Communication

With Valparaiso University’s communication program, you’ll learn how to connect with audiences, tell compelling stories, and create meaningful content, preparing for careers in media, public relations, business, and more.
Strong communication skills open doors in nearly every field. In this program, you’ll build your expertise as a communicator with studies in public speaking, writing, media production, and interpersonal interactions. You’ll also dive deeper into the field, learning how communication shapes leaders, organizations, and everyday connections.
You can tailor your degree by choosing one of three concentrations:
• Journalism: Learn how to communicate ideas and tell stories in the media, through interviews, research, and writing that captures attention.
• Public Relations: Build skills to communicate strategically for organizations, brands, and leaders through media relations, social media, and other channels.
• General Communication: Design your own path through this flexible track that allows you to select courses based on your interests and career goals.
Throughout your studies, you’ll gain hands-on experience with an internship, senior project, and opportunities to get involved with Valpo’s student media organizations. You’ll graduate with expertise in speaking, leadership, and professional communication — giving you confidence in your voice wherever your future takes you.

“It’s not like you just show up to class, you take your notes, and you leave. That’s not how it is in the communication program. It’s so engaging. Valpo’s program opened a lot of doors for what I could do for my career.”
