A MESSAGE FROM JAKE KERR & JEFF MOONEY Welcome to Nat Bailey Stadium. This season we are celebrating 44 years of Vancouver Canadians Baseball as we welcome both you and our “Boys of Summer” back once again to historic Nat Bailey Stadium. 2022 is set to be a remarkable year in many ways. First and foremost, C’s baseball is back at The Nat for the first time since August 2019. So much has happened between now and then; the global pandemic wiped out the 2020 season and we spent all of 2021 playing away from home. There were times when we were not sure what the future would hold, but as caretakers of your professional baseball team we remain steadfast in our commitment to the ballclub, to you, the fans, and to this wonderful community. We cannot tell you just how excited and grateful we are to be back home. Through it all, we strive to create what we feel is the best sports experience not just in Vancouver, but in all of Minor League Baseball. We hope by the end of today’s game, you’ll agree with us. Team president Andy Dunn and his staff have been working tirelessly to ensure that our return to Nat Bailey Stadium gives you any number of opportunities to create new and lasting memories with your colleagues, friends, and loved ones. We have continued our important work through the Vancouver Canadians Baseball Foundation. Over 300 local children will join our program this year and we look forward to getting back out in the local community through a multitude of commitments that we proudly honour. We hope that you will continue to support our team and our community alongside us. Enjoy the game and thank you for choosing to spend your time with us. We are proud to showcase the future stars of the Toronto Blue Jays for you and hope that today is another chance for you to create a memory with us all summer long. MAJORITY OWNER, MANAGING GENERAL PARTNER Born and raised in Vancouver, Jake Kerr attended the University of British Columbia before completing his MBA in Economics and Finance at the University of California at Berkeley. A Canadian business icon, Mr. Kerr has been the recipient of the Order of Canada and Order of British Columbia for his remarkable contributions to both our country and province. Taking ownership of the Canadians back in 2007, Mr. Kerr has led the Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club to eight (8) franchise attendance records, multiple Larry McPhail Awards for excellence within the Northwest League, and Minor League Baseball’s most coveted accolade - the John H. Johnson President’s Trophy, awarded to MiLB’s most complete franchise.

ANDY DUNN

PRESIDENT Andy Dunn has been with the Vancouver Canadians since 2007, helping guide Canada's only affiliated Minor League Baseball franchise to a number of national accolades including the coveted John H. Johnson President's Trophy (2013) presented to the most complete franchise in MiLB - marking the first time in the award's 40-year history that a Canadian-based organization received the honour. Known by many in the baseball world, Andy has twice been named Florida State League Executive of the Year (1999, 2000) and also Northwest League Executive of the Year (2008), and has helped the Canadians reach new heights with 10 Northwest League awards during his tenure in Vancouver including multiple John H. Johnson & Larry MacPhail Awards

JEFF MOONEY

CO-OWNER In addition to his valuable contributions to the Vancouver Canadians, Jeff Mooney is Chairman Emeritus and a major shareholder of A&W Food Services of Canadians Inc. Today, A&W is a strategy-driven organization that has grown to over 1,000 locations across Canada. A&W has been recognized as one of the 50 Best Managed Companies in Canada for the past 10 consecutive years, and in 2008, it was honoured to become an official member of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Platinum Club. Mr. Mooney is an alumnus of both the University of Saskatchewan and Harvard University Graduate School of Business. In 2003, Mr. Mooney received Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Jubilee Medal and three years later was inducted into the Restaurant Hall of Fame(2006). In 2016, Mr. Mooney was inducted into the B.C. Business Laureates Hall of Fame and this year received the Order of Canada

TOM BACKEMEYER

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT Tom, who most recently served as the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Lancaster Jethawks 2014-2021. The Jethawks were the sister organization to the Vancouver Canadians held under the same ownership group of Jake Kerr and Jeff Mooney. The native of Lincoln, Nebraska has a vast background in Minor League Baseball as prior to his arrival in Lancaster, Backemeyer helped develop franchises in Nashville, Rancho Cucamonga, Fresno, and Everett. He is a graduate of Colorado State University (BA) with an MBA from the University of Denver.

