FRONT OFFICE STAFF ALLAN BAILEY

GENERAL MANAGER Allan Bailey has been with the Vancouver Canadians since 2007 and was appointed General Manager on September 5th, 2018 after spending the previous seven seasons as the organization's Assistant General Manager. 2026 is his 20th season with the club Allan has led several departments during his tenure with the C's including the Nat Bailey Stadium Box Office and its ticket operations as well as his more recent efforts in the Team Operations handling everything from player housing and travel right through to Information Technology (IT). Born in Victoria, B.C., Allan was raised on the North Shore and up on the Sunshine Coast. Allan completed his education at McGill University while playing five seasons with the McGill Redbirds baseball program. Prior to university, Allan played for the North Shore Twins of the B.C. Premier League

WALTER COSMAN

VICE PRESIDENT OF SALES & MARKETING With more than 20 years of Sales & Marketing experience here in Vancouver, Walter decided to put those skills to work in the sport he's most passionate about: baseball. 2026 is his seventh season at The Nat. With a B.A. from the University of New Brunswick, Walter has worked with Proctor & Gamble, Molson Canada, Granville Island Brewing and Steamworks Brewing. With a longstanding corporate partnership with the Canadians prior to his arrival in May of 2019, Walter joined the organization fully aware of the standard that has put the C's among the best in Minor League Baseball.

BRENDA CHMILIAR

FINANCIAL CONTROLLER Brenda enters her 17th season at Rogers Field at Nat Bailey Stadium and her sixth as Financial Controller for the Canadians. She spent the first 10 of those years with Aramark Food Services in the company's financial division, dividing her time between the ballpark and Rogers Arena. Her knowledge of stadium operations thanks to her time with both Aramark and the Canadians have proven to be invaluable during her tenure. Brenda is responsible for all aspects of the financial operations and is right at home here at The Nat; much of her childhood was spent on local baseball fields up in Kamloops.

ROSEMARY ALBERTS

MANAGER, MARKETING SERVICES Rosemary has been with the Canadians since the 2024 season. She specializes in overseeing sponsorship servicing, ingame entertainment, social media, and fan communications while supporting fan engagement and brand growth for the Canadians. She graduated from the University of British Columbia with her Bachelor of Arts in May 2023 and her Master of Management in December 2023. Born in Richmond, Rosemary was raised in Victoria where she grew up playing volleyball. Her previous work experience includes being the Communications & Administrative Coordinator for Athletics for Kids and a Varsity Game Day Statistician for UBC Athletics. When Rosemary is not at The Nat, she enjoys her time watching the Canucks, kickboxing, or spending time with family and friends.

TYLER ZICKEL JACOB NAKHLEH

DIRECTOR, TICKET OPERATIONS Jacob joined the C’s for the 2016 season, starting his time at The Nat in the Box Office. Jacob was first hired as a member of the game day staff, then promoted to Box Office Assistant before joining the sales team at the conclusion of the 2021 season. After spending the 2022 and 2023 seasons working in sales and community relations, Jacob is thrilled to be back where it all started – working in (and now running) the Nat Bailey Box Office. Prior to joining the C’s in a full-time role, Jacob earned his Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of Saskatchewan. When he’s not at The Nat, Jacob can be found wishing he was out ice fishing back in Saskatchewan or rooting on his USask Huskies, Toronto Blue Jays, and Seattle Seahawks.

MANAGER, BROADCASTING & MEDIA RELATIONS 2026 is Tyler’s sixth with the Canadians, ninth within the Blue Jays organization and 12th in Minor League Baseball. Before the C's, Tyler served as the Director of Promotions & Entertainment and Radio Broadcaster for the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Over the course of three seasons in Manchester, he oversaw the entire in-game presentation and promotions departments while traveling throughout the Eastern League calling 'Cats games. He has especially fond memories of the 2018 campaign, when he worked alongside current Jays (and former C’s) skipper John Schneider and the likes of Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio and Jordan Romano. He began his MiLB career in 2014 as a communications intern for the Advanced-A Lake Elsinore Storm in the California League. He made his professional baseball radio debut with the Storm and handled the middle innings of road games for the rest of his tenure. VANCOUVER CANADIANS 2026 / 5

