EDITORIAL Since its first edition in 2003, the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc has represented far more than a simple race: it is a human adventure, born from a shared passion, bringing together thousands of runners every year around a common love for the mountains and the pursuit of personal achievement. What began as a somewhat daring dream between my parents and their friends has, over the years, become a global benchmark in the world of trail running — a symbol of our deep commitment to a discipline that continues to evolve. A pioneering event, the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc is now a true laboratory for innovation, bringing together sporting performance, collective emotion, and respect for territories and communities. Through this event, we proudly uphold essential values: passion, perseverance, solidarity, and above all, an unwavering connection with nature. Every climb, every kilometre covered raises a simple yet fundamental question: what drives us to always go further? Is it the call of the summit, the desire to reconnect with what truly matters, or the deep need to challenge ourselves? Undoubtedly, it is a combination of all these things — at the heart of a demanding passion that engages the body, the mind, and sometimes even the soul. Taking part in a race means embarking on an adventure that extends far beyond the day of the event itself. It involves months — sometimes years — of rigorous preparation, lifestyle adjustments, and physical and mental commitment. This dedication has a lasting impact on our daily lives, profoundly influencing our health, our balance, and our way of living.
As organisers, our mission goes beyond offering you an exceptional course. It also involves ensuring your safety and protecting your health before, during, and after the race. That is why we rely every year on more than 2,600 volunteers, the true pillars of the UTMB family, as well as a large-scale medical team of more than 350 healthcare professionals: 30 doctors, 60 nurses, 60 first responders, and 90 physiotherapists and podiatrists. These specialists, specifically trained in the challenges of trail running in natural environments, are essential to the success of the event.

Since 2007, the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc has also played a leading role in medical research by hosting field studies and scientific investigations. This year again, we are continuing this commitment by opening our races to research projects on sedentary behaviour through the 0to100 project, as well as studies on sleep among trail runners, expanded this year to include an even larger number of participants. The objective is to improve care and anticipate certain health issues encountered by our runners. At the heart of this adventure are all those who make it possible. The runners, of course, but also the volunteers, supporters, spectators, partners, media, local authorities, and valley residents. Everyone contributes in their own way to bringing the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc to life. Everyone carries a share of responsibility for the success of this unique week. But at the very heart of this adventure, it is you — the runners — who play the leading role. You are the first guardians of your own health.
By learning to listen to your body, recognise early warning signs, understand your needs, and respect your limits, you give yourself the best chance of experiencing something truly powerful, rewarding, and sustainable. After twenty-two editions and countless conversations with runners from every background — from elite athletes to passionate amateurs — I can say this with complete confidence: there is no secret formula. The success of a truly memorable race lies, above all, in your own hands. This individual responsibility echoes the collective responsibility we share towards our environment. Running in the mountains also means taking responsibility for protecting them. The HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc therefore continues to pursue a clear mission: reducing its environmental footprint, acting in favour of biodiversity, respecting local communities, raising awareness of responsible practices, supporting local development, and passing on a preserved natural heritage to future generations.
We know that our sport cannot exist without a living, protected natural environment. And equally, the health of our planet depends on the choices we make here and now. Every action matters; every decision has an impact. It is this powerful connection between trail running, ecosystems, and human beings that guides our ambition. As we prepare to open a new chapter, I am filled with deep pride, renewed confidence, and immense excitement. Pride in what we have built together. Confidence in your ability to surpass yourselves. And excitement at the prospect of sharing once again this extraordinary human adventure that inspires an entire region. Your passion, commitment, and determination are the driving forces behind our organisation. Together, let us continue to push boundaries, celebrate the spirit of trail running, take care of one another — and protect the mountains that unite us. Isabelle Viseux-Poletti, Director of HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc. 3

HOKA UTMB® MONT-BLANC HISTORY
HOKA UTMB® MONT-BLANC HISTORY
“Born more than 20 years ago, created by my parents, the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc has been a driving force in ultra-endurance. Since its launch, the organisation has innovated, anticipated, and pioneered new ideas to develop and structure trail running. Every year since 2003, the first notes of Conquest of Paradise fill me with emotion — I can never get enough of the event’s unique and powerful atmosphere. For these runners, for everything they stand for, and for the thousands of reasons that bring them to the start line, we will never stop working with passion and dedication to share this experience while protecting the magnificent and fragile environment of the Mont-Blanc massif.” Isabelle Viseux-Poletti, Director of HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc

HOKA UTMB® MONT-BLANC - PRESS KIT 2026
THE BIRTH OF A RACE THAT BECAME LEGEND: THE UTMB® In the early 2000s, trail running was still the passion of a small community. In Chamonix, a group of nine friends dreamed of running around Mont Blanc — starting in Chamonix, crossing into Italy and Switzerland, and returning home to France. Registered under its original name, the “Ultra-Trail International du Tour du Mont-Blanc” in 2002, the organisers expected 300 entrants. In 2003, 722 runners from 19 nations lined up for the inaugural race. Just three years later, in 2006, applications had soared to 3,400, with 2,500 runners accepted. From one daring idea, the UTMB® has grown into eight races, each with its own unique identity. Today, the event operates at full capacity with 10,000 runners on the start line. Out of respect for safety and for the fragile Mont-Blanc environment, this number will never increase.

