IMPACT REPORT 2025 - 2026
Transforming Education
THE UWC ATLANTIC WAY!
Shaping a Future
I write this in a rare few quiet days, after this year's Reunion, where we welcomed back the classes of ’66, ’76, ’86, ’96, ’06 and 2016. Reflecting on this last year, I feel there is a unique energy that fills the campus a vibrant blend of hope, determination and shared purpose that reminds us daily why our mission matters. My overwhelming feeling is one of profound gratitude that in challenging economic times, our community has come together with remarkable resilience. Because of your generosity, we have not only sustained our unique educational experience but also taken bold leaps forward. The past year was defined by milestone achievements where innovation met impact. We proudly celebrated our second graduating cohort of the Systems Transformation Pathway (STP), a milestone validated by a report on the programme's effectiveness from the University of Cambridge. Furthermore, our close collaboration with the International Baccalaureate (IB) culminated in the landmark announcement that the STP will scale globally across all IB schools by 2030, positioning the curriculum to influence educational frameworks on a massive scale. Our graduates continue to reach for their dreams, securing places at some of the world’s most selective institutions - from Oxford and US Ivy League universities to specialised liberal arts colleges and forward-thinking programmes in AI - while others embark on highly productive gap years.
ANCHORED IN COMMUNITY
On campus, student leadership shone during an exceptional Project Week and our student-led conferences. Our co-curricular life thrived as well: our boys’ football team continued to be outstanding community ambassadors, our service work expanded deeper into South Wales and we successfully got our sailing programme back into the water. Crucially, 2025 was an extraordinary year, with our community raising more than £6.4 million for our Forever Scholarships Endowment Appeal. This remarkable achievement was made possible by two generous donors who established a match funding opportunity, inspiring widespread support across our community. Behind every milestone are the individual stories of young people permanently transformed by donor support. Scholars like Chimwemwe from Zambia and Milagros from Peru have been incredible ambassadors for the College, both utilising Lighthouse grants to extend the impact of their UWC Atlantic education directly back into their home communities.
Seeing generations of graduates return for our reunions showcases a powerful truth: while the world changes, the fundamental bond of UWC Atlantic remains unbroken. Looking ahead, we are laying the foundations for the College's next phase of growth by expanding outdoor education and advancing teacher professional development through the Centre for Systems Transformation, Leadership and Education (C4STLE), helping to scale the Systems Transformation Pathway. We live in complex times, but our students provide an abundance of hope - they are the ultimate antidote to the headwinds of our world today. It is strictly because of your generosity that we can continue this vital work. Thank you for standing with us.

Scholarships: 164 students supported Our scholarship programme is a vital initiative dedicated to dismantling obstacles, celebrating diversity and opening doors for remarkable young people from every walk of life. This year we raised £3,549,711, for scholarships, allowing 164 students to receive full or partial funding in 2025- 2026.
A standout moment of collective impact was our Big Give Campaign, which raised £280,000. This initiative put the incredible spirit of our community on full display, bringing together alumni, families, staff and friends in a unified push to expand educational access. Ultimately, it is the first-hand stories of our scholars that truly demonstrate the vital importance of our work:
"I never imagined myself at UWC Atlantic, yet now I can’t imagine who I would be without it. It might not change your whole life, but it changes you as a person." Chimwemwe, Zambia
"UWC Atlantic allowed me to turn my passion for ecology into real community action. Receiving this scholarship is an incredible honour, and I'm excited to keep pushing boundaries." Timo, Canada As we look to the future, your continued partnership will allow us to ensure that financial barriers never stand in the way of talent, giving more young people the chance to experience the life-changing impact of a UWC Atlantic education.

Lighthouse: innovation and entrepreneurial hub This year, Lighthouse offered and tested a range of opportunities to support students in developing innovative ideas, entrepreneurial skills and social impact projects rooted in the systems they wish to change. 2025–2026 Lighthouse Prize winner Anna Badyra is turning inspiration into action.
With support from the Lighthouse Prize, Anna launched VATRA, a mentorship academy connecting young people from conflict zones, beginning with Ukraine, to global mentors. Her commitment to supporting displaced young people began while volunteering with Ukrainian refugees in Poland and continued at UWC Atlantic, where she co-founded Razom, a weekly conversation club for the local Ukrainian community. Through VATRA, she is now helping the next generation access the same life-changing mentorship that inspired her.