CHARLENE YAROSHUK

ACCOUNTING COORDINATOR Charlene has been with the Vancouver Canadians since the 2018 season. She spent her first summer working as a co-op student before transitioning to working full time in the accounting department. Charlene graduated from Kwantlen Polytechnic University in 2020 with her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. Growing up in New Westminster Charlene spent over 10 years practicing martial arts and currently holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Before joining the Canadians she previously worked as an assistant martial arts instructor.

COOPER MISIC

SENIOR COORDINATOR, SALES Cooper enters his fifth season with the Canadians and his second season as Senior Coordinator, Sales. He is excited to continue taking on more responsibilities with the club as well as continuing to grow within the Canadians Organization itself. A former Langley Blaze star pitcher who took his talents south of the border to play for both Galveston College in Texas and Central Washington University in Washington State. Cooper graduated from CWU with a degree in Sports Management with a Specialization in Business. When Cooper’s away from The Nat, you can find him enjoying his time outside, trying out all the new restaurants and cafes in town , and hitting up the golf course as much as possible.

ZACH MAHAFFY

COORDINATOR, SALES Zachary is entering his fifth season with the Vancouver Canadians, and his second as Sales Coordinator. He first joined the club as Box Office Assistant prior to the 2022 season, and moved into a sales role in 2024. In April 2023, Zachary graduated with a BBA from the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University, concentrating in Marketing and Strategic Analysis. Born in Mississauga, Ontario, but raised in Surrey, Zachary played rep hockey with Semiahmoo MHA as well as one season in the Pacific Junior Hockey League with the White Rock Whalers and Port Moody Panthers, in addition to playing baseball with the White Rock South Surrey Baseball Association. Outside the Nat, you can find him at your local arena officiating a hockey game, at the gym, or cheering on the Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Blue Jays, or Seattle Seahawks..

DREW HOWSON

COORDINATOR, SALES 2026 marks Drew’s fifth season in the Toronto Blue Jays organization and fourth in Vancouver. This year is his second as a Sales Coordinator. After graduating St. Clair College with a degree in Sport and Recreation Management and interning with the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires, Drew began his career in professional baseball as a member of the Canadians Grounds Crew. He would go on to gain experience with the Toronto Blue Jays Facility Department, assisting with the renovation and clean-up of Rogers Centre before returning to Rogers Field at Nat Bailey Stadium. Drew is a baseball savant. He played and coached at many levels in his hometown community of Windsor, Ontario, most notably with the Tecumseh Rangers. In his off time, you’ll usually find him hiking, playing his guitar, or cheering on the Detroit Tigers and his beloved Michigan Wolverines. Go Blue!

DAWSON MARCHAND

COORDINATOR, SALES 2026 marks Dawson’s second season with the Vancouver Canadians as a Sales Associate. He is excited to apply his skills and continue growing within the organization. Growing up in Maple Ridge, Dawson graduated from BCIT in 2024 with a diploma in Marketing Management, specializing in Digital Marketing and Brand Strategy. His passion for sports and marketing led him to pursue a career in the sports industry, where he is eager to contribute to the team’s success. When Dawson’s away from The Nat, you can find him training in Muay Thai Kickboxing, going to the gym, watching NBA basketball, or cheering on the Pittsburgh Penguins.

BEN LETWIN

COORDINATOR, SALES Ben enters his second year with the Canadians as a Sales Associate. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from Langara College in December 2025. He formerly worked at Nat Bailey for two seasons on the food service side as a lead cook in the premium third base porch section and is passionate about his role as a Sales Associate. Growing up in Vancouver, Ben played rep hockey with the Vancouver Thunderbirds and won the AAA Provincials with the team in 2018. Outside of the Canadians, he enjoys playing hockey In the UBC Rec League, playing golf in his free time, and watching the Seahawks and Canucks.