The 2025 UTMB® will be remembered as one of the most dramatic editions in the event’s history. Challenging weather conditions forced organisers to neutralise the Pyramides Calcaires section to ensure the safety of all participants. In the women’s race, Ruth Croft made history by claiming her first UTMB title in 22:56:23, becoming the first female athlete ever to win all three UTMB® World Series Finals: OCC, CCC® and UTMB®. In the men’s race, Tom Evans delivered a commanding performance to secure victory in 19:18:56, finally achieving his long-awaited UTMB triumph after several previous unsuccessful attempts. The race was also marked by the withdrawals of several pre-race favourites. The other Finals also delivered world-class competition. Francesco Puppi claimed the CCC® title with a masterclass in race management, while Martyna Mlynarczyk sprinted to victory in one of the closest finishes in the race’s history. On the OCC, held on an alternative course due to the weather conditions, Jim Walmsley and Miao Yao both earned prestigious victories after exceptionally close finishes.

SUSTAINABLE TRAIL RUNNING: DRIVEN BY AMBITION, GUIDED BY RESPONSIBILITY “As organisers of races in the heart of nature, we are among the first to witness the effects of climate change – and it is our responsibility to act. Working for a sustainable future, protecting ecosystems, and respecting the regions we cross has been part of our DNA since day one – a commitment intrinsically linked to the values of trail running and the UTMB Group. We believe in the power of sport and human connection to drive positive change, ensuring our activities benefit the environment and the regions that host us. Our goal is clear: to bring participants together to celebrate the trail running experience while collectively reducing our environmental footprint. From its creation in 2003, the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc has been committed to a comprehensive sustainability strategy built on concrete actions: raising awareness of responsible practices; strengthening waste management; sourcing local products and offering vegetarian options at aid stations; protecting and restoring trails; eliminating single-use plastics; promoting shared transport during event week; engaging with associations and signing sustainability charters; supporting local communities; and implementing a sustainable mobility plan. These commitments are upheld year-round by everyone involved in the event and by the regions that host it.”

ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT
THE ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSION: A CORNERSTONE OF THE EVENT’S LONG-STANDING ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT L’ÉVÉNEMENT. Created in 2006, the Environment Commission remains a cornerstone of the event’s environmental commitment. Comprising volunteers, local officials, and representatives of associations, the commission assesses the impact on trails caused by various users as well as by weather events throughout the year.
2026 PROJECTS TRAIL RESTORATION As part of its commitment to preserving the Tour du MontBlanc and the natural areas crossed by its routes, HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc is continuing its trail restoration programme in 2026, with several projects planned across the three countries: VALAIS (SWITZERLAND) – BETWEEN LA PEULE AND LA FOULY: restoration of the stream crossing (June).
Each year, UTMB implements concrete measures to help ensure trail safety while minimising its impact on the surrounding ecosystem. These initiatives are carried out in close collaboration with local municipalities, intermunicipal authorities, and natural area managers such as Asters. Partnerships are also established to provide on-the-ground workforce, notably with the association En Passant Par la Montagne.
Vallée D’AOSTE (ITALY) – COL CHAVANNE: trail improvements on the descent into the Chavannes Valley (TDS course), in partnership with Vibram.
This initiative is coordinated by the Les Amis de l’UTMB Mont-Blanc association, which also supports other major local projects.
HAUTE-SAVOIE (FRANCE) – LES GRANDS BOIS, LES HOUCHES: Les Grands Bois, Les Houches: completion of the restoration project launched in 2024 and continued in 2025.
VALLÉE D’AOSTE (ITALY) – COURMAYEUR: further details to be announced. SAVOIE (FRANCE): Location to be confirmed..
HAUTE-SAVOIE (FRANCE) – CHAMONIX VALLEY: location to be confirmed. These actions help strengthen trail sustainability, limit erosion, and preserve the natural environments crossed by the event routes. 16

TOUR DU MONT-BLANC VISITOR MONITORING STUDY Launched in 2025 by the Environment Committee of the Les Amis de l’UTMB Mont-Blanc, in partnership with Université Savoie Mont Blanc and Espace Mont-Blanc, the Tour du MontBlanc Observatory aims to better understand visitor patterns to better protect this iconic transboundary trail. Until now, no comprehensive overview of trail use existed across the entire Tour du Mont-Blanc route, with data collected separately in France, Switzerland and Italy through different methods, making comparisons difficult. The first monitoring campaign in 2025 helped consolidate visitor data at the scale of the Mont-Blanc massif and established the foundations of a shared monitoring system.
The visitor monitoring project will continue in 2026, with an expanded programme including 26 automatic counters and more than 70 volunteers involved throughout the summer. The study will further improve understanding of trail use, with a particular focus on quantifying overnight stays in tents (campgrounds and bivouacs) and identifying the different categories of users, including hikers, trail runners and mountain bikers. The Observatory will provide local authorities, protected area managers, researchers and partners with valuable insights to support decisionmaking, improve visitor management and anticipate future changes in use on one of Europe’s most popular longdistance hiking routes.
THE 2025 STUDY REPORT IS AVAILABLE HERE.

GESI CHARTER AND PARIS AGREEMENT: A FRAMEWORK FOR ACTION As a signatory of the GESI Charter in 2017, an initiative supported by the French Ministry of Sport, the Olympic and Paralympic Games and WWF France, the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc is constantly innovating to minimise its environmental impact while preserving the quality of its organisation and offering a memorable trail experience to all runners. The GESI Charter structures its efforts through 15 clear commitments including sustainable mobility, the reduction of single-use plastic, sustainable food, and the fight against discrimination, among others. These commitments form the basis of the event’s environmental strategy and are integrated into every aspect of the organisation.

