A new semester is here and that means new opportunities, new friendships, and new global experiences at UTC. Whether you’re a new Moc or returning to campus, and whether you’re from Tennessee or across the globe, we’re excited to start another great semester together.
We’re proud of what our Mocs accomplished last fall. In Fall 2025, our international students earned an average GPA of 3.72, with an incredible 44% achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA that’s Moc excellence in action! And our global footprint continues to grow, with 272 UTC students studying abroad in 26 countries, expanding what it truly means to be a Moc in a global world.
Take pride in being a Moc, support one another, and enjoy every moment of the journey. Here’s to another strong, inspiring semester at UTC. Go Mocs!
Warmly,
Dr. Takeo Suzuki
Senior International Officer & Executive Director

Madelynn Borey – faculty-led program to Paris, France
French Foreign Language and Literature Major
In summer of 2025, Madelynn spent a month in the City of Lights. Paris felt familiar to Madelynn, almost like home. While abroad, she studied French phonetics at the Cours de civilisation de française de la Sorbonne. After class, her group went to a café across the street for coffee. Some highlights of her experience was going on tours of the Musée du Louvre and Musée D'Orsay and seeing beautiful historical pieces that they had learned in class, frozen in time. She also enjoyed seeing the Eiffel Tower about 10 or more times and going to the movie theaters in the metro right from her dorm!
Shiho Takahashi – Tokyo, Japan
Exchange Student Shiho is an exchange student from Rikkyo University in Tokyo Japan. Having grown up in Tokyo, Shiho wanted to experience life in a smaller city. Along with other factors, this led her here to UTC. Although she was nervous about the unfamiliar, she has enjoyed her time at UTC. One challenging aspect of her time here has been following English conversations, especially group conversations where multiple people might talk at the same time. On the other hand, a couple of her highlights while here include her roommates, who have been helpful and have been teaching her slang, and going to UTC events where she can talk with friends.
January Highlight
International Student Orientation:
We welcomed new students from eight different countries at our Spring ’26 orientation. Students were able to meet the CGE staff and to make some new friends while mingling over some breakfast and lunch. They also received important information for them to succeed while studying at UTC and met with academic advisors. To end the day, AJ took the new students on a campus tour and their first Walmart experience.
