Founded in 1893 by the Ursuline Sisters, Ursuline Academy Wilmington is an independent Catholic, college-preparatory school that empowers students for leadership and service in our global society. Early Childhood through grade 5 is coeducational; Grades 6 through 12 are all-girls.

Accreditation: Ursuline Academy is accredited by the Middle States Association of Secondary Schools and is a member of the Ursuline Education Network (UEN). Admission to Ursuline Academy is competitive, and acceptance is based on an entrance exam taken during 8th grade. Students reside in Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey. Class Rank & GPA: Students are not ranked. The senior class Valedictorian and Salutatorian are determined at the end of the seventh semester based on the weighted cumulative grade point average. Only weighted GPAs are calculated for all students. An invitation to the National Honor Society requires a GPA of 3.75 or higher by junior year. Service: Serviam, meaning “I will serve,” is the core of Ursuline Academy’s mission and is inspired by the spirit of our foundress, St. Angela Merici. Serviam projects teach students to recognize needs and ultimately become changemakers in the world. Students learn to adapt, empathize, and serve with resilience. Service is integrated into many aspects of school life, and all students are required to complete at least 80 service hours by the end of sophomore year but typically far surpass this by graduation. Extracurricular: 13 varsity sports are offered, along with numerous student-led clubs and service organizations, as well as fine and performing arts opportunities. Ursuline’s Global Network: Through a network of 100+ Ursuline schools worldwide, students connect with sister schools through academic, travel, and athletic partnerships. Opportunities include virtual projects, hosting visiting students, and domestic or international exchanges. Students interested in global studies can also earn the Global Scholars Program distinction through related coursework, service, literacy projects, and reflections on their experiences. Schedule: A two-semester academic schedule is followed. Full-year courses are worth 1 credit; semester courses are worth ½ credit. Students average 6-7.5 credits per year.
