ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY 1. Introduction 1.1 Uppingham Cairo is committed to the highest standards of academic integrity across all phases of the School, from Junior School through to GCSE, A Level and International Baccalaureate programmes. 1.2 Academic integrity underpins all teaching, learning and assessment and reflects the School’s values of honesty, responsibility and intellectual confidence. 1.3 This policy ensures compliance with the requirements of the International Baccalaureate Organisation and UK examination boards, including JCQ regulations for GCSE, IGCSE and A Level qualifications. 1.4 The policy sets out expectations, definitions of academic misconduct, and procedures to be followed in all cases. 2. Principles 2.1 All pupils are expected to: • • • •

produce work that is their own acknowledge the ideas and work of others appropriately act honestly in all assessments take responsibility for their learning

2.2 Expectations are age-appropriate and develop as pupils progress through the School. 2.3 Older pupils, particularly those in examination years, are expected to demonstrate full academic independence and adherence to formal assessment regulations. 3. Academic Misconduct 3.1 Academic misconduct is any behaviour that results in, or may result in, a pupil gaining an unfair advantage. 3.2 This includes: • • • • • • • •

plagiarism, including use of AI-generated content presented as original work collusion, where work is presented as independent but completed jointly copying or allowing work to be copied fabrication or falsification of data contract cheating or use of third parties bringing unauthorised materials into an examination communicating with others during an examination misuse of technology during assessments

3.3 Misconduct applies to all forms of assessed work, including classwork, homework, coursework, internal assessments and examinations. 4. Use of Artificial Intelligence 4.1 The use of AI must support learning and must comply with School expectations and awarding body guidance. 4.2 Pupils must not: • • •

submit AI-generated work as their own use AI to complete assessed work dishonestly use AI to generate inappropriate or misleading content

4.3 Where AI is used appropriately, it must be acknowledged in line with teacher guidance. 5. Expectations by SCHOOL 5.1 Junior School Pupils are taught the foundations of academic integrity, including: • • •

working independently giving credit for ideas developing honesty in learning

5.2 Lower Senior School Pupils are expected to: • • •

use sources appropriately avoid copying develop independent written work

5.3 GCSE and A Level Pupils must: • • • •

comply fully with JCQ regulations produce independent coursework follow all examination rules understand the consequences of malpractice

5.4 International Baccalaureate Pupils must: • • •

comply fully with IB Academic Integrity requirements produce authentic work for all internal and external assessments follow all IB examination regulations

6. Conduct of Internal Examinations

6.1 Internal examinations will be conducted in line with JCQ and IB standards where appropriate. 6.2 Invigilation Invigilators must: • • • •

supervise candidates at all times not engage in other activities ensure pupils are not left unattended keep a written record of any incidents

Pupils must: • • • •

follow all instructions bring only authorised materials not communicate with others remain under supervision at all times

7. Conduct of Public Examinations 7.1 All public examinations will be conducted in accordance with the regulations of the relevant awarding body, including JCQ and the IB. 7.2 Examination security All materials must be: • • •

stored securely accessed only by authorised staff handled in accordance with regulations

7.3 Invigilation Invigilators must: • • •

follow all awarding body instructions maintain appropriate supervision record incidents accurately

7.4 Seating and identification Candidates must be: • • •

identified prior to the examination seated according to an approved seating plan appropriately spaced

7.5 Access arrangements

Approved access arrangements must be implemented in full. 7.6 Scripts Scripts must be: • • •

collected immediately secured dispatched in accordance with regulations

8. Maladministration 8.1 Maladministration is any action by staff that compromises the integrity of assessment. 8.2 This includes: • • •

providing excessive assistance failing to follow procedures breaching examination security

8.3 Any suspected maladministration must be reported immediately and may be referred to the relevant awarding body. 9. Procedures for Suspected Misconduct 9.1 Where misconduct is suspected: • • •

the pupil will be informed evidence will be reviewed the Director of Studies will be consulted

9.2 Where misconduct is admitted: • •

a proportionate response will be applied resubmission may be permitted where allowed

9.3 Where misconduct is disputed: • • •

the matter will be escalated parents may be informed a formal decision will be made

9.4 Outcomes may include: • • • • •

resubmission where permitted internal sanctions reporting to awarding body disqualification suspension in serious cases

10. Reporting to Awarding Bodies

10.1 All cases of suspected malpractice in external assessments must be reported in accordance with IB and JCQ requirements. 10.2 The School will comply fully with all investigation processes. 10.3 Decisions of awarding bodies are final. 11. Education and Prevention 11.1 The School promotes academic integrity through: • • •

teaching research and referencing skills use of plagiarism detection tools clear guidance across all subjects

11.2 Pupils are supported in developing independent academic practice at every stage. 12. Monitoring and Review 12.1 The School monitors patterns of academic misconduct. 12.2 This policy is reviewed annually to ensure compliance with IB and JCQ updates. 13. Related Policies • • • •