HOKA UTMB® MONT-BLANC - PRESS KIT 2026
Objective 2030. In 2025 the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc took an important step forward,, committing to a 20% reduction in its carbon footprint by 2030, guided by a strategy inspired by the Paris Agreement. A landmark in the global climate process, the Paris Agreement brought all nations together for the first time to combat climate change and adapt to its effects. Our strategy is built on four pillars: COMMIT, MEASURE, REDUCE et CONTRIBUTE.
Invite every runner to sign a pledge to minimise their impact and respect the environment. Publish an annual carbon report. The 2024 assessment, carried out with Utopies, provides a robust baseline for action. Cut our own emissions, as well as those of our stakeholders (runners, partners, etc.) by intensifying initiatives, raising awareness, and leveraging key drivers to promote sustainable, appropriate practices. Launch a programme to support tangible projects for carbon sequestration or emissions avoidance.

FOUR STRATEGIC PILLARS: TRANSPORT: THE FIRST PILLAR OF ACTION
TRANSPORT: THE FIRST PILLAR OF ACTION
BEFORE AND AFTER
88% of the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc’s carbon footprint comes from transport (across all groups – organisers, runners, support crews, and other stakeholders), making it a top priority for reduction.
The event continues to champion responsible travel, with a particular focus on journeys to and from the Mont Blanc region.
Each year, measures are strengthened to encourage everyone involved — from runners and support crews to organisers, partners, and spectators — to choose more sustainable ways of travelling to, from, and around the event.
Launched in 2025, UTMB® Go supports participants before, during and after the event by helping them plan low-carbon journeys seamlessly. Strategic partnerships with key providers — including TGV Lyria and Alpytransfers — were introduced in 2024 and renewed for 2026, making train travel to the races even more accessible. In addition, targeted pre-event email campaigns highlight the public transport services offered by local authorities, encouraging their use and helping to reduce the overall carbon footprint of travel.

UTMB MOBILITY: MINIMISING IMPACT, SIMPLIFYING TRAVEL
UTMB Mobility is the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc’s concrete commitment to responsible mobility — designed to reduce environmental impact while making travel smoother and more accessible for everyone. Open to all stakeholders — runners, support crews, volunteers, suppliers, partners and spectators — the plan both raises awareness and provides sustainable travel solutions that respect the environment and host regions. It builds on existing public transport networks to support journeys during the race and throughout participants’ stay in the area. Fully aware of the Mont Blanc massif’s fragility, organisers work yearround to reduce car use through clear information and dedicated support. In 2026 nearly €500,000 is once again being invested in this large-scale public transport system, with the aim of keeping more than 5,000 vehicles off the roads during the event — easing congestion in the valleys, reducing air pollution, and preserving the tranquillity of natural sites. Over 80% of the course’s key locations — including Saint-Gervais, Les Contamines-Montjoie, Lac Combal, Arnouvaz, La Fouly, and ChampexLac — are deliberately accessible only by UTMB shuttle buses. A system enabling to protect both local quality of life and the ecological balance of the region. Following the Finals is only possible via UTMB Bus, with just two communes on the UTMB® route remaining accessible by car.
22
NEW FOR 2026 In 2026, UTMB Mobility continues to expand transport solutions for runners, supporters and visitors:
•
•
Enhanced pre-race transport services for all races from the main valley access points: Cluses, Sallanches, Le Fayet and now Les Contamines. (In 2025, Les Contamines was not included in the transport network.) New post-race return services from Chamonix to all of these destinations, an option that was not available in 2025.
•
A partnership with SNCF enabling additional train services on Friday 28 August between Chamonix and SaintGervais, in both directions, with free journeys for all passengers.
•
A partnership with Borini/Arriva on the Chamonix–Courmayeur route, allowing UTMB Mobility pass holders and runners presenting their race bib to use this crossborder service free of charge.

PROTECTING BIODIVERSITY
DEDICATED ENVIRONMENTAL SIGNAGE AND COURSE MARKERS The HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc has developed clear guidelines to ensure that every runner helps protect the Alpine landscape while enjoying their race. Special signage placed along the course educates and informs participants about: ®
- Reducing noise and sudden movements near livestock to avoid disturbing them. - Limiting the use of poles in certain areas to protect trails from erosion. - Closing gates after passing through grazing areas to keep animals secure. - Remaining strictly on marked trails to minimise impact on local flora and fauna.
ZONE SENSIBLE NE COUPEZ PAS
ENVIRONMENTAL AMBASSADORS Throughout the week 20 volunteers, known as Environmental Ambassadors, play a key role in educating, raising awareness and guiding respect for nature. From race bib collection at a dedicated stand, to on-course support along more than 800km of trails, they help participants understand and apply environmental protection measures. They also liaise directly with farmers and herders during the event. These ambassadors cover the entire course twice during the week, ensuring regulations are upheld, monitoring adherence to non-pollution principles, and issuing sanctions where necessary.
TRAIL REHABILITATION In close collaboration with Les Amis de l’UTMB® and VIBRAM, trail rehabilitation work has been carried out at Bertone, Hauteluce, Col de Chavannes, Lac Verney, Les Houches and other sites. This preservation work extends beyond the race routes, with the organisation also working on trails not used in competition, contributing to the protection of the wider mountain landscape.