ALLAN BAILEY

GENERAL MANAGER Allan Bailey has been with the Vancouver Canadians since 2007 and was appointed General Manager on September 5th, 2018, after spending the previous seven seasons as the organization's Assistant General Manager. Allan has led several departments during his tenure with the C's including the Nat Bailey Stadium Box Office and its ticket operations as well as his more recent efforts in Team Operations handling everything from player housing and travel right through to Information Technology (IT). Born in Victoria, B.C., and raised on the Lower Mainland's Sunshine Coast, Allan completed his education at McGill University while playing five seasons with the McGill Redbirds baseball program. Prior to university, Allan played for the NorthShore Twins of the B.C. Premier League

WALTER COSMAN

VICE PRESIDENT OF SALES & MARKETING With more than 20 years of Sales& Marketing experience here in Vancouver, Walter decided to put those skills to work in the sport he's most passionate about, baseball. With a B.A. from the University of New Brunswick, Walter has worked with Proctor & Gamble, Molson Canda, Granville Island Brewing and Steamworks Brewing. Walter was also General Manager of Petcurean leading a staff of more than70 people. With a longstanding corporate partnership with the Canadians prior to his arrival in May of 2019, Walter joins our club fully aware of the standard that has put the C's among the best in Minor League Baseball

STEVEN MAISEY

MANAGER OF TICKETING OPERATIONS Steven enters his third season with the Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club, and his first as Manager of Ticket Operations. After graduating from Langara College with a diploma in Recreation Leadership Management, and interning for the Vancouver Whitecaps, Steven began his career with the Canadians on the operations side of the club, spending the two seasons (2018 – 19) as a member of the A&B Tools Rental Grounds Crew. Steven transitioned into his current role as Manager of Ticket Operations in January 2020, and looks to maintain the service standards that fans have come to expect of the Canadians. In the offseason, Steven volunteers his time as a skills coach for the Vancouver Thunderbirds Minor Hockey. 10 / VANCOUVER CANADIANS 2022

STEPHANI ELLIS

ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER Returning for her seventh season with the Vancouver Canadians Stephani handles a wide variety of key organizational elements including Group Sales as well as the C's social media platforms. She was promoted to Assistant General Manager role prior to the 2019 season and was the recipient of the 2019 Northwest League Female Executive of the Year for her work with the C's. After a standout collegiate softball career at California University of PA where Stephani played for the Vulcans and was named a Regional All-American, the Prince of Wales Secondary graduate and former Team BC member began her marketing career with the Canadians. Stephani works in concert with group leaders who expect the Canadians to provide an excellent ballpark experience with each visit out at Nat Bailey Stadium.

BRENDA CHMILIAR

FINANCIAL CONTROLLER Brenda is entering her 15th season out at Nat Bailey Stadium but her second as Financial Controller for the Vancouver Canadians. She spent the first 10 years with Aramark Food Services in the company's financial division, dividing her time between at Nat Bailey Stadium and Rogers Arena. Brenda is responsible for all aspects of the Vancouver Canadians financial operations. She is right at home here at Nat Bailey Stadium, as much of her childhood was spent playing baseball on the local fields in Kamloops

CHARLENE YAROSHUK

ACCOUNTING COORDINATOR Charlene is excited to be entering her 4th season with the Vancouver Canadians as their Accounting Coordinator. In 2020 she graduated from Kwantlen Polytechnic University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. Growing up in the Vancouver area she spent most of her free time practicing martial arts and currently has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

TYLER ZICKEL

MANAGER OF BROADCASTING & MEDIA RELATIONS Tyler joined the Canadians in 2021 for his fourth season in the Blue Jays organization and seventh in MiLB. Before the C's, Tyler served as the Director of Promotions & Entertainment and Road Radio Broadcaster for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Over the course of three seasons in Manchester, he oversaw the entire in-game presentation and promotions departments while traveling throughout the Eastern League calling 'Cats games. He began his MiLB career in 2014 as a communications intern for the Advanced-A Lake Elsinore Storm in Southern California and was promoted twice in three years. As Assistant Director of Marketing and Director of Digital Content, respectively, Tyler was heavily involved in growing the team's online presence.

