FOR EARLY ARRIVALS
Onsdag | Wednesday | May 3 Council members arrive throughout the day and check in at Manon Les Suites hotel. For those who are waiting, you may want to familiarize yourself with some of Copenhagen’s most popular transportation systems: bicycles. There are more than 390 kilometers of designated bike lanes in the city, making it one of the most cycling-friendly cities on the planet.
Over 100 Bycyklen (City Bike) stations are scattered across the city, including one on the northeast end of Ørstedsparken near the hotel – Nørreport Station Syd – and one at Vesterport Station to the south of the hotel. There are also plenty of bike rental services nearby, including widespread locations for the popular Donkey Republic (which operates 24/7).

Don’t feel like working up a sweat? Saddle down with some of Denmark’s finest cuisine. Hot dog vans are an important part of Copenhagen’s vibrant street culture. Or you could order a traditional smørrebrød (open-face rye sandwich) with leverpostej (liver pâté), saltkød (smoked beef), or røget ål (smoked eel). You’ll probably encounter other seafood staples in various formats, including sild (herring), torsk (cod), laks (salmon), and rejer (shrimp).

Converging Grounds A Charrette on Density in Denmark Five pre-determined charrette teams made up of members of the International Council and Danish urban leaders will be given Denmark-specific sites to sketch, where they will gather visual information and answer the questions:
How is my case-study area improving the quality and variety of local public space and programs? Does this area accommodate a high density of citizens? Is the design of our case study addressing the needs of changing populations, economies, and preferences? How is this site unlocking the policies, regulations, and government processes shape our housing stock and communities? At my site and in its surrounding neighborhood, are there opportunities for densification? If no, why?
At this time, from 10:00-12:00 we’ll visit sites and sketch as teams.
