Welcome to UoC
Welcome to Chester A warm welcome to the University of Chester. I’m so pleased you’re joining us. Starting university is an exciting milestone, whether you’re joining us straight from school, returning to education, or coming from further afield. One of the things we are most proud of at Chester is our strong sense of community and belonging. University is about more than your course, it’s about the people you meet, the experiences you have, and the connections you build. We want you to feel that this is a place where you are supported, valued, and able to be yourself. Your student experience matters to us, and we are committed to helping you make the most of your time here. From your first day through to graduation, there are a wide range of opportunities to get involved, develop your skills, and create lasting memories. Whether through your studies, sports, societies, volunteering, or building new friendships.

We also recognise that starting something new can feel overwhelming at times. Please remember that you are not alone, support is always available, and our teams are here to help you navigate any challenges and ensure you can succeed and thrive. I encourage you to make the most of every opportunity, stay open to new experiences, and take the time to build your own sense of belonging.

Your Students’ Union A message from your Students’ Union President Hello, and welcome to Chester. I’m Will, your Students’ Union President. Starting university is one of the biggest adventures. It’s a chance to discover new passions, challenge yourself, build lifelong friendships and create memories that will stay with you long after graduation. It can feel exciting, overwhelming, uncertain and inspiring all at once, and that’s completely normal.
Join a society, try something new, make connections, ask questions and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Some of the most rewarding moments often come from opportunities you never expected.
I felt so nervous coming but that is normal, and so many of you probably feel the same. When I arrived at Chester, I brought hopes, questions, and a lot of curiosity about what university life would hold. What I found was so much more than a place to study. I found a community that welcomed me, opportunities that helped me grow and experiences that shaped the person I am today.
Your Students’ Union is here to help you make the most of your university experience.
The University of Chester gave me the confidence to try new things, the support to overcome challenges and the chance to discover strengths I didn’t know I had. Now, I have the privilege of representing and supporting thousands of students, each bringing their own unique story, perspective and ambition to our university community. As you begin your time here, remember that there is no single way to experience Chester. Whether you’re eager to get involved in everything from day one, or you prefer to take things at your own pace, your journey is yours to shape.
16
Most importantly, know that you belong here.
We’re here to represent your voice, support your wellbeing, celebrate your successes and stand alongside you through the challenges too. Whether you have ideas to share, concerns to raise, or simply want to get involved, my door is always open. This is your community. This is your university. This is your time. Welcome to Chester. We can’t wait to see the impact you’ll make. See you around campus,
Will Gaines