CHARLES O'NEILL

MANAGER OF STADIUM OPERATIONS Charles joins the Canadians in 2022 after working for a variety for baseball clubs including the Long Island Ducks, and the New York Mets. He brings a wealth of knowledge from his prior experiences to Nat Bailey Stadium. He previously completed his Bachelors of Sports Management from Farmingdale State College in New York.

He earned his B.A. in English from Whittier College in Los Angeles, where he played on the Poets baseball team and was elected Student Body President.

KENDRA CHIN

MARKETING COORDINATOR Kendra joins the C’s Marketing department for her first full season of baseball. She has recently completed a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with specialization in Marketing and Human Resource Management. Prior to joining the team at The Nat, she worked for several years in the health & fitness industry. Her goal is to intertwine her passion for sports with her business background. In her spare time, she is coaching basketball to inner city kids. This Vancouverite also likes spending her free time playing basketball, tennis, golf, and skiing.

LEVI WEBSTER

HEAD GROUNDSKEEPER Levi is no stranger to the Northwest League, with prior experience with the Spokane Indians as their Head Groundskeeper at Avista Stadium. His talents have also allowed him to be the field manager for the Los Angeles Dodgers at the Spring Training Facility in Arizona. The Colton, WA native graduated from Washington State University with a Double Major in Turfgrass Management and Fruit and Vegetable Management and two minors in Horticulture and Agricultural Systems. In his time away from the ballpark, you can find him on the golf course, weight training or enjoying time with family and friends.

Joining the club for the 2016 season, Jacob began his time with the C’s in the Box Office, first as a Ticket Sales Representative, then as Box Office Assistant, with his transition to sales coming at the conclusion of the 2021 season.

After graduating from Brock University in St. Catharines ON with a degree in Sport Management, Owen completed an internship for a local athlete representation company doing sales and marketing prior to the start of the

Jacob graduated from the Edwards School of Business at the University of Saskatchewan in 2021 with a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance. When Jacob’s away from the Nat, you can find him watching Blue Jays baseball, Seahawks football, or, if he’s lucky, ice fishing in Saskatchewan.

SALES ASSOCIATE Owen enters his first season with the Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club as a Sales Associate.

He brings a great deal of passion for sports and customer service to the team. In his spare time, Owen loves reading books, working out, and spending his summertime at Kitsilano Beach, a 5 min walk from his apartment.

LANE DEPLAEDT

SALES ASSOCIATE Cooper is a former Langley Blaze pitcher, took his talents south of the border to play for both Galveston College and at Central Washington University. He graduated from CWU with a Sports Management degree with a specialization in Business. Prior to joining the Canadians, he was a member of the Ground Crew at Northview Golf & Country Club.

SALES ASSOCIATE Lane joins the C’s for his first season in Minor League Baseball after recently working with the Coquitlam Express Junior A Hockey Club in Game Day Operations. He is recently graduated from Thompson Rivers University with a bachelor’s or Business Administration with a Major in Marketing.

While away from the ballpark he enjoys spending time in his hometown of Port Moody or playing golf.

