“After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh” (Matthew 2:9-11).

Good evening and welcome

TO VALLEY CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS’ CHRISTMAS AT THE CALIFORNIA!

This annual concert series has become a time-honored tradition that unites our community in music, beauty, and wonder.

From a stable in Bethlehem to the concert hall tonight, the story of Christmas has always been one of light breaking through darkness. The bells that ring this evening carry not just melodies, but serve as a reminder that even when the world grows weary, God’s promise endures. His light continues to shine in our hearts, in our communities, and through the gifts of these young artists who share their talents with you tonight.

As we reflect on this timeless story that is foundational to the Christian faith, may we hear in every note a call to renewal and compassion. The same God who entered the world as a child still meets us in unexpected places, in acts of kindness, in the resilience of faith, and in the music that binds us together.

Whether this season finds you celebrating long-held traditions or simply seeking a moment of peace, may tonight’s performance remind you that the bells still ring for all of us, for the weary and the joyful alike, calling us to remember that love has come and hope is alive.

We are deeply honored to share this evening with you. May the beauty of the music lift your spirit, the story renew your heart, and the message of Christmas fill you with lasting peace.

With warm blessings,

i heard the bells on

Christmas Day

When I think of bells, I am reminded of something that grabs our attention to announce a shift. There are school bells to mark the beginning and end of each class or the school day. Some may think of the dinner bell signaling a gathering for a meal. Or perhaps you think of majestic cathedrals with bells sounding the shift in time. Those same bells call the faithful to worship. How about the joy of hearing students in a handbell choir bring a melodious piece of music to life?

This time of year, I am reminded of the old song, “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day,” which highlights the announcement of “peace on earth, and goodwill to mankind.” The heavenly angels made a proclamation, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward mankind” (Luke 2:14), to announce a change in time, and a shift for all to recognize the very special birth of Jesus Christ. The One who would die on the cross and be the Savior of all who put their trust in Him.

Like bells, this brought attention to a lasting hope, peace, and joy. I pray that this week of concerts, which will likely include bells, will draw our attention to the reason we celebrate Christmas and prompt a shift in our thinking to recognize how much we need the power and presence of our Mighty God. May this evening’s performances and the blessing of the arts allow us to come together as a community to celebrate the greatest gift of all, our Savior, Jesus Christ.

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

Our Christmas Prayer a family tradition

Dear God, our Father, thank You for sending Your only Son to earth as a baby so many years ago. Thank You that Jesus paid the punishment for my sins by dying on the cross. Thank You that He has the power of God to defeat death through His resurrection for everyone who accepts Jesus as Lord and Savior. Let the lights of the Christmas season remind me that Christ is the Light of the world. May Your Word penetrate my heart as I receive Your gift of eternal life by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. The angelic hosts rejoice when our children or any family member chooses to accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior, for now and for eternity. I am so grateful, Lord Jesus, that whoever believes in You will not perish but have everlasting life. This Christmas, I celebrate that You came to the Earth to save me, my family, and the entire world. I pray in the mighty name of Jesus, our King of kings and Lord of lords.

Amen.
