Downtown Collinsville is gearing up for one of the biggest car and motorcycle shows in the state. On June 11, more than 300 vintage and classic cars and motorcycles will take over Main Street during the city’s 15th Annual Hogs N’ Hot Rods Car and Motorcycle Show. The event is free and open to the public. The family-friendly event anticipates drawing in between 10-15,000 people to attend, more than doubling the population of this town of 6,000 located north of Owasso. Cars and motorcycle owners will compete for cash prizes and trophies in a number of categories including best interior, best paint, best engine and best of show. More than 70 trophies, prizes or plaques will be awarded. The event also features per-

formances by the winners of Collinsville’s vocal contest, and an expanded Kid Zone complete with face painting, a coloring contest and handson craft projects. In addition to cars and motorcycles lining Main Street, crafters and area businesses will be selling their wares. Local shops and restaurants will be open to visitors looking for some local flavors. Regional event organizers count on the support of neighborhood businesses for sponsorships, volunteers and donations. These events make our hometowns vibrant and fun, as well as invite others to enjoy our quality of life. This will be the second year for Dr. Len Hart’s office to participate in Hogs N’ Hot Rods. Five owners comprise the Nu-Roof Management Team: Brad Parson, Chris Merriott, Cass Benner, Shane Emerson and Rickey Stanley. The entire group is Oklahoma born and bred and have been friends for many years, some even since elementary school in Inola, OK. The company emerged when Brad’s father, Carl Parson, retired from Parson Roofing Company and the five-man team took over the business. The Claremore Regional Air Show is back! The family-fun event is scheduled to return for the first time in ten years on Saturday, June 11. This event held at the Claremore Regional Airport is free, open to the public and the only one of its kind in Northeastern Oklahoma. The show will commence with a sky divers flag jump and will provide thrilling displays of skill. A military presence will be a feature of the show, both in the sky and on the ground. The show is coordinated by David Shultz Airshows LLC. and a team of airshow professionals who travel worldwide to host these kind of events. The most common question I am asked when clients come into the office these days is about how the upcoming presidential election will affect their investments. Like no other political contest in recent memory, the nation is transfixed on the 2016 presidential election. While Main Street looks to the fall campaign with great anticipation, many investors do not. When you step into the voting booth, you should consider which candidate is not only the right person for the nation, but your personal finances as well. Indeed, this is the Politics of Investing. Today’s issues of energy, terrorism, healthcare, race relations, and gun control can seem very daunting. As President Harry Truman told us, “The United States has always anticipated the future with courage and excitement.” As investors we have experienced firsthand extremely difficult times. From assassinations, to wars, acts of violence, oil embargoes, and crippling

conversations, the election is still many MONTHS away. Moving forward, be prepared for a change in political power. It will happen whether you are ready or not. Review your investments now and determine what changes, if any, need to be made to prepare yourself. Plan to take advantage of opportunities in the market. recessions, our great nation has faced unimaginable circumstances. Whether it is Trump, Bernie, or Clinton this fall here are some facts to keep in mind: Don’t listen to the peanut gallery. The debates and elections bring a multitude of “what if” scenarios to the forefront. Will ObamaCare be done away with? Are taxes going to be on the rise? What will happen to my investment accounts? Which bathroom can I use? Relying solely on assumptions can result in impulsive financial behaviors. Being a financial planner, I air on the side of caution. I don’t recommend basing decisions on speculation. Have a plan, and stick to your plan. Plan to take advantage of opportunities in the market. Be a high flyer! AA Penny Earned is A Penny Saved Five Money Lessons from Grandparents
By Jocelyn Wood Every year, my granddad would sit his grandkids down at the kitchen table and pour out a big jar full of coins he’d saved. We could have these coins but only after we sorted, divided equally and then rolled them. As little children, it felt like hours to complete this task, but the reward was a bag full of money. When grandparents talk, we ought to listen, especially when it comes to money. They’ve invested a lifetime earning, spending and saving money. They can teach us a thing or two about the value of a dollar and the importance of saving for a rainy day. Here’s five financial lessons learned from grandparents. Lesson one: Earn things. My granddad always said, “A penny earned is a penny saved.” He’d tell us,“If someone just gives you money, you’re more likely to go spend it. But if you have to earn it, you’re more likely to appreciate money and less likely to waste it.” Lesson two: Stay out of debt. Since their first paychecks, Mary and Jack Spinks have been careful how they spend the money they make.
“They did. Both of them worked. My grandfather worked on the railroad and my grandmother cooked. They lived on one salary, the other one went into the bank. And that was hard because they had five kids.” These early sacrifices eventually allowed the couple to buy a rental property and future prosperity. “It took a while to get there,”
she said. “But they did it.” Lesson four: It’s just stuff. “We don’t need everything we want,” said Isabel Melton, “Not by a long shot.” It’s all about perspective when applying these lessons. Once you put materialism in perspective, lessons two and