A Blueprint for Education: The Systems Transformation Pathway
2024-26
2023-25
When UWC Atlantic co-developed the Systems Transformation Pathway (STP) with the International Baccalaureate (IB), the goal was clear: move beyond traditional rote learning and give students the tools to actively intervene in global crises. This year marks a landmark moment of celebration and validation for this visionary curriculum.

“The Systems Transformation Pathway represents a significant and timely contribution to global education, equipping young people with the capability to engage meaningfully with complexity and change.” Mark Winterbottom, Professor of Education, Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge
Scaling Globally by 2030 What began as a brave experiment at St Donat’s Castle and three other schools around the world is now poised to reshape global education. Building on the success of our pilot, the IB announced a major milestone this year: the Systems Transformation curriculum will be scaled to all IB schools worldwide by 2030. UWC Atlantic has successfully provided the global education sector with a “proven proof of concept.”

Centre for Systems Transformation, Leadership and Education (C4STLE) The Centre for Systems Transformation, Leadership and Education, or C4STLE, as it is affectionately known, builds on the momentum of the Systems Transformation Pathway (STP), pioneered and launched in 2023 . It will take the next step in our ambition: creating a global centre for systems thinking, education and leadership. C4STLE will expand UWC Atlantic’s impact by: Training educators globally to deliver the STP curriculum with expertise and confidence. Developing open-access systems education resources, freely available to teachers worldwide. Driving research and continuous improvement, ensuring the curriculum stays world-leading. Creating youth learning experiences, including summer programmes and short courses. Building a sustainable income stream through professional learning and teacher education. As the Systems Transformation Pathway scales globally, C4STLE will keep UWC Atlantic at the forefront of systems education and extend our impact worldwide. We are seeking £700,000 in seed funding to make C4STLE a reality – and we hope you’ll help us build it.

An EXTRAORDINARY Year for the Atlantic Fund
g n i s i a R
£1,042,706
The Atlantic Fund is our platform for collective giving. Contributions and pledges come from annual, monthly and one-time gifts from the UWC Atlantic community and alumni class appeals. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our global community, the Atlantic Fund has achieved a remarkable milestone this year, raising £1,042,706. Surpassing £1,000,000 is more than an achievement; it is a powerful reflection of what can be accomplished when our community unites behind a shared belief in the transformative power of education. This milestone demonstrates the collective impact of thousands of individuals coming together. From inspiring global campaigns such as our awardwinning Big Give Campaign to alumni reunions, campus events and individual acts of generosity, alumni, parents, staff and friends from around the world came together to make this success possible. Every donation, every event and every act of support played a vital role in reaching this extraordinary milestone.

