INTRODUCTION P.2

WELCOME TO THE 23RD EDITION OF HOKA UTMB® MONT-BLANC! It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to this new edition of HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers, partners, service providers, local authorities, tourism and mountain professionals, mountain hut guardians, and alpine farmers who make this event possible. And of course, thank you to all of you, runners, supporters, and spectators, for joining us this year and helping make this week an extraordinary adventure. Your passion and commitment are the driving force behind this remarkable human adventure.

SHARING EMOTIONS, TOGETHER Since 2003, HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc has brought together thousands of trail running and mountain enthusiasts. For the 23rd time, we come together to celebrate this extraordinary sport and its values of pushing personal limits, solidarity, and respect. This week is a celebration where children and adults, amateur and elite runners alike, can experience unforgettable emotions together. To ensure this remains a celebration for everyone, we invite you to respect the magnificent region that welcomes us and the people who call it home.

TOGETHER, REDUCING OUR IMPACT Reducing our impact is a strong commitment shared by everyone at UTMB Group, every day of the year. During event week, we need your support to help make a difference. Once again this year, we’ve done everything possible to ensure you can travel to and around the event without the need for a personal vehicle. That’s why we’re investing €500,000 in our UTMB Mobility transportation plan. In 2025, more than 13,000 people traveled on UTMB buses, helping reduce road congestion and preserve the tranquility of the surrounding natural areas. Let’s make that number even higher in 2026, we’re counting on you to take up the challenge! Regional and sustainably sourced aid stations, zero single-use plastic bottles, food waste recovery, and much more: discover all of our commitments on www.montblanc.utmb.world/fr/impact-report.

PROTECTING OUR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT

4

Protecting the natural environment is one of our highest priorities. Throughout the year, our organization actively carries out environmental preservation initiatives. Working alongside local associations, we help restore and maintain the trails to ensure they remain accessible and protected for years to come. During event week, our Environmental Ambassadors cover more than 800 km of trails, installing dedicated signage in environmentally sensitive areas and helping keep the trails clean. As participants and visitors, we invite you to discover this remarkable region with care and respect. Please respect the local wildlife and flora, as well as all private property and agricultural land along the course. Dispose of all your waste responsibly and leave nature exactly as you found it, so that everyone can continue to enjoy it.

CREWING AND ASSISTANCE Assistance is only permitted at certain aid stations (*). You may only be assisted by one person at a time, and only in the area specifically reserved for this purpose, on presentation of the “Assistance” ticket and at the discretion of the station manager (the rest of the aid station is strictly reserved for runners). The “Assistance” tickets are given to the runner in the race number envelope. The runner is then free to give each ticket to the person of his/her choice.

Again, to ensure equality between competitors, whatever their position, it is forbidden to be accompanied during all or part of the race by a person who is not a participant, outside of the zones of tolerance which are clearly marked in proximity to the aid stations. This authorizes short walks for family and friends but forbids pace setters. Race stewards are positioned at several points along the route and can give real time penalties if the regulations are not respected.

1 TICKET PER ASSISTANCE STATION 1 TICKET = 1 PERSON

ACCESS ONLY BY UTMB MOBILITY BUS –

Your assistant has the right to one piece of hand luggage (a bag with a maximum volume of 30 liters) in which to transport the necessary products (food, clothing…). Assistance provided by a professional team, or any other pro, medical or paramedical – even if they are relatives - is strictly forbidden. This is to ensure equity amongst all the runners, and to prevent aid stations from becoming a Formula 1 pit-stops. This doesn’t mean that your family and friends cannot support you along the way. Simply, so that everything runs smoothly, you are asked to respect the instructions given by the aid station team leader.

The organization will provide only still and sparkling water or energy drinks for refilling bottles or hydration packs. Other beverages must be consumed on-site only.

PICK UP Chamonix Chamonix Centre Sportif from Tuesday 25th at 06:00 to Thursday 27th at 23:59 from Friday 28th at 9:00 to Sunday 30th at 19:00 You will have 1 BAG for personal items to be used at Beaufort. During the race, you must collect your bag upon arrival at Beaufort and drop it off at the designated location when leaving so it can be transported back to Chamonix. The bag should be dropped off near the start area in Courmayeur before the race begins. No poles, valuables, or fragile items are allowed in the bags. Only bags provided by the organization will be transported. The timing of the bag’s return depends on logistical constraints and may be delayed, especially if a runner drops out early in the race. Please be patient and respectful of the volunteers’ work.

