DIRECTORS NOTE

When I talked on the phone with author Patricia Polacco about adapting her book as our touring show, she described her struggles with dyslexia as a child. As I listened to this accomplished woman in her eighties, who has written and illustrated more than 70 incredible picture books, I could hear the pain she recalled from her childhood when her learning disability made her feel stupid.

There is always something that makes us feel stupid and something else that makes us feel smart. That is what makes Trisha's experience relatable to each of us, whether young and old. I hope this story will remind you of your own smartness and that, as Mr. Falker did for Trisha, you will help others to recognize the brilliance in themselves.