Alessandro Tazartes (Class of ‘25) and Luis Saenz Pombo (Class of ’25) - Bifrost Alessandro and Luis (AC’25) chose to give their time to UWC in an extraordinary way. They spent 18 days cycling 1,332 km around Iceland’s Ring Road, using their journey to raise funds for scholarships. Their commitment of time, energy and determination has raised more than €117,000 – enough to fund a scholarship for an Icelandic student and another for a student whose life has been affected by war. But their journey isn’t over: they are continuing to fundraise and are now just €50,000 away from their goal of funding two additional scholarships. Their story is a powerful reminder that giving to UWC isn’t only about money: giving your time and talent can also transform lives.
PILLAR TWO
Stories of of
TIME, TALENT
Peter Sutoris (Class of '07) Peter (AC’07) regularly gives his time and expertise back to UWC Atlantic, sharing his experience with both staff and students. This year, Peter led a staff workshop, Educating for an Unimaginable Future, exploring how education can cultivate long-term thinking, responsibility and imagination about the future. He also spoke to students at the MosaiCon Conference, drawing on his work and experience in the Marshall Islands to explore questions of development and the future. By sharing his knowledge and perspective in different ways, Peter continues to make a valuable contribution to the UWC Atlantic community and demonstrate the impact of alumni giving their time and talent.
AND TREASURE Albert Hui (Class of ‘97) Albert (AC’97) demonstrates that giving to UWC Atlantic is not always about making a personal financial contribution. Through his work with a family office and foundation, Albert helped us unlock a substantial gift by using his professional network and advocating for the transformative impact of a UWC Atlantic education. His contribution highlights the powerful role alumni and the wider UWC community can play in fundraising: opening doors, making connections and helping others discover opportunities to support the College. Albert also encourages fellow alumni to consider the networks and relationships they have built throughout their careers and how they can be used to support UWC Atlantic. By helping unlock significant philanthropic support, alumni like Albert are helping create opportunities for more young people to access a UWC education.
If you can give your time, talent or treasure, we’d love to hear from you. Every contribution can make a lasting difference. Please email alumni@uwcatlantic.org to find out how you can help.
ENGAGED COMMUNITY
UWC ATLANTIC ALUMNI IMPACT:
For more than 25 years, Jill Longson has been one of UWC Atlantic's greatest champions. Since arriving as a student in 1979, Jill (AC’81) has devoted her time, energy and heart to UWC Atlantic. Together with her husband, Colin Habgood, she founded ‘GoMakeADifference’ in 2001, which has supported and inspired generations of alumni to stay connected and give back. Her dedication includes serving as Vice Chair of both UWC Atlantic (2006–2013) and UWC International (2012–2017), founding the AC Campus Volunteers programme (2012–present), returning to the AC Board in 2018, and leading AC as Chair from 2020 to 2026.
ENGAGED COMMUNITY
Under her chairship, she recruited Naheed and mandated him to innovate; championed the development of the Systems Transformation Pathway; promoted the castle renovation programme; encouraged the revitalisation of the seafront; bolstered student autonomy and student wellbeing support and actively supported the UWC Endowment Fund.
Jill Longson
Alongside her leadership, Jill and Colin have generously donated to the UWC Atlantic Endowment Fund, helping to ensure that future generations of students can benefit from the life-changing education that meant so much to her. Jill retired in June 2026 as Chair of the Board, having served her full six-year tenure. Thankfully, she is not leaving us, having agreed to take on another role, championing the College as a UWC Atlantic Ambassador - sharing its story, supporting its philanthropic ambitions and inspiring others to become part of its future.
Jill's legacy is one of service, generosity and unwavering belief in the transformative power of education. From student to volunteer, trustee, international leader, philanthropist and Chair, she has dedicated more than 25 years to ensuring that UWC Atlantic continues to change lives.
Thank youJill! youJill! PILLAR THREE
ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT Meet Jonas Moberg, AC‘88 Incoming Chair of the Board of Governors. You first experienced UWC Atlantic as a student. What is it like returning as the Chair of the Board? A lot is going on! While much in the castle remains the same, the generations of students come and go, vibrantly filling it with new activities and discoveries. I hadn't understood what it takes behind the scenes to make it all work. I am deeply impressed by the dedication of our students, staff and volunteers. How did your own time as a student shape your personal values and career path? I applied for a scholarship because I was curious about how the world functioned. My two years at the College transformed that curiosity into a deeper interest in global affairs. It left me thinking that meaning and purpose in life are achieved by contributing to a better world. I hope to give back to UWC Atlantic, so it remains true to its mission and continues to inspire our students.
ENGAGED COMMUNITY
Jonas Moberg
Where do you see the College’s opportunities for growth or innovation over the next five years? With so many pressing challenges in the world, I'm not sure where to start. I am excited about STP and would like us to focus on providing our students with a solid understanding of global challenges through AI and new approaches to knowledge and education. We can offer more learning by undertaking more service and hard-wire a moral compass through actions and interactions. Why is innovation vital to building donor’s trust? Resources are limited and we need to work hard to make sure that we have the necessary means to offer the experience we all care about. To be successful in raising new funds and continue building trust with our donors and other stakeholders, it is necessary that we in all our actions, remain true to the mission, continue to innovate and make sure that we offer genuinely exciting and world-class education, in its broadest sense. What message would you want to share with donors as our new Chair? Seeing is believing, so join us and experience everything the students are up to. Just as there are many challenges in the world, there is hope and there is no better place to witness it than at the College!
PILLAR THREE SUSTAINABLE HOME CASTLE PHASE II - MIGHTY MORGANNWG - COMMUNITY ACTIONS Building a sustainable home through our connection to the natural and built environment.
Castle Roofs - Phase Two The restoration of St Donat's Castle continues to gather momentum. As conservation work progresses, we are safeguarding one of Wales' most remarkable historic buildings while creating inspiring spaces for students, staff and visitors to enjoy for generations to come. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the seven most vulnerable roofs of St Donat's Castle have now been restored as part of Phase One of the renovation project. The final element of Phase One is the restoration of the magnificent Portcullis interior, which will transform the space into a vibrant hub where students, staff and visitors can discover the Castle's rich history through exhibitions, learning and events.
Phase Two will see the restoration of the Bell Tower roof to protect the Interfaith Room and the restoration of the Lady Anne Tower roof, safeguarding the Gold and Blue Rooms, student support offices and the Principal's office, and finally the two Sea Towers. Together, these are some of the Castle's most important teaching, pastoral and heritage spaces, supporting student wellbeing, learning and the daily life of the College.
We are deeply grateful to the donors, trusts and foundations whose commitment has brought the project to this stage.
Every contribution will help preserve these remarkable spaces, ensuring that St Donat's Castle continues to inspire students, staff and visitors while remaining at the heart of the UWC Atlantic experience for generations to come.
Looking ahead, we hope to begin Phase Two in 2027, subject to securing the remaining £700,000.