OPTIMISED AID STATIONS: REGIONAL, SUSTAINABLE AND VEGETARIAN
For the 2026 edition, the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc is once again introducing two 100% vegetarian refreshment points: one at the Col de Balme for the MCC and OCC races, and another at Arnouvaz on the CCC® and UTMB® courses. At both locations, charcuterie will be replaced with local Italian specialities such as focaccia and a vegetarian, gluten-free chickpea galette. The focus is also on responsible sourcing, with priority given to local and organic products to minimise the carbon footprint of transport. In 2024, 80% of all food supplies were regional and sustainably produced, reducing transport emissions and supporting local producers. Most of these products carried recognised quality labels, including Agriculture Biologique, Label Rouge, AOP, or AOC

TAILORED WASTE MANAGEMENT
HOKA UTMB® MONT-BLANC - PRESS KIT 2026
RESPONSIBLE WASTE MANAGEMENT
ADVANCED BIOWASTE AND RECYCLING MANAGEMENT
From the very beginning the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc has been committed to responsible waste management. The removal of disposable cups, introduced in 2007, marked a significant first step, eliminating the use of more than 50,000 plastic cups each year. Building on this, the Bring Your Own Utensils (BYOU) initiative, implemented in 2018, encourages participants to bring their own cutlery, avoiding up to 90,000 plastic utensils at each edition.
A pioneer in organic waste recovery, the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc operates an advanced collection system with six actively managed points, gathering around 700kg of organic waste. The compost is processed by the Chamonix-based association EcoTriVélo and sold to farmers in the Arve Valley. Partnerships have also been established with local specialist organisations such as AREMACS to strengthen on-site waste sorting and recycling, raising awareness and supporting responsible practices throughout the event.
For its 20th anniversary, the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc took another decisive step by eliminating plastic bottles at aid stations, now equipped with machines to carbonate water and soft drinks. This initiative not only removed the need for transporting bottled water but also prevented the use of nearly 15,000 plastic containers. More broadly, the bulk distribution of over 14,000 litres of soft drinks, 5,000 litres of sparkling water, and 5,000 litres of still water avoided the use of more than 18,000 bottles. Additionally, 100% of organic waste from aid stations is composted.
EDUCATION AND INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY IN WASTE MANAGEMENT Established by Jean-Claude Marmier, Leave No Trace – meaning no litter – has been a founding principle of the UTMB® since its launch. To help participants manage their personal waste (packaging, fruit peel, etc.), each runner is given a rubbish bag when collecting their race bib. Penalties apply for non-compliance, with any littering resulting in a one-hour time penalty. This educational approach ensures every participant understands their role in protecting the natural sites along the course.

COMMUNITIES: THE BACKDROP FOR ALL OUR RACES A COLLECTIVE ADVENTURE “The HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc has never been the work of a single organisation – it is an event shaped collectively, with and thanks to the regions that host it. From the very beginning, nothing would have been possible without the active involvement of the municipalities and local communities of the Mont Blanc region in France, Switzerland and Italy. This enduring collaboration is at the heart of our operations: every major decision is made in consultation with the aim of respecting local characteristics, maintaining balance, and ensuring the well-being of residents. Together, we foster an authentic relationship between runners and the mountains, one that is unique to each valley crossed. This cooperation not only guarantees safety and a high-quality experience for all, but also enhances the natural and cultural heritage, while embracing the needs and expectations of the regions. Promoting sustainable, respectful trail running means, above all, continuing to move forward hand in hand with those who make this adventure possible.” David Poletti, Head of Operations and Regional Relations
Today, the event directly involves 18 communities. Since its inception, the organisers have worked hand in hand with these partner municipalities, whose role is essential to the smooth running of the event. Their technical and logistical support is invaluable, encompassing access to roads and trails, public spaces and infrastructure, the provision of equipment, and human resources through municipal teams. Equally important is the quality of the hospitality extended to all along the Tour du Mont Blanc.

CONTROLLING AND LIMITING EVENT NOISE LEVELS To ensure the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc remains a true celebration without negatively impacting local communities, the organisation works hard to manage noise in Chamonix, with reinforced efforts and strict measures in place between 22:00 and 08:00. – all achieved in close collaboration with the City of Chamonix. These include: - Volunteer Public Order Ambassadors, trained by both the organisers and the Gendarmerie, deployed across the town to assist, raise alerts if needed, and keep noise within acceptable limits; -C lear signage displayed at key points throughout the streets; - Controlled sound during the day, with loudspeakers switched off except during key moments such as race starts, when noise is focused under the arch and at the start and finish lines.

