A MESSAGE FROM JAKE KERR & JEFF MOONEY Welcome to Nat Bailey Stadium. This season we are celebrating 44 years of Vancouver Canadians Baseball as we welcome both you and our “Boys of Summer” back once again to historic Nat Bailey Stadium. 2022 is set to be a remarkable year in many ways. First and foremost, C’s baseball is back at The Nat for the first time since August 2019. So much has happened between now and then; the global pandemic wiped out the 2020 season and we spent all of 2021 playing away from home. There were times when we were not sure what the future would hold, but as caretakers of your professional baseball team we remain steadfast in our commitment to the ballclub, to you, the fans, and to this wonderful community. We cannot tell you just how excited and grateful we are to be back home. Through it all, we strive to create what we feel is the best sports experience not just in Vancouver, but in all of Minor League Baseball. We hope by the end of today’s game, you’ll agree with us. Team president Andy Dunn and his staff have been working tirelessly to ensure that our return to Nat Bailey Stadium gives you any number of opportunities to create new and lasting memories with your colleagues, friends, and loved ones. We have continued our important work through the Vancouver Canadians Baseball Foundation. Over 300 local children will join our program this year and we look forward to getting back out in the local community through a multitude of commitments that we proudly honour. We hope that you will continue to support our team and our community alongside us. Enjoy the game and thank you for choosing to spend your time with us. We are proud to showcase the future stars of the Toronto Blue Jays for you and hope that today is another chance for you to create a memory with us all summer long. FRONT OFFICE STAFF JAKE KERR

MAJORITY OWNER, MANAGING GENERAL PARTNER Born and raised in Vancouver, Jake Kerr attended the University of British Columbia before completing his MBA in Economics and Finance at the University of California at Berkeley. A Canadian business icon, Mr. Kerr has been the recipient of the Order of Canada and Order of British Columbia for his remarkable contributions to both our country and province. Taking ownership of the Canadians back in 2007, Mr. Kerr has led the Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club to eight (8) franchise attendance records, multiple Larry McPhail Awards for excellence within the Northwest League, and Minor League Baseball’s most coveted accolade - the John H. Johnson President’s Trophy, awarded to MiLB’s most complete franchise.

ANDY DUNN

PRESIDENT Andy Dunn has been with the Vancouver Canadians since 2007, helping guide Canada's only affiliated Minor League Baseball franchise to a number of national accolades including the coveted John H. Johnson President's Trophy (2013) presented to the most complete franchise in MiLB - marking the first time in the award's 40-year history that a Canadian-based organization received the honour. Known by many in the baseball world, Andy has twice been named Florida State League Executive of the Year (1999, 2000) and also Northwest League Executive of the Year (2008), and has helped the Canadians reach new heights with 10 Northwest League awards during his tenure in Vancouver including multiple John H. Johnson & Larry MacPhail Awards

JEFF MOONEY

CO-OWNER In addition to his valuable contributions to the Vancouver Canadians, Jeff Mooney is Chairman Emeritus and a major shareholder of A&W Food Services of Canadians Inc. Today, A&W is a strategy-driven organization that has grown to over 1,000 locations across Canada. A&W has been recognized as one of the 50 Best Managed Companies in Canada for the past 10 consecutive years, and in 2008, it was honoured to become an official member of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Platinum Club. Mr. Mooney is an alumnus of both the University of Saskatchewan and Harvard University Graduate School of Business. In 2003, Mr. Mooney received Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Jubilee Medal and three years later was inducted into the Restaurant Hall of Fame(2006). In 2016, Mr. Mooney was inducted into the B.C. Business Laureates Hall of Fame and this year received the Order of Canada

TOM BACKEMEYER

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT Tom, who most recently served as the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Lancaster Jethawks 2014-2021. The Jethawks were the sister organization to the Vancouver Canadians held under the same ownership group of Jake Kerr and Jeff Mooney. The native of Lincoln, Nebraska has a vast background in Minor League Baseball as prior to his arrival in Lancaster, Backemeyer helped develop franchises in Nashville, Rancho Cucamonga, Fresno, and Everett. He is a graduate of Colorado State University (BA) with an MBA from the University of Denver.