Three types of aid stations are offered:

• Drink-only aid stations: still water, sparkling

water, Yaute Cola Bio made by Brasseurs Savoyards in the Mont-Blanc region (distributed with the Lokipic solution), Näak Drink Mix Boost neutral-flavoured drink, coffee, tea and vermicelli soup. • Full aid stations: drinks (as above) + Näak Ultra Energy bars and waffles, sweet cakes, chocolate, bananas, watermelon, apples, raisins, savoury biscuits, local cheese and cured meats, and bread. • In addition, a hot meal is available at Beaufort for the TDS. A gluten-free option will be available upon request. A post-race mountain meal is served in Chamonix in the finish area.

AID STATION BREAKDOWN

TDS® CREWING AND ASSISTANCE

ACCOMPANYING ALONG THE ROUTE

Assistance is only permitted at certain aid stations (*).

Your assistant has the right to one piece of hand luggage (a bag with a maximum volume of 30 liters) in which to transport the necessary products (food, clothing…). Assistance provided by a professional team, or any other pro, medical or paramedical – even if they are relatives - is strictly forbidden. This is to ensure equity amongst all the runners, and to prevent aid stations from becoming a Formula 1 pitstops. This doesn’t mean that your family and friends cannot support you along the way. Simply, so that everything runs smoothly, you are asked to respect the instructions given by the aid station team leader.

Due to possible waiting time and difficult weather conditions, children under the age of 3 are not allowed on the shuttles.

PETS Pets are not allowed in the base camps.

REGULATIONS RACE-BIBS UTMB runners must present their red-light device at Bib Collection. Race-bibs are given to each runner upon presentation of: • A valid photo ID • The backpack that you will be using during the race, so that we can attach the gps tracker to it. You must indicate where you will pick up your bib in your Runner Account online prior to the Event. The race-bib must be worn on the chest or stomach and must remain permanently and completely visible during the whole race. It must always be placed on top of all clothing and must not be positioned on a leg or on the pack. The runner’s name and partner’s logos must not be altered or hidden. The bib is the pass to access the shuttles, buses, aid stations, medical points, rest rooms, showers, bag drop-off or pick-up areas... The bib is only withdrawn if the runner refuses to comply with the race director’s decision. If the runner abandons the race, the bib is cut and deactivated..

PORTABLE CUP Designed to avoid wastage of disposable cups throughout the race, each runner must provide their own, with a minimum capacity of 15cl. Attention, gourds/water bottles or water flasks with screw/clip top are not accepted as beakers!

«BRING YOUR OWN UTENSILS» The organization will not distribute any disposable cutlery, beakers/cups or bowls at aid stations and refreshment posts. You are asked to carry your own utensils if you wish to eat hot food (soup, pasta).

REGULATIONS

BYOU

74

ARE YOU SPONSORED? C’est très bien, mais vous ne pouvez le faire apparaître That’s great but you can strictly only display it on your clothes and equipment used during the race. No flags in the name of X, or banners for Y.

CONTROL Each runner will be supplied with 2 electronic chips and a bracelet. Certain check points are automatic, others are manual. Unexpected controls will be carried out by the organization. Runners who are not permanently in possession of their chips and wrist-bands will be penalized.

ENVIRONNEMENT Help us to conserve the natural surroundings; do not drop your litter along the race route. We all share the responsibility of keeping the mountains clean. Do not forget to carry bag in which to put your rubbish between two rubbish-bin points. Clear course markings and signage are installed along the route. It is strictly mandatory to stay on the marked trails and not cut corners.

RESPECTING THE REGULATIONS AND THE RACE STEWARDS As in previous years, the volunteers are there to help you, but also to ensure that the rules are respected. Among them are the Commissaires de Course (race stewards). Some of them have specific duties concerning the immediate application of real time penalties due if the rules are not respected. It is important to understand that the penalties which entail a stop are applied during the race! For the race leaders this represents a possible descent in the ranking, and the slowest runners this could mean missing the next time barrier. The Race Stewards have the right to check your mandatory equipment at the start and at any point along the route. If you are missing an element of the mandatory safety equipment (no minimum water reserve of a minimum of 1 liter, no waterproof jacket with hood, no torch, no survival blanket, no mobile/cell phone) you will be immediately disqualified. To know more about the penalties, read the complete regulations on MONTBLANC.UTMB.WORLD In case of exceptional or particular events, penalties will be decided with the race directors..

CUT-OFF TIMES

REPATRIATION

These are calculated to enable participants to reach the finish in the maximum time allowed. They are indicated on the various documents provided. The cut-off time indicated is the deadline by which competitors must leave the checkpoint. The organisers may modify the cut-off times for safety reasons. Runners will be notified by SMS and/or email. No runner will be allowed to leave a checkpoint behind the sweepers.

The organisation does not provide repatriation by car or 4x4 (except for medical reasons and on the decision of the medical officer or head of station). Runners who abandon at a mountain station must return as quickly as possible and by their own means to the nearest repatriation point where the organisation’s buses are available.