INCLUSIVITY Since 2022, the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc has hosted the UTMB® World Series Finals, benefiting from the full range of policies introduced across the circuit to support all athletes – from first-time participants to worldclass elites.
ENCOURAGING FEMALE PARTICIPATION The HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc’s commitment to women in trail running grows stronger each year. This dedication is reflected in both the race experience and its organisation, with women-only WCs at the start, finish and aid stations, private changing spaces at every aid station, and feminine hygiene kits available along the course – all designed to ensure comfort and dignity for every female runner. The organisation is equally committed to balanced representation ensuring a 50/50 gender ratio across all communication platforms – from UTMB Live commentary to interviews and race coverage – so that women’s stories, performances and voices are given equal prominence.
AN EXPANDED PARENTHOOD SUPPORT POLICY Following the introduction of its pioneering Pregnancy Policy in 2023, the UTMB® World Series is expanding its commitment to inclusion with the launch of a broader Parenthood Support Policy. Developed in collaboration with the Pro Trail Runners Association (PTRA), the policy addresses the specific needs of elite athletes while applying to all runners across the UTMB World Series circuit.
30
HOKA UTMB® MONT-BLANC - PRESS KIT 2026
SUPPORTING EVERY PATH TO PARENTHOOD The new policy now encompasses the different paths to parenthood and family life, including pregnancy, medically assisted reproduction (MAR/IVF), adoption and surrogacy. It is designed to support all parents, regardless of their level of competition or family circumstances.
“We want every athlete, regardless of their status, to be able to embrace parenthood without having to give up their passion for trail running. This policy is designed not only to support runners, but also to help drive a more inclusive and equitable future for our sport.”
This evolution represents an important step in the continued professionalisation of trail running, establishing a clear and consistent framework that safeguards sporting fairness while respecting athletes’ personal and family journeys.
Nicolas Lagrange, CSR Manager, UTMB® World Series
For both parents, whether in the context of pregnancy, adoption, surrogacy or medically assisted reproduction, the policy provides the option to:
·· · ·
Receive a full refund of their race entry. Defer their race registration to a future edition. For lottery-based races, receive a full refund and benefit from priority entry for a future edition. For top elite women, have their UTMB Index frozen for up to five years.
Full details and eligibility criteria are available at utmb.world/inclusion
SUPPORTING THE PROFESSIONALISATION OF TRAIL RUNNING As trail running continues to grow and become increasingly professional, the UTMB World Series is committed to ensuring that maternity and the journey to parenthood do not hinder an athlete’s career. From June onwards, elite athletes will be able to freeze their UTMB Index for up to five years while on their path to parenthood. Their UTMB Index and ranking at the time of their request will be preserved and displayed on their athlete profile on utmb.world throughout the freeze period. Freezing the UTMB Index ensures that elite athletes pursuing parenthood are not unfairly disadvantaged in the rankings and can return to competition with the status they had earned before taking time away from racing. 31
NEW FOR 2026
HOKA UTMB® MONT-BLANC LAUNCHES A RESPONSIBLE TRAIL RUNNING CAMPAIGN
TRAIL RUNNING IS ABOUT FREEDOM. BUT NOT WITHOUT RESPONSIBILITIES.
Since 2003, the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc has been deeply rooted in the Mont-Blanc valleys, spanning France, Italy and Switzerland. The trails used by runners are also places where people live and work, home to local communities, shepherds, and fragile ecosystems. For the 2026 edition, HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc is launching a campaign to raise awareness of responsible trail running practices. With humour and self-deprecation, a series of illustrations by Des Bosses et Des Bulles highlights simple actions that help protect and respect the landscapes, wildlife, and communities that welcome the event: respect the trails · slow down near livestock · close gates behind you · take your waste with you · share the trails and natural spaces. “One of our key challenges is ensuring that our event continues to be rooted sustainably in the region, with respect for the people who live here and the natural environment that welcomes us. We are putting many measures in place, but we cannot achieve this alone: every runner, supporter and spectator who comes to share this experience has a role to play. By taking collective responsibility, we can preserve what makes this event so unique.” Isabelle Viseux-Poletti, Director of HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc 32
HOKA UTMB® MONT-BLANC - PRESS KIT 2026
A campaign designed to make people smile, make them think, and help trail running thrive in harmony with its environment. Discover the campaign and responsible trail running practices: montblanc.utmb.world/good-practices
The campaign will be rolled out throughout the summer across the event’s communication channels and on the ground in the host communities. The initiative is also intended to be extended across the UTMB® World Series circuit.

INCLUSIVITY POLICY FOR ATHLETES WITH DISABILITIES
THE RETURN OF TEAM ADAPTIVE BY UTMB IN 2026
This policy was developed in close collaboration with athletes with disabilities, following an extensive consultation process with sportsmen and women from a range of disciplines, including Amy Winters.
Following two landmark editions, the initiative will reach a new milestone in 2026. This year, several Team members will take on challenges that have never before been attempted on some of the most demanding races of the week, with projects that could represent a defining moment in the history of disability inclusion in ultra-trail running.
It includes: · A dedicated race for athletes with disabilities as part of the UTMB® World Series Finals · Runner-guides to support athletes in achieving their goals, with guides receiving a free race bib · The option to contact Athlete Services to request tailored arrangements – for example, collecting a race bib outside official hours or accessing a reserved start area to avoid the crowds
The 2026 Adaptive Team UTMB brings together 15 athletes from several countries, competing across the different races of the HOKA® UTMB Mont-Blanc. Living with visible or invisible, physical or neurological, chronic or acquired disabilities, these women and men embody three core principles: making disability the norm rather than the exception; putting the collective first; and inspiring through action. EXTRAORDINARY JOURNEYS AT THE START LINE OF HOKA UTMB MONT-BLANC The 2026 edition marks another important step forward for the Adaptive UTMB Team, with athletes competing across every race format at HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc while taking on a series of unprecedented challenges. Some return after making history in previous editions, determined to push their limits even further, while others join the team for the first time with ambitious goals of their own. The Adaptive UTMB Team no longer simply proves that it is possible—it is redefining what «possible» means.