ALLAN BAILEY

GENERAL MANAGER Allan Bailey has been with the Vancouver Canadians since 2007 and was appointed General Manager on September 5th, 2018, after spending the previous seven seasons as the organization's Assistant General Manager. Allan has led several departments during his tenure with the C's including the Nat Bailey Stadium Box Office and its ticket operations as well as his more recent efforts in Team Operations handling everything from player housing and travel right through to Information Technology (IT). Born in Victoria, B.C., and raised on the Lower Mainland's Sunshine Coast, Allan completed his education at McGill University while playing five seasons with the McGill Redbirds baseball program. Prior to university, Allan played for the NorthShore Twins of the B.C. Premier League

WALTER COSMAN

VICE PRESIDENT OF SALES & MARKETING With more than 20 years of Sales& Marketing experience here in Vancouver, Walter decided to put those skills to work in the sport he's most passionate about, baseball. With a B.A. from the University of New Brunswick, Walter has worked with Proctor & Gamble, Molson Canda, Granville Island Brewing and Steamworks Brewing. Walter was also General Manager of Petcurean leading a staff of more than70 people. With a longstanding corporate partnership with the Canadians prior to his arrival in May of 2019, Walter joins our club fully aware of the standard that has put the C's among the best in Minor League Baseball

STEVEN MAISEY

MANAGER OF TICKETING OPERATIONS Steven enters his third season with the Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club, and his first as Manager of Ticket Operations. After graduating from Langara College with a diploma in Recreation Leadership Management, and interning for the Vancouver Whitecaps, Steven began his career with the Canadians on the operations side of the club, spending the two seasons (2018 – 19) as a member of the A&B Tools Rental Grounds Crew. Steven transitioned into his current role as Manager of Ticket Operations in January 2020, and looks to maintain the service standards that fans have come to expect of the Canadians. In the offseason, Steven volunteers his time as a skills coach for the Vancouver Thunderbirds Minor Hockey. 10 / VANCOUVER CANADIANS 2022

STEPHANI ELLIS

ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER Returning for her seventh season with the Vancouver Canadians Stephani handles a wide variety of key organizational elements including Group Sales as well as the C's social media platforms. She was promoted to Assistant General Manager role prior to the 2019 season and was the recipient of the 2019 Northwest League Female Executive of the Year for her work with the C's. After a standout collegiate softball career at California University of PA where Stephani played for the Vulcans and was named a Regional All-American, the Prince of Wales Secondary graduate and former Team BC member began her marketing career with the Canadians. Stephani works in concert with group leaders who expect the Canadians to provide an excellent ballpark experience with each visit out at Nat Bailey Stadium.

BRENDA CHMILIAR

FINANCIAL CONTROLLER Brenda is entering her 15th season out at Nat Bailey Stadium but her second as Financial Controller for the Vancouver Canadians. She spent the first 10 years with Aramark Food Services in the company's financial division, dividing her time between at Nat Bailey Stadium and Rogers Arena. Brenda is responsible for all aspects of the Vancouver Canadians financial operations. She is right at home here at Nat Bailey Stadium, as much of her childhood was spent playing baseball on the local fields in Kamloops

CHARLENE YAROSHUK

ACCOUNTING COORDINATOR Charlene is excited to be entering her 4th season with the Vancouver Canadians as their Accounting Coordinator. In 2020 she graduated from Kwantlen Polytechnic University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. Growing up in the Vancouver area she spent most of her free time practicing martial arts and currently has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

TYLER ZICKEL

MANAGER OF BROADCASTING & MEDIA RELATIONS Tyler joined the Canadians in 2021 for his fourth season in the Blue Jays organization and seventh in MiLB. Before the C's, Tyler served as the Director of Promotions & Entertainment and Road Radio Broadcaster for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Over the course of three seasons in Manchester, he oversaw the entire in-game presentation and promotions departments while traveling throughout the Eastern League calling 'Cats games. He began his MiLB career in 2014 as a communications intern for the Advanced-A Lake Elsinore Storm in Southern California and was promoted twice in three years. As Assistant Director of Marketing and Director of Digital Content, respectively, Tyler was heavily involved in growing the team's online presence.

