The skilful design of airflow can lead to enhanced exterior microclimates, to effective ventilation strategies, to reduced building air infiltration and to diminished urban wind tunneling - all of which can reduce energy consumption and/or increase thermal comfort.
This project is an exploration of natural phenomena of wind in the city and its relation to the human condition in urban scale with a focus on Antofagasta city in Chile. It aims to physically visualize and materialize the movement of air in the city to inform the design and give a complete insight into the environmental condition of the site. It materializes the wind of the specific place and enables to engage with it in the physical world.
The project allows the air movement to play a more active role as a design material. The main aim of the prototype was to visualize the airflow in the different parts of the city.