SOLIDARITY
THE SOLIDARITY COMMISSION Since 2003 the organisation has strived to combine the energy of the event with a deep sense of mutual support. At the foot of Mont Blanc, we are guided by the mountaineering spirit of solidarity – where climbers roped together rely on each other for safety – and a shared determination to help each person achieve their own victory. This commitment took shape right from the start with the creation of a Solidarity Commission, set up to channel and structure charitable initiatives. Initially focused on runner donations – allowing participants to round up their registration fees to support associations connected to the races – it later supported the launch of initiatives such as Charity Bibs and today continues to oversee the selection of projects and beneficiary associations. The associations and projects supported address fundamental needs such as education, access to water, health, gender equality and medical research. Their work spans local, national and international levels across the three countries on the event route: France, Italy and Switzerland.
«Over the years, we’ve seen runners become increasingly engaged in supporting charities – not only through the Charity Bibs, which are snapped up every year, but also through runner donations that can be made right up until the start of the event. Since 2014, nearly €4 million has been raised for around forty local associations. It’s a figure we’re proud of, and one that motivates us to go even further in the years ahead. That’s the true spirit of sport!” Sylvie Barquant, Chair of The Solidarity Commission 36
HOKA UTMB® MONT-BLANC - PRESS KIT 2026
CHARITY BIBS: RUNNING FOR A CAUSE Among the flagship initiatives, Charity Bibs offer runners the chance to register at a higher entry fee, with most of the amount donated directly to charities. In 2025, Charity Bibs have been made available for the OCC, CCC® and UTMB® Finals, 180 of which are managed by the Solidarity Commission. This year, demand was exceptional: 285 bibs sold out in just one hour, raising €630,100 for 15 local, national and international associations. Each organisation will receive between €10,000 and €40,000 — vital support that demonstrates the deep commitment of the UTMB® community. The Solidarity Commission ensures that the three host countries — France, Switzerland and Italy — are fairly represented, while covering a broad range of causes including health, inclusion, education, gender equality and humanitarian aid. By running for these causes, participants give added meaning to their challenge, transforming their sporting commitment into an act of solidarity. 2025 BENEFICIARIES: • F rance (Haute-Savoie): En passant par la montagne, Access Mont-Blanc, Arve Réfugiés, Banque Alimentaire de HauteSavoie, Humatem, SEBIO Solidarité Secours en Montagne, Les Amis de L’UTMB Mont-Blanc (Environment & Medical)
“Solidarity has always been one of UTMB Group’s core values. We are proud to have introduced Charity Bibs at the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc and, more broadly, at nearly half of the UTMB World Series events to date. This initiative allows runners to live the UTMB experience while actively contributing to a collective effort. As organisers of major public events with global visibility, we have a responsibility to lead the way with actions that foster greater equity, solidarity and mutual support within our community. Our ambition is to go further still by developing similar initiatives across the entire UTMB World Series circuit.” Nicolas Lagrange, Head of CSR, UTMB Group
SMALL DONATIONS, BIG IMPACT: ROUNDING UP TO GIVE BACK Alongside the Charity Bibs, all participants can choose to round up their registration fee to support three additional associations: the Fondation Communautaire du Val d’Aoste, ARFEC (Association Romande des Familles d’Enfants atteints d’un Cancer), and the Rotary for a project dedicated to children with Down’s syndrome. Thanks to this simple gesture, each association receives between €7,000 and €8,000.
• Switzerland: Sport et Handicap Martigny •N ational & International: Association Française des Hémophiles, Fondation pour le Logement des Défavorisés, Première Urgence International, Petit Cœur de Beurre, Ultra Sports Science, UTMB Cares 37
HEALTH AND SAFETY AT THE HEART OF THE EVENT
THE MEDICAL COMMISSION
Created in 2007, the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc Medical Commission plays a vital role in supporting runners’ health and raising awareness. It validates research projects, updates medical protocols, and produces practical guides to help athletes understand specific conditions, recognise early symptoms and risk factors, and adopt safer practices. Thanks to the races – unique real-world laboratories – the Commission has already contributed to more than 50 medical studies. In 2026 its work will focus again on sleep management with more candidates, and on the role of physical activity across generations and its contribution to preventing sedentary lifestyles through the 0to100 project. HEALTH AND SAFETY
During the event, a comprehensive health and safety system is in place to monitor and assist runners across all races throughout the week. Nearly 350 health professionals are mobilised, including 150 first-aiders, 65 nurses, 70 physiotherapists and podiatrists, and 35 doctors. The network covers 53 checkpoints along the routes, supported by 120 radios for emergency teams and 60 computers tracking the progress of the 10,000 runners. In Chamonix, special security measures are implemented to manage the flow of participants and spectators. This system combines volunteer public order ambassadors, private security agents, and contracted gendarmes. The HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc organisation works in close collaboration with the Gendarmerie to secure key moments of the event and ensure the safety of both athletes and the public.

