Harmony Between Birds and Human

2025 | Thesis Project | Takeshita St, Tokyo

Master Project Award

Wings and Whispers is a project that reimagines urban spaces as sanctuaries for both people and birds. Inspired by the movements and habitats of the Japanese White-eye, Brown-eared Bulbul, and Eurasian Tree Sparrow, the design creates an immersive environment where city dwellers can slow down and reconnect with nature. Rooted in plant research and bird behavior, the project transforms an underutilized site near Takeshita Street into a dynamic space that fosters human-bird interactions. Over time, Wings and Whispers will expand to repurpose empty parking lots across Tokyo, integrating greenery and natural habitats into the urban fabric.

Plant choices within the building were carefully based on the birds’ needs, creating an environment that supports their food sources, shelter, and daily rhythms.

Tokyo’s steady year-round rainfall provides a reliable source of water to nourish the reflective basins nestled throughout the space.

The nursery below offers many of the same plants found in the space above, encouraging people to grow them at home and deepen their bond with the birds in their own surroundings.

The plants were intentionally spread throughout the space to reduce competition among birds for food and territory, creating a more peaceful and balanced environment for coexistence.

This project is just the beginning, with plans to transform other vacant parking lots into gentle sanctuaries for local birds and quiet spaces where the community can pause, connect, and whisper with nature.

ELEVATED GROVE

2022 | Community Center | Coconut Grove, FL

Elevated Grove is a four-story community center designed to seamlessly integrate with its natural surroundings while promoting passive cooling and sustainable water management. The structure embraces an open design philosophy, featuring expansive openings on all exterior walls to facilitate cross-ventilation, reducing reliance on mechanical heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

THE FOREST INSIDE THE CAVE

2023 | Residential | Tokyo, Japan

The Forest inside the cave was implemented after taking our client’s mountain climbing hobby into consideration. The project is located in Japan where nature is of the upmost importance. In Japanese architecture, the symbiotic relationship between the traditional Japanese house and garden is extremely important. Japanese architects and designers make an eort to replicate the natural environment, which represents purity, simplicity, and calm. The design embraces simplicity, functionality, and a deep respect for the environment. This architectural approach aims to minimize the use of resources and focus on essential elements, while maximizing the connection between the built environment and the natural world.

Floor Concept: Inspired by Tatami, Shaped by Movement

Inspired by traditional Japanese tatami mats, the floor layout guides movement through a rhythmic, modular design. Curved like a gentle bowl, the edges offer natural comfort — turning the floor into a soft, multifunctional surface for resting, stretching, or simply being.

LIFE ON A MOUNTAIN

FALL 2023 | Residential/Commercial | Sanya, China

Vanessa Pierre Louis Sebastien Pierre Louis

On a small island in China, an innovative organic dome is redefining the boundaries between public and private spaces while embracing sustainable living. Designed as a shared living space for two families, the dome also houses a restaurant and farmer’s market, seamlessly integrating agriculture into its outer shell to support food production. Prioritizing environmental harmony, the structure harnesses natural light, rainwater collection, and sustainable materials like mycelium, recycled steel, and Ecosense glass, fostering a self-sustaining ecosystem. This visionary project represents a paradigm shift in urban design, merging modern living with ecological consciousness to create a truly innovative and sustainable architectural landmark.
