It’s what makes our city unique, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Living Costs

Studying at university is an investment in your future, and we want to make it as accessible to as many people as possible. That’s why students at the University of Chester are provided with any financial guidance they may need.

Depending on your accommodation, spending habits, lifestyle, and other factors, living costs can vary. However, compared to other locations in the UK, Chester is a very affordable city.

The UK Visas and Immigration guidelines on the cost of studying in the UK (for one academic year) require applicants to meet the financial requirement of having enough money to support themselves, currently £10,539 for any University outside London. If you decide to study at the University of Chester, you will need to show that you have sufficient funds to cover the tuition fees for your first academic year. You will also need the maintenance costs of £10,539 required for your student visa application.

Guidance on prices can be found on various online sources. For example, prices of food can be checked on My Supermarket Compare, costs of private accommodation rentals can be found on national property pages such as Zoopla or Rightmove, and prices of cinema tickets can be found on relevant websites such as Vue.

Once you have been in the UK for a while, you will know where to find good deals and discounted prices on a whole range of products and services. Student discounts can also be obtained in many shops and restaurants, and students can also get reduced bus & rail travel tickets.

Payment Plans

1. Full Fee Payment

Students have the option to pay their fees in full before the start date of their course. This ensures there are no complications upon their enrolment, and that their only financial consideration for the academic year is living costs.

2. Two Instalments

Option 2 allows students to make a deposit payment to confirm their place (the required amount will be confirmed on the offer letter) and make an additional payment before the start date of their course. The remaining balance will be due within three months of the course start date.

3. Partial Deposit Payment

Option 3 enables students to pay a smaller initial deposit amount (the required amount will be confirmed on the offer letter), allowing them to secure their place and start the CAS process. The

remainder of the deposit amount will be due before the deposit deadline, and the student will be issued their CAS. An additional payment will be required before the start of the course, and the remaining balance will be due within three months of the course start date.

We encourage all students to make the deposit payment (see offer letter for details) at the earliest opportunity to avoid delays in CAS processing.

After the required deposit amount has been met, an additional enrolment payment will be due before the course start date, and the remaining balance will be due within three months of the course start date.

Fixed Fees

The undergraduate tuition fees are fixed at the entry amount for the duration of your course.

International Alumni Scholarship

University of Chester graduates are eligible for an Alumni Scholarship, enabling them to study a Full-Time Master’s programme for just £10,250. The student must meet the University’s postgraduate entry requirements and be applying for an eligible programme. Terms and conditions apply.