RACE FOR RIGHTS
In March, students and staff turned the campus into a hub of energy, resilience and community spirit. In teams, they ran for 24 hours through the day and night, achieving an incredible 7,620.8 km - nearly one-fifth of the Earth’s circumference. Together, they raised an amazing £10,000 for War Child UK, supporting children affected by conflict around the world.
COMMUNITY ACTIONS: Students and staff got stuck in with a tree-planting initiative at Purlong Farm in Llantwit Major, organised by Yalid, the chair of our Sustainability Committee (SusCo) and partnering with the NGO Stump Up For Trees. Working alongside local volunteers, the team rolled up their sleeves to roll out a tangible boost for regional biodiversity. Beyond the hard physical labour, the day was defined by deep human connection. Students spent time brainstorming future collaborations with the NGO, networking with advocates involved in broader regional environmental systems and chatting with community members. The local Mayor stopped by to commend the students for spending their weekend doing genuine, hands-on work.

THE POWER OF TOGETHER... Over the course of a couple of months, our second year Systems Transformation Pathway students Mélia, Milagros, Miracle and Rory have created a collaborative biodiversity project with St Illtyd Primary School in Llantwit Major. The students worked closely with pupils and staff to explore biodiversity in Wales through empathy-building, creativity and hands-on learning. Through games, workshops and outdoor activities, pupils were encouraged to step outside a human-centred view of the world and instead see ecosystems from the perspective of at-risk species.

TEN STUDENTS, TEN FUTURES... UWC Atlantic Endowment: Forever Scholarships - 2025 was an extraordinary year for our endowment, raising more than £6.4 million for our Forever Scholarships Appeal. This remarkable achievement was made possible by two generous donors who established a challenge and match-funding opportunity, inspiring support from across our community. As a result of this match-funding campaign, our UWC Atlantic Endowment now stands at just over £15 million. The endowment payout this year will enable ten exceptional young people to embark on their transformative two-year journey at UWC Atlantic this August. This year's ‘Forever Scholars’ come from across the globe, representing Argentina, Belgium, China, Hong Kong, Mongolia, South Africa, Oman and the United Kingdom. Each student brings a unique story, a strong commitment to making a difference and the potential to create positive change in their communities and beyond. Whether on full scholarship or supporting the gap in the funding of a scholarship, the financial assistance provided through the endowment offers access to students who could not otherwise have the AC experience.
Behind every scholarship is a young person whose future has been transformed by your generosity. Here are just a few reflections from this year’s scholarship cohort. “My scholarship to UWC Atlantic will make all the difference to me. As the daughter of a single mother who works tirelessly through part-time work and various other means just to keep us afloat, this opportunity feels rare and precious.”
“This scholarship is truly something that has changed my life. I come from a working-class family, and if it weren't for this scholarship, an opportunity of this magnitude would never have been possible.”
Will you join our forever scholarship donor community?

