UVM’s Class of 2029 marks another record high in academic achievement. 19% of the class hails from Vermont (with over half the state’s valedictorians enrolling and students from all 14 counties). More than 50% of the new class comes from outside New England, with 47 states and 40 countries represented.
Application Updates for 2025-2026
UVM continues to offer several early application options: Early Decision I (deadline November 1), Early Action (deadline November 1), and Early Decision II (deadline January 15). The Regular Decision deadline is January 15. Our test optional policy continues for students applying Fall 2026 and beyond and new this year, students who choose to submit test scores can opt to self-report them on their application. Students applying for need-based financial aid only need to submit the FAFSA.

This winter the University of Vermont was recognized among the top tier of universities categorized by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education as R1 – a recognition of an extremely robust research enterprise, and a designation earned by less than 3% of U.S. higher education institutions.

STEM Scholars: Leading Change Program A cohort-based learning community for future leaders in STEM committed to inclusive excellence. Scholars participate in research, intergroup dialogue, self-advocacy, and leadership activities while earning their degree. The program begins with a six-week summer bridge experience including coursework, lab research, and technical skill-building. Vermont Pitch Challenge An international competition for high school entrepreneurs to pitch innovative business ideas that make a positive impact. Participants receive expert guidance on writing business plans and creating compelling pitches, competing for cash prizes and a full UVM scholarship. Liberal Arts Scholars Program An invitation-based program for first-year students in the College of Arts and Sciences. Students join one of six themed cohorts—Arts, Earth & Environment, Humanities, Life Science, Social Science, or World Language—each with 25 students or fewer. Undergraduate Business Co-op Program UVM recently received a $15 million gift from the Grossman Family Foundation to establish a new Undergraduate Business Co-op Program. New Center for Health and Wellbeing
Plans are underway for a new $16 million building that will unite medical services, mental health counseling, and physical therapy under one roof for students. The new building will more than double the current space on campus and will be situated in a more central location, within walking distance for most students living on

Through holistic review, we select students who will contribute to the academic and cultural strength of our community. The rigor of an applicant’s academic program, class standing, grades, and trends in performance are considered. Essays, recommendations, and other evidence of life experience also assist our evaluation. Admission decisions are made without regard to family financial circumstances.