THE PROFESSIONALISATION OF TRAIL RUNNING
HOKA UTMB® MONT-BLANC - PRESS KIT 2026
FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR ELITE RUNNERS
Throughout the year, the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc organisation remains attentive to the needs of the entire trail running community — from passionate amateurs to the world’s elite. Its mission is to help athletes build a pathway to professional trail running and to support them at every stage of their careers.
Launched in June 2024, the HOKA Prize Purse marked a significant step forward in supporting professional athletes. Prize money across the UTMB® World Series — including the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc Finals — has increased 2.2 times since its creation. Rewards are distributed fairly, with equal prize money for men and women and parity across all distances. To recognise outstanding performances, the top 10 men and women in the OCC and CCC® will be rewarded equally. The UTMB® — the legendary 171km race with 10,000m of ascent — carries a higher prize purse in recognition of its unique scale and prestige.
ANTI-DOPING POLICY: A FIRST IN TRAIL RUNNING
As trail running evolves and gains professionalism, ensuring fair play has become essential. In 2024, UTMB Group introduced the sport’s first dedicated anti-doping policy, built on both testing and prevention measures. This pioneering programme required an investment of nearly €100,000 per year.
2025
Elite athletes also benefit from a dedicated advisory service, designed to answer questions and guide them towards the races best suited to their objectives.
39
THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE THE HOKA UTMB® MONT-BLANC POSSIBLE 2,600 VOLUNTEERS: THE EVENT’S GUARDIAN ANGELS
350 HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS
The HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc depends on the dedication of 2,600 volunteers, without whom the event simply could not take place. Their contribution is invaluable, and the organisation is deeply grateful for their commitment.
To supervise, monitor and assist the runners across the various races during the week, the organization mobilizes almost 350 health professionals, including 150 firstaiders, 65 nurses, 70 physiotherapists and chiropodists, and 35 doctors.
Volunteers take on a wide variety of roles — from mountain posts, medical and rescue support, and logistics, to catering and more. For many, it is also a once-in-a-lifetime experience: the chance to be part of one of the world’s most extraordinary trail running events, while sharing in the spirit of camaraderie that unites thousands of people from around the globe.
There are 53 checkpoints along the routes, 120 radios deployed among emergency personnel and 60 computers monitoring the 10,000 runners taking part in the races.
A CHALLENGE WHERE YOU’RE NEVER ALONE A runner’s first encounter is always with themselves. How will I react to such a distance? Will I have the mental and physical strength I need? Will I make it to the finish? These questions echo in the minds of every runner as they set out on this extraordinary adventure. But trail running is never a solitary experience. It forges bonds — fleeting or lasting — between runners, friendships that may last an hour, a night, or a lifetime. Each step of the way, runners support one another in the pursuit of their dream. Add to this the passionate encouragement of the public, the tireless dedication of volunteers, and the generosity of those who live on the slopes of the Mont Blanc Massif — all giving their time and warmth to urge runners on.
“As well as caring for people, you have to know how to listen, to advise, to comfort, and to console those who have had to withdraw from the race. When I know we’ve helped a runner reach the finish line, we share in that finisher’s bib with the same joy and pride as the runner themselves.” Isabelle Paucot, Head of Nurses at the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc

PARTICIPANTS’ CHARTER: UNLOCKING THE EXTRAORDINARY STARTS WITH ALL OF US.
The HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc is more than just a race: it is a collective adventure where every runner, volunteer, and spectator plays a role. In 2025, the organization unveilled its first Participants’ Charter, a reminder of the values at the heart of the event: Respect the game. Respect others. Respect the environment. Respect yourself. Lend a hand. And above all, share the magic.
Beyond sporting performance, this charter embodies the spirit of the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc: a gathering where individual achievement meets collective responsibility, creating a unique experience in the heart of the Alps.

NOTABLE FIGURES BROUGHT TO LIGHT BY THE HOKA UTMB® MONT-BLANC The HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc stands as the ultimate reference in world trail running. This week-long festival of the sport brings together 8 iconic events, each with its own unique identity: UTMB®, TDS®, CCC®, OCC, MCC, ETC, YCC and PTL®. Here, talent is put to the test – and only the very best can triumph. These 8 legendary races on the slopes of Mont Blanc captivate runners and fans alike with the emotions, intensity and competition they inspire. Demanding by nature, the courses require athletes to call upon every physical and mental resource in the high-altitude environment, creating an at-

mosphere found nowhere else in the world. Whether finishing first or last, what matters most is that every participant emerges transformed. There is a special magic in seeing every runner raise their arms in pride as they cross the finish line. This same spirit of inspiration is shared by the greatest trail runners on the planet. While all who finish become heroes in their own right, the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc has revealed extraordinary athletes who have shaped the history of the sport:
ELITES
Krissy Moehl (US) A pioneer of the discipline and a true source of inspiration for her peers, she was the first woman to win the UTMB® in 2003, an achievement she repeated in 2009.
HOKA UTMB® MONT-BLANC - PRESS KIT 2026
Dawa Sherpa (NP) As the winner of the first edition in 2003, he is the original... the one who started it all. He remains a point of reference.
Marco Olmo (IT) Winner in 2006 and 2007, he is a visionary, and his commitment and minimalism are representative of the spirit of the trail.
Tsuyoshi Kaburaki (JP) 12th in 2007 on his first participation, then 4th in 2008, he is the first Japanese entry to achieve a podium finish with a magnificent 3rd place in 2009.
Kilian Jornet (ES) The first young runner (aged 20) to shine in ultra-running, he brought trail running into the modern era with professionalism, training and communication.
Scott Hawker (NZL) « Scotty » Hawker showed the full extent of his talent at UTMB® 2019, breaking into the top 10 from the halfway point, to finish 3rd in Chamonix behind Xavier Thévenard and Pau Capell.