CHARLES O’NEILL

SALES ASSOCIATE Chris Georges returns for his third year with the Canadians, adding sales to his arsenal after two seasons as a media relations and broadcast assistant. Born and raised in Pickering, Ontario, Chris played varsity baseball for four years at the University of Waterloo. He continued his studies with the completion of BCIT's Radio Arts and Entertainment program in 2024. When he isn't at The Nat, Chris can be found playing an array of different sports, including a weekly dodgeball league. He is a longtime loyal fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, Atlanta Braves, and Colorado Avalanche.

MATTHEW REYES

SALES ASSOCIATE Matthew is beginning his first season with the Vancouver Canadians as a Sales Associate. After spending over a year in B2B sales with PepsiCo, he decided to return to the diamond and pursue a career in professional baseball. A 2021 graduate of Graceland University, Matthew has played and coached baseball internationally in Austria and Australia, as well as locally with the North Shore Twins back in 2016.

DIRECTOR, STADIUM OPS Charles is in his third season with the team in 2026 after working for a variety of baseball clubs including the Long Island Ducks and New York Mets. He brings a wealth of knowledge from his prior experiences to Nat Bailey Stadium. He previously completed his Bachelor of Sports Management from Farmingdale State College in New York.

LEVI WEBER

HEAD GROUNDSKEEPER Levi – the 2023 Northwest League Groundskeeper of the Year – is no stranger to this circuit, with prior experience as the Head Groundskeeper for the Spokane Indians at Avista Stadium. His talents have also taken him to the desert, where he was the Field Manager for the Los Angeles Dodgers at the Spring Training facility in Arizona. 2026 is his fifth season at The Nat. The Colton, WA native graduated from Washington State University with a Double Major in Turfgrass Management and Vegetable Management and two minors in Horticulture and Agricultural Systems. In his time away from the ballpark, you can find him on the golf course, weight training or enjoying time with family and friends.

When he’s not at the Nat, Matthew can be found coaching high school baseball, biking around the city, or having coffee on Main Street. His long-term goal is to one day work with the Toronto Blue Jays or within Major League Baseball.

MAYELA RODRIGUEZ

MARKETING ASSOCIATE This is Mayela’s first season with the Canadians. She graduated from Simon Fraser University with a degree in Communication. Mayela was part of the Vancouver Canucks Top Prospect Internship Program where she discovered her passion for the sports industry. Outside of work she can be found reading, at the gym or watching Formula One.

JAKE CASEY NAMED NWL PLAYER OF THE WEEK THREE DOUBLES, FOUR HOMERS, 13 RBI AMONG EYE-POPPING SERIES STATS FROM #26 BLUE JAYS PROSPECT

Minor League Baseball has named Canadians outfielder Jake Casey as the Northwest League Player of the Week for August 17-23 after he went 9-for-23 (.391) with three doubles, four home runs, seven runs scored, 13 RBI, two walks and two steals while posting a 1.488 OPS in six games. It's the first weekly honour of his professional career and the 12th time a Canadian has earned a league award this season. That’s the most weekly recognitions for one team in the circuit this year. Casey, 23, started his herculean week at the plate on Tuesday night with his second two-homer game as a pro, a solo shot for an insurance run in the fifth and a two-run bomb in the sixth to pad the lead before icing the game with a sacrifice fly in the eighth to post four RBI in a 10-5 C’s win. He provided a go-ahead RBI double on Wednesday then drove in another run with a pinch-hit two bagger the following evening before a career showing on Friday. That night, the Pittsburgh, PA native not only went three-for-five with a double and two more home runs – including the game-winning three-run blast in the top of the tenth – but drove in a new personal best seven RBI while scoring three runs and working a walk. The #26 Blue Jays prospect would single and score twice on Saturday then added another hit and a walk on Monday to wrap his most productive six-game stretch as a pro over two seasons since he was drafted last year in the 15th round out of Kent State. ROAD TO THE SHOW

