin or heavy can, until material looks like thin bits of thread. This is going to require patience. Fill the plastic tub with water and the slurry. Using that McGyver’d deckle you made earlier, dip, sift and collect plant fiber onto the screen. Do this about 6-8 times until you have collected a sufficient amount of material to coat the screen. Carefully invert the screen onto a clean towel and let the sheet fall from the deckle (you may have to help by peeling gently). Place another clean towel on top, then press down, using a sponge to draw out as much water as you can. Repeat sequence until all plant material has been harvested. Remove paper from towels and hang to dry. Remember that soda ash water? Add 1 cup of vinegar to neutralize, then dispose of the water.

CannaBushi Infused Poke Style Spring Rolls Yields 6 rolls (depending on amounts of vegetables/protein used) INGREDIENTS: 1 package rice paper- 25cm size 4 cups fresh spinach (washed) 2 carrots (peeled, washed and julienned) 1 cup roasted sesame seeds ½ cup scallions (thinly sliced, washed and strained) ½ white onion (thinly sliced, washed and strained) Sushi grade Tuna filet (1 or 2 filets) ½ cup mayonnaise 1 tsp. turmeric spice 8 oz. soy sauce 4 oz. Sriracha 2 oz. Sour Diesel-infused chili oil (infused using Magical Butter Machine) *CBD hemp flower can be used for non THC users* 1 oz. sesame oil 4 drops True Terpenes Mai Tai terps (a little goes a long way)

SOUR DIESEL INFUSED POKE SAUCE 1. Mix your soy sauce, Sriracha, infused chili oil and sesame oil in preferably a leak proof container. 2. Shake very vigorously for about a minute or until sauces have successfully combined. Boom! You just made infused Poke sauce! Make sure to shake before each use furthermore. TRUE TERPENE INFUSED TURMERIC AIOLI 1. Mix your mayo, turmeric spice and terpenes thoroughly. We could make the mayonnaise from scratch but hey, we want to eat food lol. 2. Use a small piping bag or a Ziplock bag with a small cut to one of the corners (cheap piping bag on the fly!) Plus you just made your first aioli of sorts. Place in fridge. MAKING THE INFUSED TUNA FILET 1. Cut your Tuna filet against the grain into strips about ½ inch by ½ inch and keep them around 6 inches long. 2. Grab some of the Sour Diesel-infused Poke sauce we made earlier. Place tuna strips into a container and lightly cover the meat with sauce so it’s able to be marinated but not be drowning in sauce. 3. Cover with plastic and place in fridge for a minimum of 15 minutes. Keep it in the fridge until needed regardless. (Remember this is raw, so use quality ingredients.) MAKING THE CANNABUSHI INFUSED POKE SPRING ROLL 1. Grab a medium/large size bowl of water, this is for the rice paper wrap. 2. Place rice paper into the water and dampen it so that it has been covered gently with water. (The warmer the water the quicker you must do the next steps, keep this in mind.)

3. Place onto cutting board with a “flap” of sorts off the edge. This will help you grab it when ready. 4. Start adding your ingredients - spinach, carrots, white onions. Make a “bed” of sorts for the tuna. 5. Grab the infused tuna and place one strip into the roll. 6. The rice paper should have become more pliable, allowing it to be rolled. Begin rolling it like a burrito, making sure to tuck the ends over. This will ensure a good seal. 7. The rice paper will need to be handled a bit gently as it can tear easily. Just keep a good wrap around the ingredients. Hey, we can roll joints and blunts, so this is easy! Imagine it like that and each time you make these, they will come out better than the last. 8. Cut into equal pieces like sushi. I recommend using the water in your bowl to keep the knife wet so it does not stick to the rice paper. If the rice paper rips or tears, it’s ok, try again because you got this! 9. Place pieces on plate of your choice, facing upwards. Grab the True Terpene Aioli and squeeze a dot onto the pieces. I totally used a Ziplock bag for ease of clean up. Sprinkle some sesame seeds and sliced scallions on top. Put a little Poke sauce on the side for dipping. Add some sesame seeds, scallions and a dot of Sriracha if you would like to the dipping sauce. Have fun and play with ideas. 10. Congratulations, you just made the complete Infused Spring Roll. Mess around with different vegetables and types of ingredients. Try adding a rice vermicelli and create your very own rolls inspired by CannaBushi. I hope you all enjoy this recipe!