BBlack Music Month A Celebration Almost 40 Years In the Making

Black Music Month began in 1979 when Kenny Gamble, Ed Wright, and Dyana Williams developed the idea to set aside a month dedicated to celebrating the impact of black music. Created by music business insiders, the group successfully lobbied President Jimmy Carter to host a reception on June 7th, 1979 to formally recognize the cultural and financial contributions of the music genre. Since 1979, Black Music Month has grown from a small commemoration to national proportions with events held annually across the country. In June 2014, Muskogee, Oklahoma was proud to announce its inaugural celebration of Black Music Month, the first of its kind in the state of Oklahoma. The opening artist for this new, exciting event was Eldredge Jackson and Listening Pleasure along with Starr Fisher and Band. Cassandra Gaines, Diversity and Cultural Liaison for the City
of Muskogee, was honored to receive a letter of endorsement for this event from Governor Mary Fallin. The concert
was also shared via live video broadcast to the men and women of the United States Military serving overseas.
On June 25, 2016 the City of Muskogee will hosting the Third Annual Black Music Month Celebration at
Hatbox Field. This event is supported by Oklahoma film and Music and sponsored by Cross Telephone, Runts, Dillard, Neighbor Building Neighborhoods, City of Muskogee, Zelcon, Oklahoma State Arts Council and Muskogee Chamber of Commerce and Tourism, PC Landing zone and James Hodge Ford. The event will feature a dynamic performance by The GAP Band and is free to the public. Opening acts include Starr Fisher and Band as well as Dylan Whitney and Band. Tulsa County Fair The annual event encourages all ages to show off their creative skills By Erica Ludwig To the members of OHCE and 4-H, the Tulsa County Fair is the best kept secret in Tulsa. This annual event, set for July 21-22, encourages people to show their handiwork and skills in various categories such as painting, photography and quiltwork. The annual fair is sure to please the masses with a vast amount of baked goods, a petting zoo, live music, an ice cream social and much more. Mark your calendars
– this is a perfect opportunity to spend some fun quality time with family and friends. The Tulsa County Fair kicks off Tuesday the 19th. The first evening of the fair will be open for those wishing to enter their goods from 4-7 p.m. “People come and see what they can make, what they can enter,” said Julaine Farless, cochair of the Tulsa County Fair and OHCE Tulsa County President.
4-H Ice Cream Social The Tulsa County 4-H will finish off the fair festivities with an ice cream social. All proceeds will go to the Tulsa County 4-H volunteer organization to help with programming and scholarships. The Ice Cream Social takes place from 5:30 - 8 p.m. at the Exchange Center on the Tulsa State Faigrounds. General admission cost is $3 which includes ice cream with all the toppings. There wil be live music and various talents performed by the 4-H kids. 4-H will also have a silent auction with different gift baskets or individual items. The kids involved with this program are active participants in the fair, doing make and take projects with those who come through. This event is important for 4-H, since the Tulsa County Fair and the Ice Cream Social are the organization’s largest fundraisers of the year. Tulsa County 4-H uses the proceeds to fund scholarships as well as programming. Some of the kids involved with this program attend Citizenship Washington Focus in Washington D.C. and also travel to Denver, Colorado for the Western Livestock show. Raise the Cigarette Tax Now to Save Health Care By Jimmy Leopard Health care in our state is on the brink of collapse. With impending medical reimbursement rate cuts coming to an already inadequately funded health care system, this summer may see the end of health care as we know it in Oklahoma. This is not a threat – it is reality. Oklahoma is on the verge of a statewide system failure that will hurt everyone, risk lives and damage the state. Hospital administrators and health care professionals have been warning about the deepening health care crisis for months. The state has experienced two revenue failures – months when it cannot pay its bills – during this fiscal year. In addition, with Oklahoma facing a $1.3 billion budget hole for next year, the agency that administers the state’s Medicaid program is planning for devastating provider rate cuts beginning June 1. Previous cuts have already taken a heavy toll. Additional cuts of any size will force physicians to turn away patients on Medicaid. With an expected cut of 25 percent, at least a dozen hospitals will shut down within a year. More than 90 percent of Oklahoma nursing homes will close, pushing at least 16,000 disabled and elderly Oklahomans onto the