The Canadians are a part of the Toronto Blue Jays organization. The C’s are a High A affiliate of the Blue Jays. That means they are in the middle of the Toronto farm system, slightly higher than the Dunedin Blue Jays (Low A) and the Gulf Coast Blue Jays (Rookie). Baseball players work their way up through the organization in hopes of getting to the big leagues. Toronto is in the American League and pulls its talent from these teams. THE BLUE JAYS TRADE DEADLINE H Dasan Hill: The Power Lefty Toronto Wanted When the Blue Jays sent Jeff Hoffman to the Minnesota Twins on August 3, the headline return was Hill, a 20-year-old southpaw the Twins had drafted 69th overall out of a Texas high school in 2024. Hill arrived in Toronto's system as the Twins' No. 7 prospect and immediately slotted in among the Blue Jays' top ten, prized for a fastball that touches the upper 90s, a plus slider and an above-average curveball. The trade-off is command — Hill posted a 30.6 percent strikeout rate but a 14.9 percent walk rate across Single-A and High-A ball in 2025, the classic profile of a power arm still refining his control. Hill was assigned straight to Vancouver on August 1 and has already given C's fans a glimpse of the ceiling scouts rave about. In his second start for the club, a 5-3 win over Tri-City, Hill matched his second-longest outing of the season, working four innings and allowing just one unearned run while striking out three at Nat Bailey. It was a strong follow-up to an equally encouraging debut, and it's easy to see why national evaluators have floated Hill as a future front-of-rotation piece for Toronto. Ty Southisene: The Spark Plug from Chicago Southisene came to the Blue Jays a day earlier, on August 2, as part of the return for Kevin Gausman, whose five-year run in Toronto ended with a trade to the Chicago Cubs. The 21-year-old shortstop — undersized at 5-foot-7 but overflowing with bat-to-ball skills — was Chicago's No. 13 prospect and slotted in as Toronto's No. 17 after the deal. Southisene doesn't hit for power (he went 157 games without a home run before joining the Jays), but that's almost beside the point: he was hitting .306 with a .425 on-base percentage this season, and posted a sparkling .326 average with 20 stolen bases over 44 games at High-A South Bend before the trade. Southisene has settled in quickly at Vancouver, and he already has a moment C's fans can say they witnessed live: his first professional home run came as a member of the Canadians. For a hitter whose game is built on plate discipline, contact and speed rather than pop, that milestone stood out. Expect to see him near the top of the lineup, working counts, using the whole field and pressuring opposing defenses on the bases.

Dameury Peña: Coming Tuesday, Bringing a Bat The third piece of the Hoffman return, infielder Dameury Peña, joins Hill on the move from Minnesota's system — and he'll officially join the Canadians roster on Tuesday. Signed by the Twins out of the Dominican Republic (Bonao) in January 2023, the 20-year-old second baseman has built a reputation in Minnesota's farm system as a pure hit-tool prospect: a 60-grade bat paired with modest power, evidenced by a career built on line drives to all fields rather than the long ball. Peña's 2026 season with the Twins organization showed exactly that profile. Working back from injury with Low-A Fort Myers, he caught fire over a seven-game stretch, batting an eyepopping .476 with a 1.144 OPS, a double and three stolen bases while drawing seven walks against just two strikeouts. Zoomed out across the season, Peña hit .308 with a home run, two stolen bases, a strikeout rate of just 7.0 percent and elite bat control — the kind of contact skills that make him one of the tougher outs in any lineup he joins. Defensively, he has experience around the infield at second and third base, giving Vancouver's coaching staff some flexibility. For Canadians fans, Peña's arrival adds another high-contact bat to a lineup already featuring Southisene — a duo capable of putting the ball in play, working counts and creating havoc on the bases. Combined with Hill anchoring the rotation, Toronto's trade deadline has quietly turned Nat Bailey Stadium into one of the more interesting stops on the farm system map this summer.