ELITES
Miao Yao (CH) At just 23 years old, this young Chinese woman won the 2018 edition of the CCC® with tremendous style. She finished the event 11th overall and set a new event record (11h57).
Min QI (CH) Hailing from Yunnan, Min Qi enjoyed a magnificent breakaway at the CCC®. Second across the finish line, he waited for his partner Miao Yao to take a finisher photo – a gesture that put them both on the map. 56
Pau Capell (ES) After winning the 2016 TDS® and finishing 3rd in the 2018 CCC®, he made his mark by winning the 2019 UTMB®. He planned his race meticulously, took maximum risks, and covered the 171 km alone from start to finish.
Tim Tollefson (US) After a remarkable finish at the CCC® in 2015, Tim celebrated a 3rd place at the UTMB®. A fan of the event, he returned in 2017 and put in an incredible performance to finish in 3rd place behind Kilian and François.
Rory Bosio (US) She is the only woman to have broken into the UTMB® top 10 overall, coming 7th in 2013. She has brought a «New Age» feel to the discipline.
Elisabeth Hawker (UK) A trail runner in a league of her own, she is the only athlete to have won the UTMB® five times - and to have reached the podium six times!
François D’Haene (FR) One of the world’s top trail runners, he won his first UTMB® in 2012, and his second in 2014. In 2017, he confirmed his status as one of the greats, winning the toughest edition in the history of the event. In 2021 he added a 4th victory to his palmares.
Xavier Thévenard (FR) He embodies the popular trail craze and is the only athlete to have won all four categories: the UTMB® (2013, 2015, 2018), the CCC® (2010), the TDS® (2014) and the OCC (2016).
Caroline Chaverot (FR) She won everything in 2016 (UTWT®, IAU World Trail Championships), and her UTMB® victory (20th overall) made her the darling of the general public.
Francesca Canepa (IT) After finishing 2nd in the 2012 edition of the UTMB®, the Italian added to her already remarkable list of achievements by winning the UTMB® in 2018.
Robert Hajnal (ROU) He exploded onto the scene in 2018 with an unexpected 2nd place in the UTMB®. The Romanian bided his time, waiting for most of the favorites to yield to this edition’s demanding conditions, and then pounced into the leading group to finish on the podium.
Marcin Swierc (PL) The Polish runner demonstrated his talent in 2017 by finishing 2nd in the CCC®. And a year later won the TDS® in record time (13h24), beating some of the discipline’s top athletes.
ELITES
Courtney Dauwalter (US) A 3-time winner of the UTMB® (2019, 2021, 2023), she made history in 2023 by winning a hat-trick of ultra-trail events with 1st place finishes in the women’s category at the Western States, Hardrock and UTMB®. To date, no other runner, male or female, has won all three ultra-trails in the same season.
HOKA UTMB® MONT-BLANC - PRESS KIT 2026
Mathieu Blanchard (FR) Arriving on the ultra-trail scene in 2017, Mathieu’s learning curve over this distance was vertical. «I just can’t believe it,» he said at the finish line. « This podium result at the UTMB® was a dream; I didn’t think it would happen so soon! »
Jim Walmsley (US) In 2023, he won the UTMB® in 19 hours and 37 minutes, becoming the first American man to take the podium.
Vincent Bouillard (FRA) To everyone’s surprise, he won the 2024 UTMB® in 19:54. Previously unknown to the wider public, this stunning victory propelled him into the global elite.
Ruth Croft (NZL) Ruth Croft claimed her first UTMB® title in 2025, crossing the finish line in 22:56 and becoming the first woman in history to win all three UTMB® World Series finals (OCC, CCC®, UTMB®).

QUALIFICATION SYSTEM: RUNNING STONES — A MATTER OF EXPERIENCE Since 2007 the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc has implemented a qualification system designed to regulate entries, ensure runner safety, and guarantee a meaningful race experience. Initially based on prior trail-running achievements, it evolved in 2009 into a points-based model, with runners earning points from races completed in the two years before the event. The required number of points gradually increased until 2022.
With the launch of the UTMB® World Series, this system was redesigned with the introduction of Running Stones. These offer runners direct access to the lottery for the UTMB® World Series Finals held annually at the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc. Entry to the UTMB®, CCC® or OCC now requires at least one Running Stone earned by EVENTS completing a UTMB® World Series race.

CHAMONIX The Communauté de Communes de la Vallée de Chamonix Mont-Blanc makes a major contribution, both financially and logistically, to this international event, which has become a global benchmark in sport. Organised in the heart of an exceptional natural environment, the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc, together with local authorities, has introduced a range of measures to limit its environmental impact and reduce pollution. More broadly, the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Valley has for many years been firmly committed to tackling climate and environmental change, working alongside institutional partners and neighbouring cross-border regions. In 2012, it became the first mountain authority to adopt a voluntary Territorial Climate and Energy Plan (PCET). By 2016, its ambition was clearly set out: to make the Chamonix Valley a Positive Energy Territory (TEPOS) for the benefit of residents and visitors alike.
80
The Valley pursues an active policy to expand public transport and promote low-carbon mobility. It supports improvements in energy efficiency across both public and private buildings, backed by targeted advice and significant financial aid. Today, the region runs on 100% renewable electricity; public buildings are heated with natural gas; hydroelectric plants are being built; a methanisation unit is soon to follow; and initiatives such as the Toits des Cimesvillage power station are expanding renewable energy production. In 2021, to strengthen and accelerate its commitment, the Communauté de Communes, with support from ADEME, launched the Territoire Engagé Transition Écologique programme — a management framework designed to bring public policies into alignment and ensure that all stakeholders (elected officials, departments, partners, etc.) work more closely on issues of climate, air quality and energy.
Since 2022, ‘transition workshops’ have engaged with professionals across the Valley, equipping them with the tools and resources to drive the green transition. The goals of the Communauté de Communes de la Vallée de Chamonix are clear: to drastically reduce climate impacts and pollutant emissions, and to safeguard both the quality of life of its residents and the exceptional character of this unique region.
