Welcome Hello – and a very warm welcome to Artsfest 2018. The University of Wolverhampton is proud to stage this celebration of the creative and cultural life of our region, and the huge impact that the arts make in our everyday lives. If you’re passionate about music, dance, drama, film, theatre, art or comedy, there’s something for you, and for everyone during Artsfest – including lots of free and family-friendly events. In the fourth year of Artsfest we’ve joined with cultural venues throughout Wolverhampton and Walsall. As well as celebrating the achievements of the Faculty of Arts’ students, we’ve invited an eclectic range of new artists from across the region and further afield, allowing them a chance to use Artsfest as a platform to enhance their careers.

As a Faculty, we are proud to bring the very best in arts and entertainment that this region has to offer through Artsfest every year. I look forward to seeing you during Artsfest 2018!

Mark, Shift, Loop Thursday 7 to Friday 8 June Visit: wlv.ac.uk/artsfest for details TILSTONE STUDIO, ARENA THEATRE, WULFRUNA STREET Live in front of an audience, dancers perform a choreographed dance while an artist interprets the dance through drawing: responding to, and capturing, the movement and emotion. These animated drawings are projected on stage; on walls, in frames, and on the dancers’ bodies. The dancers create and mark a new dance based on their response to the artist’s creations, who in turn will re-animate and re-mark the new choreography

which will be projected for the dancers to respond to, thus creating a further new piece of dance, a shift. This process is repeated, looping seamlessly, for as long as the dancers and artist can sustain their work! Mark, Shift, Loop is a collaborative venture between choreographer Karen Wood, artist Alys ScottHawkins and scenographer Paul Brownbill, and is presented as a work in progress. States of Change Friday 8 to Thursday 21 June EAGLE WORKS, ALEXANDRA STREET

States of Change explores the idea of erosion in social or material decline, and its productive potential. The everyday processes by which surfaces are worn down, thinned or marked by contact with weather, citizens, or other agents, and detritus deposited elsewhere, puts a particular focus on materiality. Material in its different conditions and formations has here a particular unstable character, defined as ongoing process, shifting, disappearing and distancing. The process of erosion and its continuous fluid character will be further explored in ways in which material contests assumptions of agency, control, and visibility. This underlines the nature of artistic practice of being in and between processes of testing and reflection, shaping states of change, environments and materials. Arts, Design and Crafts

Lost and Found Friday 8 to Thursday 21 June, 9.00am-5.00pm, weekdays ROOM 312, GEORGE WALLIS BUILDING, MOLINEUX STREET Lost and Found is an exhibition of work by Visual Communication students responding to reflections on what it is to lose something for it later to be found. The experience of losing something can be annoying and inconvenient, with one source revealing the average person misplaces up to 3,000 items during their lifetime. Exhibits are informed by the everyday disruption of searches for lost and found objects, and the rediscovery of the mislaid and overlooked. Arts, Design and Crafts