PK MORRIS NAMED NORTHWEST LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

PK Morris hit 9-for-20 (.450) with seven RBI, two homers – including walk-off – earn him the honor Minor League Baseball has recognized Vancouver Canadians first baseman PK Morris as the Northwest League Player of the Week for May 2 to May 8. He is the first C’s hitter to earn the honor and the third Canadians player to be highlighted at the top of their position, joining pitchers Chad Dallas and Trent Palmer as league award winners for the Canadians this season. Morris was the engine in Vancouver’s offense last week in their series split with Everett. He went 9-for20 (.450) with two home runs, three doubles, four runs scored, seven RBI and five walks in six games played. The Tampa, FL native logged multiple hits in four showings, including the first two-homer day by a Canadian this season on May 6 that was capped by a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth. “That last at-bat I was just looking for a heater out over the plate and lucky enough I got one and was able to put a good swing on it,” Morris said after his game-winning blast. “I tried not to think about [my earlier homer] but the thoughts pop into your head, I’m human. I was just glad I was able to come up big for the team.” As of this writing, Morris is among Northwest League leaders in average (.289, 10), home runs (3, T-9), RBI (20, 2), on-base percentage (.387, 5), slugging (.526, 3), OPS (.913, 3), hits (22, T-10), doubles (7, T-3), extra-base hits (11, T-2) and total bases (39, 7). Morris, 23, was Toronto’s 14th-round pick (429th overall) in 2017 out of Steinbrenner High School. He has steadily risen through the Blue Jays minor league ranks and hit .240 across two levels in his first full pro season last year. Morris slashed .251/.407/.412/.819 with nine homers, 21 doubles, two triples, 58 runs scored and 57 RBI in 100 games with Single-A Dunedin before he was promoted to Vancouver for the last week of the season. HOW TO SCORE A BASEBALL GAME Different fans have different methods of keeping a scorecard, and many use their own notations. But here's a simple method:

If a runner scores, put a circle at the bottom of the box, and inside the circle put the symbol of the play and/or the player that drove him in. For example, if the No. 5 hitter drives in two runs with a single, mark his single in the bottom right of his box and mark a circle with the number "5" in the boxes of the runners who score (Some people like to use uniform numbers here, so you can tell who did what, even after lineup changes).

For example, If the hitter grounds out to shortstop, for example, write in "6-3," which shows the shortstop threw him out at first base. If the hitter flies out to left field, write a "7." If the batter gets a hit, write in the hit according to which base he reached. Each corner of the box represents a base, with the lowerright corner being first.

At the end of each inning, total the hits and runs for that inning only. At the end of the game you'll be able to add the innings total to get the game score.

If he singles, put a "-" in the lower right. If he doubles, write a "=" in the upper right, and so on. For a walk, use "BB" in the lower right. As the runner advances, mark the appropriate symbol in the appropriate corner.

Each week, we’ll feature a conversation between Niall O’Donohoe of C’s Plus Baseball and one member of the Canadians roster. Niall caught up with starting pitcher Trent Palmer on Media Day to learn more about Toronto’s #23 prospect and his journey to The Nat.

C’S CHAT: TRENT PALMER The righthander from Anoka, Minnesota—who just turned 23 on April 2—was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the third round of the 2020 draft, going 77th overall from Jacksonville University. He received a signing bonus of $847,500, just above the slot value of $805,600. Signed by scout Matt O’Brien, Palmer became a fulltime starter with the Dolphins that year and won two Atlantic Sun Conference pitcher of the week awards on back-to-back weeks March 2 and 9. His final start in college was a masterpiece as he spun a complete game three-hitter against Illinois, striking out 13. Palmer won two of three decisions during the COVID-shortened campaign, recording an earned run average of 1.30 with a 41-7 strikeout-walk total in 27-2/3 innings as the Friday starter. The springboard to Palmer’s successful 2020 season was a strong showing in summer collegiate ball with Wareham in the Cape Cod League where he had a 1.45 ERA in 18.2 innings with a K-BB total of 21-8.. According to Baseball America, he had hit 97 miles per hour on the radar gun at the Cape. The 6-foot-1, 230-pound hurler began his three-year tenure with Jacksonville as a reliever where his 2.86 ERA and 47 strikeouts over 44 frames landed him a spot on the 2018 ASUN AllFreshman Team. The 2019 season saw him log nine starts over 21 appearances, posting a 4.70 ERA with 70 strikeouts and 30 walks over 61-1/3 innings. The four-year letterwinner at Anoka High School in Minnesota headed to Dunedin to pitch in instructs in 2020 before making his debut with the Dunedin Blue Jays in 2021. Palmer pitched three no-hit innings in his first professional appearance against Bradenton June 2. He had a 7.15 ERA at the end of that month but he would whittle it down to 4.07 at the end of July. His first win came August 4 in Fort Myers when he gave up just one run on two hits while striking out seven over five innings. He would outmuscle the Mighty Mussels August 19 when he pitched a seven-inning nohitter, punching out 10 men that day in Dunedin. Palmer would throw one more seven-inning no-hitter against Clearwater in his final start of the year September 15. He finished the year with four wins and two loss, compiling an ERA of 3.00 and a K-BB mark of 83-42 in 63 innings. C’s Plus Baseball was able to talk to Palmer at the Canadians Media Day earlier this month and says he’s looking forward to performing on the mound at Nat Bailey Stadium.