LIGHTING For better night vision, the route markers have a yellow reflective element that will illuminate when your headlamp shines on it. In 2017, the organising team also introduced green markers. These are a reminder that you are in a sensitive natural area. CAUTION: if you no longer see the route markers, turn back! Out of respect for the environment, no paint will be used on the trails.

REST AND SHOWERS You can only take a hot shower at the finish. On the course, showers are only available on medical advice. The rest areas provided by the organisers will be strictly reserved for runners who are racing or who have just finished. Under no circumstances will they provide overnight accommodation. Access to the rest area will only be possible for runners who have their own sleeping bag liner.

Unless you are injured, you must not leave the trail other than at a checkpoint. In this case, you MUST notify the checkpoint supervisor, who will permanently cancel your race number and collect your rucksack chip. The runner must keep their cancelled race number as it serves as an access pass to the shuttles, buses, meals and treatment rooms. Repatriation will be decided in consultation with the station manager, in accordance with the following general rules: • Buses are available at certain feed stations indicated by a “bus” pictogram on the timetable for runners who have abandoned the race and want to return to Chamonix. • Runners who abandon the race at another aid or feed station, but whose state of health does not require them to be evacuated, must return to the nearest repatriation point as quickly as possible and by their own means. • In the event that a runner abandons the race before a checkpoint, it is imperative to return to the previous checkpoint and report withdrawal from the race to the station manager. If, while returning to the previous checkpoint, the runner encounters sweepers, it is the sweepers who will cancel the race number. The runner is then outside the organisation’s area of control. New: for better feedback, you can also declare your withdrawal on the application. LIVETRAIL® Please note, however, that the withdrawal procedure described above also applies to runners that have the application.

ABANDONING THE RACE

MANDATORY EQUIPMENT Why is mandatory equipment required During the month of August in the Mont-Blanc area, the weather can get very hot (more than 30°C), or very cold (up to -10°C experienced above 2000m), with rain, hail or even snow. Your equipment must be suitable for confronting all types of conditions and allow you to spend one or two nights outdoor, on the race route, depending on your speed of progress. In case of an incident, your equipment must also allow you to wait for the rescue team in sufficiently safe conditions. You must carry the mandatory equipment with you during the whole race - from start to finish - or you will be penalized. Race stewards may check your equipment at any time during the race. Don’t forget that the equipment we request includes an essential list of basic items that each trail runner must adapt according to their own abilities. We highly recommend you to test it during training sessions under different conditions and to carry everything you need with you.

Activation of specific equipment depending on weather conditions The organizer publishes an equipment list consisting of a mandatory equipment list, which includes the equipment you must carry with you at all times during the race, as well as an additional equipment list that may be activated depending on the weather conditions and forecasts during the race. This additional list is an integral part of the mandatory equipment. You must be prepared to carry some or all of the additional items if they are activated. The organizer will communicate which additional items have been activated before the race start. An optional equipment check may be carried out when leaving the bib collection area to ensure that your equipment complies with the requirements of the regulations. Choose clothing that provides genuine protection in the mountains against cold, wind and snow, ensuring greater safety and better performance. All clothing must be your size and must not have been modified after leaving the factory.

MANDATORY EQUIPMENT

You must carry this equipment in a bag that must be marked when collecting your bib and cannot be exchanged during the race.

SAFETY ENVIRONMENT & WEATHER The HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc races are all races which take place in open country, in mountainous terrain, with some remote areas (roads, telecommunications…) with weather conditions which can change very fast even at the end of August (snow, hail, fog, heat (>30°) or intense cold (<-10°), violent wind). Advice along the route :

• Do not stop at high points • If you lose sight of the way-markers: turn round and go back to the previous marker

• Stay on the paths

COMPULSORY PERSONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE To ensure peace of mind at the start of your HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc race, we remind you that you must have personal accident insurance to cover any search and evacuation costs in France, Italy and Switzerland. Helicopter repatriation costs between 800 and 3,000 euros. Every year, runners get caught out because they were not sufficiently prepared. Such insurance can be taken out with the organisation of your choice. Since 2022, UTMB Group has been offering repatriation assistance insurance. For €49 a year, you can take out insurance that guarantees worldwide cover for rescue, repatriation and medical care (including helicopter rescue). Sign up here: HTTPS://UTMB.ASSURINCO.COM/

EQUIPMENT Some common sense reminders for facing difficult weather conditions: - Anticipate the cold as well as extreme heat - Don’t wait to shiver before covering yourself up - Don’t change in full wind: anticipate or wait to be sheltered - Protect yourself against the sun Walking poles: watch what you do with your poles particularly at the beginning of the race when there is a high human density. Do not wear the wrist straps on the descents: in case of a rough fall wrist-straps prevent the suitable use of the hands (injuries to shoulders, wrists, forearms or more seriously the head).