CHARLES O'NEILL

MANAGER OF STADIUM OPERATIONS Charles joins the Canadians in 2022 after working for a variety for baseball clubs including the Long Island Ducks, and the New York Mets. He brings a wealth of knowledge from his prior experiences to Nat Bailey Stadium. He previously completed his Bachelors of Sports Management from Farmingdale State College in New York.

He earned his B.A. in English from Whittier College in Los Angeles, where he played on the Poets baseball team and was elected Student Body President.

KENDRA CHIN

MARKETING COORDINATOR Kendra joins the C’s Marketing department for her first full season of baseball. She has recently completed a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with specialization in Marketing and Human Resource Management. Prior to joining the team at The Nat, she worked for several years in the health & fitness industry. Her goal is to intertwine my passion for sports with her business background. In her spare time, she is coaching basketball to inner city kids. This Vancouverite also likes spending my free time playing basketball, tennis, golf, and skiing.

LEVI WEBSTER

HEAD GROUNDSKEEPER Levi is no stranger to the Northwest League, with prior experience with the Spokane Indians as their Head Groundskeeper at Avista Stadium. His talents have also allowed him to be the field manager for the Los Angeles Dodgers at the Spring Training Facility in Arizona. The Colton, WA native graduated from Washington State University with a Double Major in Turfgrass Management and Fruit and Vegetable Management and two minors in Horticulture and Agricultural Systems. In his time away from the ballpark, you can find him on the golf course, weight training or enjoying time with family and friends.

OWEN SCURALLI

Joining the club for the 2016 season, Jacob began his time with the C’s in the Box Office, first as a Ticket Sales Representative, then as Box Office Assistant, with his transition to sales coming at the conclusion of the 2021 season.

After graduating from Brock University in St. Catharines ON with a degree in Sport Management, Owen completed an internship for a local athlete representation company doing sales and marketing prior to the start of the

Jacob graduated from the Edwards School of Business at the University of Saskatchewan in 2021 with a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance. When Jacob’s away from the Nat, you can find him watching Blue Jays baseball, Seahawks football, or, if he’s lucky, ice fishing in Saskatchewan.

SALES ASSOCIATE Owen enters his first season with the Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club as a Sales Associate.

He brings a great deal of passion for sports and customer service to the team. In his spare time, Owen loves reading books, working out, and spending his summertime at Kitsilano Beach, a 5 min walk from his apartment.

LANE DEPLAEDT

SALES ASSOCIATE Cooper is a former Langley Blaze pitcher, took his talents south of the border to play for both Galveston College and at Central Washington University. He graduated from CWU with a Sports Management degree with a specialization in Business. Prior to joining the Canadians, he was a member of the Ground Crew at Northview Golf & Country Club.

SALES ASSOCIATE Lane joins the C’s for his first season in Minor League Baseball after recently working with the Coquitlam Express Junior A Hockey Club in Game Day Operations. He is recently graduated from Thompson Rivers University with a bachelor’s or Business Administration with a Major in Marketing.

While away from the ballpark he enjoys spending time in his hometown of Port Moody or playing golf.

HOW TO SCORE A BASEBALL GAME Different fans have different methods of keeping a scorecard, and many use their own notations. But here's a simple method:

If a runner scores, put a circle at the bottom of the box, and inside the circle put the symbol of the play and/or the player that drove him in. For example, if the No. 5 hitter drives in two runs with a single, mark his single in the bottom right of his box and mark a circle with the number "5" in the boxes of the runners who score (Some people like to use uniform numbers here, so you can tell who did what, even after lineup changes).

For example, If the hitter grounds out to shortstop, for example, write in "6-3," which shows the shortstop threw him out at first base. If the hitter flies out to left field, write a "7." If the batter gets a hit, write in the hit according to which base he reached. Each corner of the box represents a base, with the lowerright corner being first.

At the end of each inning, total the hits and runs for that inning only. At the end of the game you'll be able to add the innings total to get the game score.