United Women for Change United Women for Change is a scholarship and mentoring initiative that supports female students from disadvantaged and conflict-affected backgrounds to access a UWC Atlantic education. Combining financial support with personal guidance, the programme pairs students with female mentors from our alumni and parent community, helping them build confidence, navigate challenges, explore opportunities and prepare for life beyond UWC Atlantic.
Mentoring programme The programme now spans two years, supporting students throughout their UWC Atlantic journey, and continues to demonstrate its value to both students and mentors. Five of the original seven mentors from the pilot cohort have chosen to return for a third year after completing a full two-year mentoring cycle, reflecting the meaningful relationships and lasting impact the programme offers.
Denise AC‘26
For 2026–2027, the programme will include 15 mentors: five returning mentors beginning a new cycle with IB1 students, seven mentors continuing with their IB2 mentees and three new mentors joining the network.

The Oman Scholars Programme Cultivating Tomorrow’s Leaders For more than a decade, the Oman Scholars Programme (formerly the Takatuf Scholars Programme) has been opening the doors of UWC Atlantic to some of Oman's most promising young people. Backed by His Majesty the Sultan of Oman and managed by Takatuf Oman, the programme is a long-term investment in developing future leaders for the Sultanate.
The partnership between the Oman Scholars Programme and the UWC movement is more than a simple scholarship agreement; it is a shared philosophy on the power of education.
Impact of The Oman Scholars Programme
"This partnership reflects a shared belief in education as a force for positive change and is an investment in young people to build Oman for the future." Hilal Al Mamari, Advisor, Programmes and Advancement at Takatuf Oman
UWC Atlantic provides a vital stepping stone between school and university, giving students the confidence, independence and global perspective needed to thrive at leading universities and beyond. The impact is already being felt. Graduates are launching businesses, joining international organisations and bringing valuable global experience back to Oman. Alumni include entrepreneur Omar Al Ismaili (Class of 2017), who founded a fintech business, and Sara Al Lawati (Class of 2022), who has begun her career with BP in Houston.
INSPIRED COMMITMENT
"Sharing Omani culture during Cultural Night was my favourite moment. It captured what UWC is truly about – unity through diversity and celebrating who we are." Hoor, UWC Atlantic Class of 2027
A DECADE OF PARTNERSHIP This year marks 10 years of partnership between Atlantic Pacific and UWC Atlantic, a collaboration built on the belief that practical skills, service and global citizenship can empower young people to make a meaningful difference in the world. Over the past decade, the Atlantic Pacific programme (AP@AC) has equipped students with seamanship, leadership and rescue skills through hands-on training, creating opportunities to put learning into action. For many, those experiences have shaped the way they approach challenges long after leaving UWC Atlantic.
"I think AP@AC prepared me in ways I didn't fully appreciate at the time. Travelling somewhere far away with almost nothing didn't feel as scary. You've got to be able to build relationships from the get-go with a real variety of different people. And I think something that UWC Atlantic gives you is the ability to find common ground with almost anyone."
INSPIRED COMMITMENT
Gabriel from Wales/Sweden was among the first students to take part in what would become AP@AC. The partnership began after alumnus Robin Jenkins (AC'92) spoke to students about the devastation caused by the 2011 tsunami in Japan, which exposed a critical gap in the country's inshore rescue capability. Atlantic Pacific and UWC Atlantic partnered to build an inshore rescue boat inside a modified shipping container. Robin and five students, including Gabriel, then travelled to Japan to deliver the boat and train local responders. This cross-cultural experience laid the foundation for Gabriel's future. After graduating, he volunteered on search and rescue boats in Lesbos during the refugee crisis. When 150 refugees arrived on shore, Gabriel found himself alone, responsible for keeping the crowd calm. With no shared language, he successfully managed the situation by relying on the confidence, adaptability, and trust-building skills he had developed in Japan.