MANAGER After leading the C’s to a 75-win season in 2025 – the second-most regular season wins for the club this millennium – and a franchise-record 11-game winning streak, Jose Mayorga is back on the top step in the home dugout. Mayorga has been managing in the Blue Jays system since 2022. He spent two seasons at the helm for the FCL Blue Jays then managed Single-A Dunedin to a 69-61 record in 2024, the club’s best mark since 2019. The Pueblo Nuevo, Panama native was also the bench coach for the C’s in 2018. Mayorga brings a championship pedigree to Vancouver, leading the Federales de Chiriqui to back-to-back Panamanian Professional Baseball League titles in 202223 and 2023-24. The latter squad went 5-1 in the 2024 Caribbean Series and placed third in the tournament. Mayorga returned to Los Federales this offseason and will be the head man for Panama at this year’s World Baseball Classic. As a player, Mayorga was a catcher in the Philadelphia Phillies system from 2010 to 2015.

BENCH COACH von Roemer is back as Mayorga’s right-hand man, continuing his impressive rise as a professional coach since joining the Blue Jays as an intern in 2019. Among many team highlights in 2025, he celebrated his first win as a pro manager when he filled in during Mayorga’s paternity leave. He has rapidly ascended the organizational ranks, first as Technology Operations Coordinator then as Double-A New Hampshire’s development coach in 2023 before making his bench coach debut on Mayorga’s staff with Single-A Dunedin last year. The Kendall Park, NJ native played collegiately at Kenyon College from 2015 to 2018, slashing .366/.416/.503 with a .919 OPS in 147 games played across four seasons with the Lords (now known as the Owls).

PITCHING COACH Eric Yardley returns to the same role he thrived in last year, shepherding the likes of ranked Blue Jays prospects Trey Yesavage, Gage Stanifer and Fernando Perez as part of one of the Northwest League’s best pitching staffs. A native of Richland, WA, the former right-handed reliever posted a career ERA of 3.52 in 53.2 innings of work across 51 MLB games. Yardley also logged Triple-A innings with the Cubs and Blue Jays in 2022. He joined the coaching ranks last season and served as Double-A New Hampshire’s bullpen coach.

HITTING COACH Former big leaguer Jonathan Davis will work with the hitters this season after joining the C’s staff in the same role in the second half last year. Originally drafted by Toronto in the 15th round of the 2013 draft out of Central Arkansas, Davis stopped in Vancouver in 2014 then continued up the ladder until he made his MLB debut on September 5, 2018. He appeared in 102 games across four seasons with the Blue Jays then was picked up by the Yankees, where he wrapped up the 2021 campaign. He signed with Milwaukee in 2022 then spent his final big league season with Miami in 2023. After retiring as a player, he joined Single-A Dunedin’s coaching staff in 2024.

ASSISTANT PITCHING COACH Tommy Caulfield makes his High-A debut as Assistant Pitching Coach after his first professional season in the same role with Double-A New Hampshire a year ago. He joined the Jays after coaching at Saint Mary’s College for two years. The Burlingame, CA played collegiately at Skyline College and Chicago State before transferring to the University of San Francisco then spent three seasons in the Pioneer League and Frontier League. Part Seven: The Night of the Riot

A LEGEND REMEMBERS:

JIM ROBSON’S FINAL INTERVIEW Last autumn, legendary sportscaster Jim Robson sat down with the Vancouver Canadians as part of the club’s 75th anniversary celebration series, reflecting on decades of baseball memories in Vancouver. It would prove to be one of the final extended interviews of his remarkable career. Robson passed away on February 9, 2026 at the age of 91, leaving behind a broadcasting legacy woven into the fabric of sports in British Columbia.