If he singles, put a "-" in the lower right. If he doubles, write a "=" in the upper right, and so on. For a walk, use "BB" in the lower right. As the runner advances, mark the appropriate symbol in the appropriate corner.

From the stands at The Nat to the dugout, North Delta's own returns home

BRENT LAVALLEE READY TO C’S THE DAY When C’s manager Brent Lavallee delivers the lineup card at Nat Bailey Stadium on April 19, his path from the top step of the dugout to home plate will complete the last part of a circle whose starting point began three decades ago in North Delta, BC. The former North Delta Blue Jay flew south to Louisiana State University Shreveport, where he roosted for 15 years as a player, then a coach, then a manager at the center of the Pilots baseball program. Two years after the start to his professional managerial career was aborted – he was set to skipper the C’s in 2020 – he has returned to the place where his love for baseball took root. As a boy, Lavallee would come to games at The Nat with is family. Now, it’s his family coming to The Nat to watch him.

Canadians: Before we get into it, we have to talk about your mom Tammy. She’s on her way to becoming the number one C’s fan! Brent Lavallee: [Laughs] You’d be hard pressed to find a runnerup for that one. She’s a baseball woman. She loves it. She’s always trying to get the inside scoop as to who’s coming up there. She’s always really excited for the season, even without me, so me being the manager is the icing on top. C’s: 2022 is your first season managing a full season club after 54 games at the helm for the Florida Complex League Blue Jays last year. What are some of the changes you’ve been preparing for? BL: It’s going to be a fun challenge. You’re going from having 50 to 60 players working on fundamentals every day then competing [in limited action], and now you’re working with guys who have been in the system for a couple years and are competing to win every night. These kids are not too far away from the big leagues. It’s a little different in that regard, but I’m not apprehensive about anything. There are going to be some challenges with the

[extended] family being there early on, so I’m focused on doing my job well and getting better every day. C’s: What’s your coaching philosophy? BL: My philosophy is "play to everyone’s strengths." Every guy isn’t going to bang the ball around, every guy isn’t going to steal 40 bases, so my philosophy is to let the player be himself and not force him to fit a mold he doesn’t fit. Let the bangers bang and let the runners run. [Laughs] I like to let the players be who they are and make their own mold for what they want their career to be. They can’t all be one type of player, and I want to encourage them to fit their own mold and not be someone they're not. C’s: We’re talking about a week before the Blue Jays announce our Opening Day roster. Can you give us any hints as to who might break camp with the Canadians? BL: Our organization is filled with talented position players at this level and in Double-A, so I think we’ll be seeing a few very high level position players, maybe even a group of really talented infielders coming here to start. There is really good depth behind the plate with some young catchers too. I think the [roster’s] strength starting out will be the position players, but that’s really just because there’s a lot of competing going on for Double-A spots among the pitchers right now so we don’t yet know where the chips are going to fall. We should have quite a bit of talent to start the season and if we’re doing our jobs well and developing, the hope is to have a completely different roster from the beginning to the end of the season. I definitely think as coaches, we’re going to be spoiled up in Vancouver. It’s a good problem to have. Even after the start and once we move these guys on, I’m very confident in the guys coming behind them from Dunedin. VANCOUVER CANADIANS 2022 / 31