“Yeah, it’s pretty exciting. Everyone in the org kind of talked about being in Vancouver and how great the atmosphere is and just the city as a whole, so it’s pretty exciting. I heard it’s electric, sold out, the fans are like they’re in it just like our team. I hope to give them a good show. I think it should be a good time. I’m just ready to get back out and compete in like a full game setting, it would be nice.” Palmer was pleased with how his offseason went. “I had a good offseason, worked on a couple of things that I had struggles with last year so hopefully it goes as planned. The biggest thing was just getting back in the zone more consistently and being able to use a four-seam. I’m a pretty heavy sinker guy, so having the four-seam will benefit me against lefties, so hopefully it works as it has been in spring training.” There was one pitch of his four-pitch arsenal that drew extra focus from Palmer. “It’s going to be a four-seam, a sinker, a slider, and then a changeup, I’d say I probably used the changeup the most, just have a lot of like feel for it. (It’s) a pretty good pitch so I just kind of try and ride it when I’m struggling a little bit.” Palmer credits the improvement of his change-of-pace offering and his development as a pitcher to his pitching coach in Dunedin. “I think me and Drew Hayes. Right after I was drafted, we kinda found it out of nowhere. We were just playing catch randomly one day and it kind of just stuck. He was a huge help. He not only helped me like understand how to pitch more but he’s just like the one guy that was always there. Like no matter how good or bad the outing was, he was always going to find a way to kind of get to me and figure out how to make me a better pitcher week-to-week.” The Blue Jays start-of-the-art minor league complex in Dunedin has also proven beneficial to Palmer “It’s next level for sure, I mean, every piece of technology that you can get as a pitcher, it’s in that building. It’s nice to be able to see if anything’s a little off. Maybe how you’re landing, whatever it may be, it’ll pick it up instantly. I think the biggest thing is just getting pitches more consistent and not only feeling it, you can see it every day because there’s cameras on you at all times. Every bullpen, every time you throw in a game, there’s all these cameras. All these people logging what you’re doing.”

After a tough start, Palmer was glad to finish up the season strong in Dunedin thanks to his two seven-inning no-hitters. “I think it made it better just because at the beginning of the season, I was off to a slow start and just seeing like all the work that you put in throughout the season with the pitching coaches and the catchers. It’s pretty nice to have, like the kind of reward of putting in the time and putting in the work to get kind of dialed in and it paid off so It was a blast.” Palmer and his fellow Dunedin pitchers had to deal with an automated ball-strike system at home plate instead of the umpire making the calls. It was not something that Palmer relished. “I think at the beginning of the year, the strike zone was kind of shrunk width-wise, but it gave you more vertically. It didn’t really help me much because I pitch more of the horizontal way. But I think the second half of the year, once it went back to more of like your traditional high school zone and college zone where you got a little bit off the edges but they weren’t going to give you up and down as much. I think the hitters and pitchers both like that a little bit more, but it was definitely an interesting transition to throw to a zone. I mean, it was nice because it was consistent, but it also had its flaws. Like you throw a couple pitches in the zone, it would be a ball and then you throw a ball three-four balls off and somehow, it would give you strike. It’s just inconsistent, but I think it’s fine. I’m not a huge fan of it.” Palmer says there is one key lesson he learned during his first year as a pro. “It’s just kind of get ahead and stay ahead (in the count). But I mean in pro ball, you finally realize how important it is because there’s really no gap in the lineup. It’s one through nine can hurt you. if it’s not with home runs, they’re going to hit a single and steal second and steal third. So I think it’s just getting ahead, staying ahead and putting guys away when you can.” One thing Palmer prides himself on is his demeanour on the mound. “I’d say I’m pretty calm. I mean, in big situations, I get worked up like a big punchout or something. The energy will kind of come out, but otherwise I try and stay as even keel as I can.” Now into his second year as a pro, Palmer admits it was surreal to be drafted. “It was a very exciting feeling. I think the biggest thing was it never really sunk in until I finally got to spring training the following 34 / VANCOUVER CANADIANS 2022

