THIS BEGAN as a prayer site for our prisoners in general, but I am also adding "death row" prisoners in specific..after hearing a few stories about persons on death row wrongly convicted.., and also about "zealous prosecutors" not concerned about false convictions..but simply getting convictions, true or false. Let us remain conscientious about false convictions, zealous prosecutors, and all things related; as well as care & prayer for those who were rightly convicted.

also see http://www.innocenceproject.org/Content/Compensating_Th e_Wrongly_Convicted.php AS a Christian I am called... & we are called collectively, and individually, to CARE about our prisoners...some who are wrongfully jailed or even wrongfully executed, others who are actually guilty as a matter-of-fact, but nonetheless still deserve a certain amount of care and especially PRAYER...; NOTICE the Bible doesn't say "remember those who are wrongfully in prison..."; it mandates care & prayer for all prisoners regardless of the wrongs they 41
committed, and the harm they may have done. YES we condemn harmful actions in general and according to specifics as well, and ask our justice system to do their job accordingly, but apart from that let us ALSO remember these prisoners in PRAYER, and for those who have the ability to also visit with them and minister to them personally in prisons. I recently (4/22/13) read a list of people who were CONFIRMED to have been wrongly executed, ie. they were determined to have NOT committed the crime for which they were convicted and sentenced to death. This TOUCHED my heart and reminded me of the importance of paying attention to what is happening in the justice system, and NOT turn a blind eye or think it's "too much" or too overwhelming for simple people such as you and I. We MUST pay attention to these matters, as able, in a civil manner. Read newspapers, even attend trials at times if it will help you be aware...and especially more conscientious about matters of "justice" or "injustice" ... I will be periodically posting thoughts, articles, prayers, etc here ... -vk" For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? Isaiah 61:1 SO, there are various Bible verses about prisoners, the above being just one of them, and of course it must be taken into CONTEXT for today...we are not so "pollyanish" to believe that we can just open the prison doors to all and think that they will all be good citizens, but we can be AWARE of our prisoners, and certainly SOME could be released without harm to society. Some have been wrongly convicted. Others are victims of society as well. We hope and pray that the justice system gets it right in most cases, but we also know there are problems. I myself have seen corruption in the "justice system" and so I am well aware that in some cases, the 47
justice system is unjust, to put it mildly. And as Christians we have a responsibility to CARE for ALL prisoners, from petty thieves to mass murderers and everything in between, despite our abhorrence of some of their behavior. And we must always ask ourselves if we could have done anything to help prevent a person from becoming "criminal"? I am NOT a "bleeding heart liberal' , in fact I am a "compassionate conservative", and an evangelical Christian and therefore I try to be "Biblical' in my worldview and how I live my life, including care & prayer for our prisoners. There are entire ministries that are specifically devoted to prisoners, which do it MUCH better than I do, and one of them is "prison fellowship" at http://www.prisonfellowship.org/ . Another is "metanoia ministries" at http://pcamna.org/metanoia-ministries/ (note: 48
I have not thoroughly researched either of the above, but just glanced at their websites, both of which look good. Prison fellowship is a recognized name, and metanoia ministries is part of the presbyterian church.)
This blog will be devoted to the topic of prisoner care & prayer, and I will be posting items of interest, or words of encouragement, etc, periodically. If a prisoner happens to see and read this, please know that myself and others are thinking about and praying for you, and some of our chaplains et al are coming into the prisons to do pastoral care with and for you. KEEP the HOPE ! -vk-