In this final excerpt from the interview, Robson revisits the most violent night he ever called from the broadcast booth — a bench-clearing riot that sent a Seattle catcher to hospital with a fractured skull and spilled over into a hotel lobby the next morning. He then steps back to consider what makes a ballpark like Nat Bailey Stadium special, and offers a clear-eyed answer to a question about baseball’s future in Vancouver. Asked to tell the story of the riot, Robson didn’t hesitate. It happened in 1966, and to this day a recording of his broadcast of that night survives on a CD kept by broadcaster Greg Douglas — by Robson’s account, the worst baseball riot Vancouver has ever seen. Vancouver’s lineup that season included several Black players, among them a good hitter named Ricardo Joseph. On the mound for Seattle was Jim Coates, a pitcher out of North Carolina with a reputation, Robson said, for throwing at Black batters.

The First Brawl

Joseph turned away from the pitch and was struck high in the back. “He drops the bat, he charges the mound, he starts throwing punches at the Seattle pitcher,” Robson recalled. Seattle catcher Merritt Ranew — a well-regarded prospect in the Cincinnati organization — ran out and pulled Joseph off Coates, and both benches emptied. The two managers, Bob Lemon of Seattle and Mickey Vernon of Vancouver, were good friends off the field, which didn’t stop Vernon from being knocked down in the scrum. Lemon helped him back up once order was restored, and both teams returned to their dugouts. Joseph was ejected; Coates dusted himself off and kept pitching.

Seattle led by four or five runs in the middle innings when Coates ran the count to two strikes on Joseph, then threw a high, inside fastball. VANCOUVER CANADIANS 2026 / 35

The Second Brawl The trouble wasn’t over. The next Vancouver batter, left fielder Tommy Reynolds, laid down a bunt on the first pitch — an odd choice, Robson noted, that immediately raised suspicion. Reynolds pushed up the first-base line hoping to draw Coates off the mound to field it, so he could get at him. Coates stayed put. Reynolds turned halfway up the line and sprinted straight for the mound instead, and the fight was on again, benches emptying a second time. Waiting on deck for Vancouver was Santiago Rosario, a Dominican player who, like Reynolds, had come up through the Birmingham Barons. Bat still in hand, Rosario ran into the middle of the brawl. “He runs out to the brawl in the middle of the field, takes the bat with two hands over his head and hammers Ranew, the Seattle catcher, right over the head,” Robson said. “Smashes this bat right over his head.” Ranew went down, and the severity of the blow was obvious enough that the fighting stopped instantly. Rosario, stunned by what he’d done and still holding the bat, ran off the field into the Vancouver dugout.

A Fractured Skull and a Delayed Ambulance Reynolds and Joseph were both ejected, and Ranew lay on the field awaiting an ambulance while the crowd and both teams waited. Robson, still on the air, was baffled that the game wasn’t simply called. “I’m doing the broadcast and I’m saying, why are they still playing this game? It should be called off right now,” he said. “But no, we waited and waited.” Ranew was eventually taken to Vancouver General Hospital with a fractured skull. Astonishingly, the game resumed. By the bottom of the ninth, Seattle led 10–0 and Coates was working on a no-hitter with two out — broken up, at last, by a Vancouver single. It was the only hit Vancouver managed all night.

The Morning After at the Sylvia Hotel The story didn’t end at the ballpark. The next morning, the Seattle team was staying at the old Sylvia Hotel on English Bay. A man was sitting in the small lobby reading a newspaper, watching the elevator over the top of the page. “The elevator door opens and out comes four Seattle players, including the pitcher, Coates,” Robson said. “The guy with the newspaper puts it down, runs across the lobby and starts throwing punches — and it’s Ricardo Joseph.” No charges were ever filed, and Robson said nothing was ever written about the lobby altercation. But the league did act. Pacific Coast League president Dewey Soriano came to Vancouver for a hearing held in the same small press room at the ballpark where so many stories had been told over the years. Investigators played the tape of the Seattle broadcast, called by Bill Shonley — who would later become the play-by-play voice of the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers — followed by Robson’s own call of the same events from the Vancouver side. The two accounts matched. Rosario was suspended for the remainder of the season, and Joseph was fined and suspended for several games as well. Robson noted that even respected national outlets got the story wrong afterward. The Sporting News, based in St. Louis and considered the bible of baseball at the time, missed that there had been two separate brawls, and much of the coverage fixated on the no-hitter 36 / VANCOUVER CANADIANS 2026

Coates completed amid the chaos rather than the fractured skull that resulted from it. With the heaviest story behind them, the conversation turned to what makes a ballpark endure — and whether Nat Bailey Stadium, formerly Capilano Stadium, belongs in the same company as baseball’s most storied parks.