PC COURSE EMERGENCY NUMBER

+33 9 72 16 52 78 EMERGENCY 112 FRANCE, ITALY 144 SWITZERLAND

Before the start of the race, don’t forget to add these emergency numbers in you mobile phone

EATING & DRINKING Hydration and the consumption of energizing snacks must be adapted to the meteorological conditions and enriched in salt throughout the effort. Keep a good balance between slow and rapid release sugars.

FATIGUE AND VIGILANCE

SAFETY

Rest areas are available at aid stations for a few moments of sleep. It is dangerous to stop and sleep alone outdoor. Fatigue and the lack of vigilance could cause an accident. Run within your limits (above all over the first part of the race course) saving your energy for later to overcome difficult situations which may arise, such as a sudden change of weather conditions.

LIVETRAIL

Check that the emergency number you have given is the contact information of the person in your entourage who should be alerted in the event of a problem. Very important: To improve your care in the event of an incident, check that you have entered your contact number for the duration of the race in your runner’s area. You can update it up until the start of your race. It is compulsory not to leave a person in difficulty alone.

HOKA UTMB ® MONT-BLANC

The application is a reference interface for your safety, while providing you with invaluable information about the competition (real-time tracking of your race and that of your friends). In the event of an SOS, the app lets you text your GPS position directly to the organisers. This saves precious time when it comes to taking care of you. Please note, however, that it is not a substitute for a call to Race HQ. A mobile phone is compulsory with the international option activated during the race, and with a working battery. Under no circumstances should you put your phone in aeroplane mode, as we need to be able to contact you before, during and after the race. For runners who will be spending more than 15 hours on the trail, it is advised to bring an external battery.

79

RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT SIGN-POSTING In order to better understand the natural environment that you are crossing, we have created a specific sign-posting system. So, as you approach a herd/flock of animals or a naturally fragile zone, you will be informed by the sign-posts.

HERDS/FLOCKS

FENCES

On approaching these zones, pay particular attention to your behaviour so as not to frighten the animals: don’t wave your arms or poles, don’t shout and slow down.

Certain routes cross through fenced pastures, please would you close any gates behind you.

POLES

FRAGILE SECTORS

Hiking poles are forbidden in certain fragile sectors to avoid degradation of the site. These areas are marked by specific signs.

You are requested to stay on the main paths so as to protect the nature around you, avoid aggravating the erosion or disturbing the protected flora and fauna.

RESPECT OF THE PROTECTED NATURAL AREAS

RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

The HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc races cross protected natural zones and areas:

80

2 NATURE RESERVES: LES CONTAMINES-MONTJOIE AND AIGUILLES ROUGES A nature reserve is an area which constitutes a reservoir of remarkable and fragile bio-diversity. In the Haute Savoie, they are managed by the association ASTERS (the Conservatory of the Haute Savoie’s natural areas). 7 NATURA 2000 SITES Natura 2000 is a European program creating a network of land and marine sites identified for the rarity or the fragility of the wild animal or plant species, and their habitats. 1 FRANC DISTRICT In the Swiss territory the Franc districts have the aim of the protection and conservation of rare and threatened wild mammals and birds as well as the protection and conservation of their habitats.

In order to reduce the use of plastic by runners and volunteers at the HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc, and thus limit your carbon footprint and waste production, the organisers will no longer be using disposable cutlery, cups or bowls at the race bases and feed stations (including for volunteers). In 2023, there will be no plastic bottles at the refreshment points. You will still find sparkling water, Yaute cola, still water and energy products, but these will be made by individual soft drinks machines. Remember to separate your rubbish at the refreshment points. Organic waste such as leftover bars, fruit, fruit skins, leftover sausages, etc. should be disposed of in the bins provided. Try to take with you only what you will eat. Let’s avoid wasting food together.

TRAIL, HEALTH, AND PERFORMANCE Trail running is a rewarding but demanding sport that invites you to discover just how remarkable your body is. It is capable of extraordinary things, but understanding how it works is essential to getting the best out of it while protecting your health.

You’ve probably asked yourself questions like:

- CAN I TAKE PAINKILLERS DURING A TRAIL RACE? - HOW CAN I PREPARE MY FEET TO PREVENT BLISTERS? - HOW SHOULD I MANAGE MY SLEEP TO OPTIMIZE MY PERFORMANCE DURING AN ULTRA? - HOW CAN I PROTECT MYSELF FROM EXTREME HEAT? - SHOULD I ADAPT MY TRAINING ACCORDING TO MY MENSTRUAL CYCLE? - AND MANY MORE.

Since 2006, the Les Amis de l’UTMB Mont-Blanc Medical Commission has been developing evidence-based health and sports medicine advice to help you achieve your goals in the safest and best possible conditions.
