A Museum with an Extraordinary Story
From 1941 to 1945, more than 2,200 British, Canadian, and American cadets trained in the skies over Terrell as part of one of the most remarkable international partnerships of World War II.
The story began when Terrell’s citizens came together to raise $35,000 in just two days to purchase the land for what would become the first and largest British Flying Training School in the United States. Their generosity helped launch a program that strengthened the Allied war effort and created lifelong bonds between Texas and Great Britain.
Training was not without sacrifice. Twenty cadets lost their lives in training accidents and illness. Their service and sacrifice remain an important part of Terrell’s history and are honored at the museum today.
Each year, thousands of visitors from across Texas, the United States, and around the world travel to Terrell to experience this unique story firsthand. Admission is always free, and the museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