Ballparks with Character Robson has seen his share of them. In the minor leagues, he said, the old ballparks were often the center of activity in their towns. Tacoma had Ben Cheney Stadium, named for a prominent lumberman. Portland had Multnomah Stadium, where he watched Jose Vidal hit a grand slam that cost the Mounties a pennant — a ballpark Robson isn’t sure still exists. Spokane had its fairgrounds, where Robson once rode the team bus with Nat Bailey himself in the front seat during a pennant push that ultimately fell short. San Diego’s minor league park had palm trees lining the left-field fence. He’s seen the big cathedrals of the game too — Yankee Stadium, a game in Minnesota, Dodger Stadium more than once — though often in the offseason, when the parks sat empty. Wrigley Field, the last major league park to install lights, left an impression of its own. But for Robson, Nat Bailey Stadium stands apart, in part because of what the organization has built around it: an atmosphere he called special, ticket prices kept accessible, a fan base built around young families, and a steady stream of talented players passing through on their way up — he pointed to the season Toronto Blue Jays infielder Addison Barger was having as exactly the kind of story fans can brag about, having watched him play in Vancouver first. “It’s our special place. It’s our Wrigley,” came the reply from across the table. “The only thing that’s missing is the ivy.” Robson laughed at that — the sponsors lining the outfield walls, he noted, would have something to say about giving up their signage for greenery.

Seventy-Five Years From Now Asked to look 75 years down the road — further than anyone in the room would live to see — and offer a message to Vancouver baseball fans of the future, Robson was characteristically direct. “It’s almost impossible to forecast what it would be like that far down the road,” he said. “I think we’ve become sort of part of the Seattle market. So I don’t think Vancouver will be a major league city in baseball. It is in hockey, but I don’t think it will be again in basketball or baseball, because we’re sort of too close to Seattle with its television power.” He was similarly uncertain whether future fans would care much about the ballpark’s history at all. “They just enjoy the experience of being there,” he said, “and that experience has changed quite a bit” — more music, more entertainment, less of the quiet crowd he once called games in front of. Technology, he suspected, would keep reshaping it further still, to the point where he couldn’t rule out broadcasts being produced from a studio rather than a ballpark at all. Still, he came back to what hasn’t changed: the value of a living connection to the past, however uncertain its future. It was as fitting a note as any to end on — a broadcaster who had called a riot, a walkoff pennant-race home run, and the birth of his own daughter, all from the same small booths and press rooms, reflecting on a game he was never quite sure would still be played, in a ballpark he was sure would always mean something.

HOW TO SCORE A BASEBALL GAME Different fans have different methods of keeping a scorecard, and many use their own notations. But here's a simple method:

circle put the symbol of the play and/or the player that drove him in. For example, if the No. 5 hitter drives in two runs with a single, mark his single in the bottom right of his box and mark a circle with the number "5" in the boxes of the runners who score (Some people like to use uniform numbers here, so you can tell who did what, even after lineup changes).

For example, If the hitter grounds out to shortstop, for example, write in "6-3," which shows the shortstop threw him out at first base. If the hitter flies out to left field, write a "7." If the batter gets a hit, write in the hit according to which base he reached. Each corner of the box represents a base, with the lowerright corner being first.

At the end of each inning, total the hits and runs for that inning only. At the end of the game you'll be able to add the innings total to get the game score.

If he singles, put a "-" in the lower right. If he doubles, write a "=" in the upper right, and so on. For a walk, use "BB" in the lower right. As the runner advances, mark the appropriate symbol in the appropriate corner. If a runner scores, put a circle at the bottom of the box, and inside the