C’s: Who are some of the people that shaped you as a player, coach and manager? BL: I look up to everyone I compete against and look across the field at as managers and leaders of people. Everyone has so many different backgrounds and experiences levels that if we aren’t learning from each other, I think we’re missing a lot. I have a wide lens; I look up to and take bits and pieces from everyone I see on the field. My college coach Rocke Musgraves had a huge impact on me and I still talk to him quite a bit. Ari Mellios, the high school coach I played for, he's responsible for Jeff Francis, Justin Morneau, a lot of names that made it pretty far and were very successful. Countless college coaches, a lot of whom I played against and have bounced ideas off. It’s a fraternity of people you trust and have gotten to know and compete against. My parents of course. And in our org? Charlie Montoyo. He spent so many years in the minor leagues – over a decade – and had the perseverance to stay with it. [2019 C’s manager] Casey Candaele, he’s our “coaches coach” and our guy to go to. [2018 C’s manager] Dallas McPherson. The previous two C’s managers are huge mentors of mine. I’ve picked their brains about their experiences up there. C’s: As a younger manager, what’s your relationship with the players like and how do you keep guys who don’t see the field every day motivated to get better? BL: I treat every player the same, regardless of what their prospect ranking might be or what their role is. Every player is trying to get better. You have to coach your best player the same way you coach the last guy on the roster. If you do that, you’re giving your players all the means necessary to improve. Players know they can trust you when you trust them. It’s important to be clear about their roles and expectations and give them the attention they deserve; that’s all our work every day. If you’re up front, your roles and expectations for each player are clear, you give each guy his due and the time they need to get the work done then I think it’s easier for guys to understand why they’re not on the field as much as some others. C’s: You’ll have nine people on your staff this season. With a group that large, how do you keep everyone on the same page? BL: It boils down to trust and communication, and the fact that I’m surrounded by professionals. Everyone might have different

opinions on something, but that’s probably to our advantage. Allowing your people to do their jobs and trusting that everyone – again, all pros in their field – can do their respective jobs. Give them the means to do their jobs then just let them do it. As far as managing people, you have to make sure they respect each other and be mindful of everyone’s lanes/responsibilities. When you’re surrounded by pros it’s easier to let them do their job and keep things flowing towards the same goal. That’s through and through with the Blue Jays. Whether you’re Triple-A staff or DSL staff, we are all driving towards the same goal. [Toronto] Leadership has done a great job bringing everyone in and making our objective clear to us. Everyone’s pulling the rope in the same direction, even though we’re doing it from different areas. It’s a pretty cool feeling to sit in staff meetings and see the many different areas of expertise that are pulling the same way for the players and the organization. Everything we are trying to do is built to last and sustain. We have a lot of things rolling in the right direction. C’s: Tell us a little about your thoughts on where baseball in Canada has come from and where the sport is headed here. BL: There is a ton of support. It goes back to the parents, Little League, minor baseball associations, they’re all doing a great job. That’s a credit to why I kept playing. I’m at this point in my career because of my family and the community I grew up in. The baseball seasons were always so memorable, and what they do really well is develop young players. You have the Baseball Canada Cup with the top players from every province at 13 years old, though I never made the teams because I wasn’t good enough [laughs]. Growing up in BC, you have the BCPBL, which is a tremendous league, and players grow from there. It’s a cool path to see. We don’t have as many people playing the game but that doesn’t mean Canadian baseball players can’t compete with anyone on the planet. Francis, Morneau, Larry Walker, those guys have shown that Canada can compete with anyone. They love the game, and they paved the way for a lot of us. You see the classes before you and all they did, you strive to be like those guys when you’re coming up. The game is growing and it’s in good hands with the people up here. Lavallee, his staff and the 2022 Canadians Opening Day roster will start the season on April 8 in Spokane then travel to Pasco, WA to take on Tri-City before returning to Vancouver for the C’s home opener on Tuesday, April 19.

A total of 59 players wore the red, white, black, gold and silver for the Vancouver Canadians in 2021. That’s up from the 41 players who played for Monty’s Mounties in 2019 back in the old days of short-season baseball in the Northwest League and no pandemic to worry about. A total of 34 pitchers took to the mound for the C’s in 2021 along with 25 position players. • Spencer Horwitz played in 105 of 119 games, the most of any player on the roster. Anthony Morales and Harry Ray each played in four games, the fewest. • Justin Maese appeared in 33 games, the most of any pitcher on the roster. Troy Watson and Luke Gillingham each appeared in one game, the fewest. • The average age of the 2021 C’s was 23 years old. • C’s players hailed from 18 different U.S. states (led by California and Texas, who both provided seven native sons), seven countries and territories (United States [39], Dominican Republic [7], Canada [4], Venezuela [2], Cuba [2], Mexico [2] Puerto Rico [2], Netherlands [1]) and three provinces (British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario).