year because we didn’t get to play that that year and never got to experience that season. So I think it took a little bit longer to finally set in, but once it did, it made it that much better.” Though Palmer was not sure about if he was on the Blue Jays radar leading up to the 2020 draft, he’s glad to be a member of Canada’s Team. “I think at the time I didn’t really think that but now, like I look back on it and the calls I had, It kind of makes sense. But at the time, it was a pretty hectic situation. You had COVID going on. You had a little bit of everything, so calls and everything just kind of hit you pretty quick, but I think looking back I’m like I could see how like it was coming, but I’m blessed to be with the Blue Jays. I mean I’ve heard stuff about other orgs and we just don’t have those problems here.” Pitching at Jacksonville University for three seasons helped Palmer develop as a pitcher. “I think the biggest thing was every year we had we had an arm that was very advanced. So every year you could learn from it. The guys that were there prior, you learn from them. I mean, we have big league bats that when they’d face you and live hitters, they’d give you the information right away and what they’re seeing and ways that it could be better, so it was pretty beneficial to me and just being able to throw outside everyday coming from Minnesota, it’s nice to be able to go outside and just be able to play catch instead of in a dome.” Pitching in the cooler weather in Vancouver is something Palmer is not worried about. “I’m actually more excited to throw in this type of weather than I am in the steaming hot. Just coming from Minnesota, you have this colder weather for your first, I don’t know, five-to-10 starts. I think getting back into it, it’s kind of takes you back a little bit to where you grew up and playing, but I’m excited to be in Vancouver.” Palmer’s goals for 2022 are to improve and enjoy the season. “I think the biggest thing is just get ahead, stay ahead, pound the strike zone, try and keep as many guys off base. The biggest thing is just have fun. We’ve got a fun team here so I don’t think there will be any problems with having fun. FORMER C’S – WHERE ARE THEY NOW? It’s not often that a journeyman minor leaguer gets a shot at his big-league dreams after almost a decade in the minors, but former Canadian Jon Berti got that shot. The pride of Troy, MI has traveled a long and winding road since making his pro debut at Nat Bailey Stadium on June 18, 2011. That day, Berti went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored, the first of 777 career Minor League hits in 3,007 at-bats. Toronto’s 18th round pick in the 2011 draft, Berti finished his 60-game sprint with the Canadians as a .291 hitter and stole 23 bases to help Vancouver capture their first of three consecutive Northwest League titles.

Berti would steadily ascend through the Blue Jays minor league ranks. He split 2012 between Low-A Lansing and High-A Dunedin, spent all of 2013 with the D-Jays then turned in a career year with Double-A New Hampshire in 2014 when he hit .270, cracked seven homers, stole 40 bases and collected 202 total bases. He shuttled between Double-A and Triple-A from 2015 to 2018, including a stint with former C’s manager John Schneider in New Hampshire to help spur the Fisher Cats to an Eastern League title – he hit .314 in 72 regular season games then led New Hampshire to a 6-0 postseason record. He got a longoverdue call-up after the ‘Cats raised the trophy and made his MLB debut with the Blue Jays on September 26, 2018. He logged his first big league hit in that game and finished the season with four hits in 15 at-bats. The former Bowling Green State star elected free agency after the 2018 season and signed with the Miami Marlins on December 3, 2018. He played 22 games with the Triple-A New Orleans Baby Cakes before he joined the Marlins on April 20 and has been in the Major Leagues ever since. Berti is off to a terrific start to 2022. He’s batting .300 (12-for-40) in 17 games this year, has homered twice, gets on base over 40% of the time and has walked almost as much as he has K’d. “Birdman” has slashed .250/.347/.373/.720 in his big-league career with 32 doubles, four triples and 14 homers.
