Digital Media Arts
Develop the creative and technical skills to communicate meaningful stories across digital media, photography, video, audio, and more through Valpo’s digital media arts program.
In this four-year program, you’ll build a broad foundation in storytelling, design, writing, image composition, and editing while gaining hands-on experience with cameras, lighting, audio and video equipment, and editing software. You’ll learn in professional studios, digital labs, and real production environments, creating media both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
From film production and photography to graphic design, social media, podcasting, and broadcast journalism, Valpo’s digital media arts major prepares you for a wide range of careers by helping you develop both artistic vision and technical confidence in many different areas. Through client-based projects, internships, and leadership opportunities in student-run media organizations, you’ll graduate with the versatility to create innovative work and take your career wherever you’re inspired to go.

EXPERT MENTORSHIP
At Valpo, you’ll learn from professors who bring both professional media experience and academic expertise to the classroom. Professors have worked as radio and television producers, photographers, reporters, web designers, and filmmakers, while also contributing meaningful scholarship in media studies.
With small classes and personalized mentorship, professors support you as academic advisors, internship supervisors, and leaders of co-curricular media organizations. They help you refine your creative voice, build professional skills, and prepare confidently for careers across the media industry.
EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
Our digital media arts program is built on tangible experience. Through classes in digital labs and studios, you’ll work on audio, video, photography, design, and multimedia projects that reflect the latest technology and trends in the industry.
Every student completes a required 135-hour internship and a senior capstone project, building both professional experience and a strong portfolio. You can also take leadership roles in Valpo’s student-run media organizations, including the award-winning student-run newspaper, The Torch, student literary magazine, The Lighter, and annual yearbook, The “Beacon.” Valpo also offers many opportunities to get involved in multimedia through campus television and radio stations, VUTV and WVUR-FM, and student work filming live-streaming athletic events with Valpo’s professional ESPN production team.
