Dear Fellow Members,
Last month, I wrote about the proposed change to replace our clay courts with hard courts. Since then, many of you have shared thoughtful perspectives, and I wanted to follow up.
While many were excited about the change, others—particularly members of the SLICE group—were disappointed. This group has been the most consistent user of the clay courts and reflects one of the Club’s most important values: camaraderie. Several days each week, they have made those courts the setting for friendship, mutual support, and a genuine love of the game. That is something worth recognizing.
Their feedback has also made a difference. Members spoke clearly about the physical benefits of softer playing surfaces, and in response, the Racquet Sports Committee refined its recommendation. Rather than traditional hard courts, we will pursue composite courts with a cushioned system—similar to those played at the Australian Open. These courts are gentler on the body, cooler underfoot, and more consistently playable throughout the year. They are also more expensive than standard hard courts, but we believe this is a worthwhile investment in our racquet sports program and, more importantly, in our members.
At the same time, the clay courts are used by a small and shrinking portion of the membership, while overall racquet sports participation is thriving. More members are playing today than at any time in our history and maintaining two underutilized courts became difficult to justify.
This process has also reflected another core value: civility and mutual respect. Even where there is disagreement, members have engaged thoughtfully with one another and with the Club. That matters.
Management will now move forward with planning for the padel court and the replacement of the clay courts. In the coming weeks, we will share renderings of the updated patio and court area with members. There is still meaningful input to come, particularly around the exact feel and performance of the new surface.
Before we turn the page, we will take time to celebrate the clay courts properly and the community built around them over the past twenty years.
I hope—and suspect—that these two softer, cooler courts may become the most popular at the Club. Our reservation patterns over the next year will tell the story.
With appreciation,

John Babcock President, Board of Directors

Dear Members,
I hope this message finds you well and that you are enjoying the start of this already warm spring season at The Valley Hunt Club.
I am pleased to share several exciting updates designed to enhance your overall Club experience—making it more convenient, engaging, and enjoyable for the entire family.
First, we are thrilled to introduce our new Club app, launching on April 30, 2026. This highly user-friendly platform will serve as your central hub for all things Clubrelated—from making dining and court reservations to staying informed about events, updates, and important information.
To celebrate and support this rollout, we will be hosting an “App-y Hour” on April 30 in the Palm Court. The app development team, Pacesetter, will be on hand to provide feature demonstrations and assist anyone who may need help. That evening, you will be able to log into the new app with all your existing reservations—including racquet bookings, as PlayByPoint’s capabilities will now be fully integrated into the new platform—already in place. Our goal is to make this transition as effortless and enjoyable as possible for everyone.
With summer just around the corner, we are also excited to unveil our enhanced pool program. Beginning April 25, 2026, you will enjoy a new and improved food offering served poolside seven days a week from 12:00 pm to 7:30 pm. All savory menu items will be freshly prepared in our main kitchen, ensuring the same high quality you expect throughout the Club. For those with a sweet tooth, our snack bar will feature a variety of treats, including desserts, smoothies, and a new soft-serve ice cream—sure to be a favorite among kids of all ages.
Poolside service will be both elevated and convenient. Members may order food and beverages directly from our poolside server or, soon, seamlessly through the new app. We will also introduce a fun and interactive kiosk where children can place their own orders—adding an element of independence and enjoyment to their experience. To further enhance comfort, new trays will allow you to dine easily from your lounge chair without missing a moment of relaxation.
Finally, I am delighted to share a new family-friendly benefit: starting next week, children under the age of five will dine complimentary at the Club. We hope this addition makes family time even more enjoyable and accessible.
These enhancements reflect our continued commitment to elevating our Member experience while honoring the traditions that make our Club so special.
I look forward to seeing many of you at our App-y Hour on April 30, around the pool in the weeks and months ahead, and of course this Sunday for Easter, which promises to be a festive and lively day for the entire family.
And last but certainly not least, a big congratulations to Erika on her welldeserved promotion to Manager of the Brinton Marketplace!
Warm regards,

François Grand General Manager

Each month, we take a moment to recognize and thank the members and staff who have reached meaningful milestones with The Valley Hunt Club. From 1 year to 50 years and beyond, we are proud to honor the dedication, loyalty, and shared history that make our Club so special.

A new era of membership begins this month.
The Valley Hunt Club has always been a place where tradition and excellence go hand in hand. Since 1888, we have prided ourselves on delivering an exceptional experience to every member who walks through our doors.
Today, we are excited to take that commitment one step further and put it directly in the palm of your hand.
We are thrilled to announce the launch of the official Valley Hunt Club mobile app, developed in partnership with Pacesetter Technology. Pacesetter is trusted by some of the most prestigious clubs in the country, from Pebble Beach to The Olympic Club, and we are proud to bring that same level of innovation to Pasadena.
From the moment you open the app, you will notice that it knows who you are. The app greets you by name, gives you a real-time look at what’s happening at the club, and puts everything you need right in front of you. Think of it as your personal concierge, always within reach.
One of the most exciting aspects of the app is how seamlessly it brings together the many facets of club life. Rather than juggling phone calls, emails, and paper sign-up sheets, members can now handle nearly everything with a few taps. Book a tennis court, reserve a racquets lesson with your favorite pro, or sign up for a fitness class, and more. The court booking feature even replicates the layout of our courts so you can select your preferred spot.
Dining reservations through SevenRooms are integrated directly into the app, and members can browse our menus and place to-go orders from anywhere on the property.
Communication is at the heart of everything we do, and the app transforms how we stay in touch with you. Push notifications mean you will never miss an event announcement, a last-minute notice, or an update about court conditions. Our newsletters, event flyers, and club documents are now available as live, easily accessible documents right on your phone.
Members can also manage their interest groups directly in

the app, opting in to receive only the communications most relevant to them, whether that’s racquets, wellness, social events, kids, or all of the above.
The app doesn’t just connect you to the club, it connects you to each other. The member directory is fully searchable, the club calendar shows who else is registered for upcoming events, and a member chat feature makes it easy to invite friends to join you for a round of tennis or a weeknight dinner. You can even register guests, check in digitally on arrival, and keep an eye on who’s currently on the property.
Our team will be on hand to walk you through the experience and answer any questions. We can’t wait for you to experience it.
The Valley Hunt Club has been a gathering place for generations. This app ensures that tradition carries forward, one tap at a time.

The only heat of the day was the competition as the VHC Golf Club traveled to San Dimas for a day on the course. Conditions were excellent, with the course in fine shape despite the recent Southern California temperatures.
The winning foursome included Jim Keatley, Richard Slater, Randy Heartfield, and Gary Conrad. Closest-to-the-pin honors went to Richard Slater, Jim Keatley, and Gary Conrad, while Matt Vicenti claimed the long drive, sending his ball nearly 300 yards.

After March’s heatwave, April may bring welcome showers, though as always, the weather keeps its own counsel. We look forward to a thoughtfully curated month ahead.
