All coach travel in Cairo is provided by Uppingham Cairo. All coach travel in France is provided by La Grand'Ferme.
LUGGAGE – WHAT TO BRING
Wherever possible, in order to make maximum use of luggage space, we ask parents to pack all belongings into SOFT BAGS, (NOT HARD SUITCASES).
The weather in the North of France can vary. In April we would expect nicer weather! However, we might also have rain, so remember this when choosing your clothes. The sun burns very easily, though you do not notice it at the time, so loose closing and tops with arms to cover the shoulders do help. Emphasis is given to a plentiful supply of sturdy, waterproof clothing. (Your child’s best clothes should stay at home together with any other valuable, nonessential items). There are no laundry facilities at the La Grand Ferme.

When leaving the school your child’s suitcase will be placed safely in the coach luggage compartment, and they will not be able to access it at all during the journey
PLEASE DO BRING BATH TOWELS AS THEY WILL NOT BE PROVIDED.
La Grand Ferme accepts no responsibility for the loss or damage to any clothes or personal equipment.
Pupils may bring airpods for use en route to/from the La Grand Ferme, but they do so at their own risk. (Once at the La Grand Ferme these expensive items MUST remain in dormitories at ALL times).
Books, word-searches, playing cards, crosswords and quizzes would also be useful timefillers while travelling.

Pupils have been assigned to travel/activity groups which are shown below. If called upon, particularly when travelling they must line up in these groups and abide by the instructions given by their Group Leaders. They must follow instructions first time.

Dormitory Accommodation
Staff will have bedrooms immediately adjacent to pupils bedrooms. All accommodation blocks are self-contained, only Uppingham Cairo staff and our colleagues at the Grand’ Ferme have access to the accommodation. Dormitories have been named after French locations in keeping with the Grand’Ferme’s authentic setting.
Miss Simon and Miss Wilson will have bedrooms immediately adjacent to the girls’ dormitories. Mr. Lavoipierre and Mr Cook will have a bedroom immediately adjacent to the boys’ dormitories.
Bedrooms have 4 to 5 beds all en suite. It is the children’s responsibility as a group to keep their room tidy at all times and to make their beds in the morning before excursions. An inspection will be made daily and there will be a reward for the best kept bedroom at the end of the week.
Pocket Money
Each student can bring up to 100€ pocket money. This is to cover breakfast or snacks enroute to the Grand’Ferme and money to buy a small souvenir in the market and at the Mont Saint Michel. We will request this amount in euros to be given to the group leader for safekeeping for the duration of the trip. Each staff member will be responsible for safeguarding the money for the students in their group. Children may request their money from the designated teacher as needed. Credit cards are not allowed and will be confiscated.
Medical Conditions & Dietary Requirements
The medical centre has provided us with the relevant medical information for each child attending. However, if there is any important medical information that has not already been shared with the school, please ensure you inform us as soon as possible. Any required medication must be clearly labelled and handed to the Medical Centre. In addition, school first aid kits will be available and carried with us throughout the trip to ensure we are prepared to manage minor injuries or medical needs.

SECURITY
Do not take more jewellery than you need: there is no point. MOBILE PHONE and other electronic device: you may bring your phone but it is at your own risk. The school is not liable for any loss or damage.
EATING OUT
Breakfast, lunch and evening meals are provided from the canteen of the centre so are packed lunches The chefs will be preparing the food on-site.
CUSTOMS AND EXISE
NO ONE UNDER 17 YEARS IS ALLOWED TOBACCO, VAPES, ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES OR ALCOHOLIC DRINKS ALLOWANCES.
FIREWORKS, BEEBEE GUNS, LIGHTERS AND KNIVES MAY NOT BE IMPORTED INTO FRANCE. ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES ARE STRICTLY FORBIDDEN BY LAW.
ITINERARY
We will create a WhatsApp group to keep you informed about our trip. This group will be used for updates only, so parents will not be able to send messages in the chat. We will do our best to provide daily updates to keep you informed throughout the trip. We will message on the group upon our safe arrival at the la Grand Ferme and we will relay any significant change (more than 2 hours) to our scheduled return time.
In case of Emergency
In the unlikely event of an emergency involving the whole group, a small group or an individual student, parents will be informed by telephone. Please ensure your contact numbers held by the school are contactable at all times. Miss Simon will check her school e-mail address (msimon@uppinghamcairo.com) regularly. For any urgent matters, please contact the school office and they will contact the group by phone.
Contacting your child during the trip
It is our experience that children suffer far more from 'homesickness' when they are in contact with their parents whilst away. For this reason, and to allow the children to develop independence we ask that you do not phone / facetime your child during the activities in the daytime. Rest assured we will let you know in the unlikely event that your child is distressed. We will provide you with a telephone number shortly before the trip to allow you to contact a member of staff on the trip if you would like to be reassured that all is well. However, we ask that you understand that we will be very busy looking after your children, and that we will only be able to speak with parents briefly on the telephone. As mentioned above we will keep you up to date with our Trip via the WhatsApp group which will reassure you that your child is having a wonderful time!
Mobile phone use
As previously outlined in the parent presentation, mobile phones will be secured in Yondr pouches during daytime activities to ensure that children are fully engaged and able to enjoy the experience without distractions. In our experience, trips have been far more enjoyable and socially enriching when phones are not in use throughout the day. Phones will be returned to students during designated downtime after dinner, allowing them the opportunity to contact parents. In addition, a camera will be provided for each group so that children can still capture and share special memories from the trip.
