STINGRAY SWIM TEAM

The Stingray program is based on developing technique and focusing on building confidence with an emphasis on the four major strokes. Weekly drills help build fast and efficient strokes for a solid foundation. We mix work, fun, racing, and goal-setting to help each Stingray achieve their potential!

Open to ages 4-17, the team is divided into three skill-based training groups. The VHC Stingrays offer coaching technique and attention to meet each individual swimmers needs.

Stingray swimmers are encouraged to participate the entire season. Team spirit and the multi-age friendships are one of the greatest benefits of team participation.

SWIM MEET FAQS

Swim meets take place on Saturdays from approximately 8:00 am to 2:00 pm and are open to all active team members.

What time should I arrive at the meet?

• GOLDEN RAYS 6:50 am

• BLUE RAYS 7:10 am

• MINI RAYS 7:20 am

It is very important to check in with Coach Tim, since he has to eliminate absent swimmers and enter substitute swimmers. If there is a sudden emergency that prohibits you from attending, PLEASE LET TIM KNOW! tkyle@valleyhuntclub.com or (909)556-0638.

VHC Team Area

Our swimmers will be assigned to an area at the meet so that they can easily be located and taken to their events on time. It is important that all swimmers remain in this location so that the coaches can get them to the ready bench on time.

Events

Swimmers are called for their event at least two events prior to the one that they are swimming. At this time, swimmers should be at the Ready Bench and there will be an indication that the swimmers can step up on the blocks. Any swimmer not on the block when the starter blows the whistle will have 30 seconds to be on the block or they will receive a false start. Leaving the block before the official start will also result in a false start. Two false starts in any heat to one swimmer will equal a disqualification (DQ).

What events will my child be swimming in?

Coach Tim will determine who swims in what events according to their individual goals and abilities. He will evaluate strokes, endurance, and experience of all the swimmers. He will then place them in the events in which they can excel and do their best. Seeding a meet consists of placing the swimmers in events that will benefit themselves and the team. It is very important that you notify the Coach Tim if your plans have changed and if your child will not be at the meet.

What are the events?

There are five individual events consisting of: Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, and the Individual Medley (IM: one length of each of the four strokes). There are two relay events: Freestyle and Medley. In the Medley event, four teammates each swim a different stroke.

The 6 and under age group relays are co-ed.

Order of Events at all Stingray Swim Meets is as follows:

1. Individual Medley

2. Medley Relay

3. Medley Relay

100 yds 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18

100 yds 6-under, 7-8, 9-10

200 yds 11-12, 13-14, 15-18

4. Freestyle 25 yds 6-under, 7-8, 9-10

5. Freestyle 50 yds 11-12, 13-14, 15-18

6. Backstroke 25 yds 6-under, 7-8, 9-10

7. Backstroke 50 yds 11-12, 13-14, 15-18

8. Breaststroke 25 yds 6-under, 7-8, 9-10

9. Breaststroke 50 yds 11-12, 13-14, 15-18

10. Freestyle 50 yds 7-8, 9-10

11. Freestyle 100 yds 11-12, 13-14, 15-18

12. Butterfly 25 yds 6-under, 7-8, 9-10

13. Butterfly 50 yds 11-12, 13-14, 15-18

14. Free Relay 100 yds 6-under, 7-8, 9-10

15. Free Relay 200 yds 11-12, 13-14, 15-18

About 3-4 events prior to every swimmer’s event, they will be escorted to the “Ready Bench” by a member of the coaching staff. This is done to ensure that every swimmer makes it to their race on time and does not miss his/her opportunity to compete. Therefore, swimmers need to stay in the VHC assigned area. This saves time in getting the swimmers to their events and helps to make the meet run smoothly, especially with getting relay teams together.

Disqualification (DQ)

One judge from the Crest League will walk the side of the pool watching the swimmers’ strokes, turns and finishes. Illegal strokes, turns or finishes may be an advantage to the swimmer and therefore the judge will disqualify the swimmer for that event.

Parent participation is vital to a successful swim season. Each family is required to sign up to perform time keeping at meets. You will receive an email with a link to the Google Drive Sign-Up File at the beginning of the season. You’re responsible for bringing a snack for your swimmer to each meet! Snacks are available for purchase but sell out quickly so come prepared with your own provisions.

Crest League Championships

Championships is the final meet of the season, held Saturday, July 18 at Rose Bowl Aquatics Center. All six teams in the league compete against one another. This meet is open to all swimmers who meet the minimum eligibility requirements of having swum in a minimum of two meets. Trophies are awarded for 1st through 3rd places and ribbons are given for 4th through 20th place.

What are the rules at the meet?

• Check in with Coach Tim!

• Only swimmers who are participating in an event are allowed in the ready area behind the starting blocks.

• After an event, swimmers need to return to the VHC team area.

• Cell phone use can be very distracting to our swimmers. We ask that you please walk away from the immediate pool area to use your phone.

• All timers must keep their cell phones turned off!

• When the meet is over, please pick up any garbage and clean your area. Please leave your space cleaner than it was when you arrived!

If you have any other questions please
