You’ll also see the impact of our continued investment into our campus including our £65 million Science and Engineering building, Energy House 2 - a world leading research facility, and our new Health Clinic which is also under construction at our Frederick Road campus.

WHAT’S ON

Find out more about life at the University of Salford and get the low-down on clearing and what happens next now you have a place with us.

Let us walk you through the costs associated with going to univerity, the loans available and the application process for Student Finance England. The team will also be on hand to answer any questions or concerns around applying late or changing your course or university.

Hear from the team about what to expect over the next few weeks, from securing your place, getting your finance, accommodation and anything else ready, to the start of teaching in September.

Join us on a guided tour of the campus led by our Student Ambassadors. Tours are available of all three campuses - Peel Park, Frederick Road and MediaCity. Please allow for up to 1 hour for a campus tour.

Drop-in and take a tour of our on campus accommodation, Peel Park Quarter.

You can make your own way over to John Lester and Eddie Colman Courts throughout the day, it’s just short a walk from our Peel Park campus or you can drive there. Alternatively, we’ll be providing a free accommodation shuttle bus at 11.30am.

DESCRIPTION

Drop-in and chat with some of our academic staff about studying here. Please note there will be representatives from each subject area but may not include a tutor from every course.

The Disability and Inclusion team are here to help students with disabilities, mental health needs, medical conditions, and any learning support or other conditions you may have. The team will be on hand to answer your questions about the support available here at Salford and how to manage the transition of your support needs to higher education.

Pop in and find out more about our ‘library in the park’ and the library support services available to you as a student. Through the library, we offer short courses to help improve the quality of your academic work - ask about Learning English for Academic Purposes.

For courses within Health Professions, students will be required to complete a DBS and occupational health check as part of their registration process as a student. They will also need to be fitted for a uniform. The onboarding team will be on hand to answer any questions you might have about this process.

PEEL PARK CAMPUS

Peel Park campus, offers you the best of both worlds: state-of-the art learning facilities within minutes of a world-class city, set against beautiful green spaces to relax and socialise in. We’ve built our campus with everyone who uses it in mind – our students, staff, businesses and local residents and created a space where everyone feels welcome. Our friendly security team is consistently recognised and accredited for their efforts in keeping everyone safe on campus.

SILKS LAW CLINIC

Our in-house law clinic, SILKS, offer free legal advice to members of the public. Working under the supervision of professional lawyers, our law students develop their legal knowledge and clientfacing skills through the clinic.

BODMER LABORATORY

Our Bodmer lab is packed with cuttingedge technical equipment to help you make new discoveries of your own; with AV and HDTV systems that connect you to your lecturers, wherever you are in the lab.

NEW ADELPHI THEATRE

The theatre is equipped with the latest lighting, PA equipment and high-powered projection, seating for up to 350 people, and can be adapted to different configurations.

FREDERICK ROAD CAMPUS

HUMAN PERFORMANCE LAB

The Human Performance Lab is a teaching and research facility used by students on our sport and exercise courses, as well as physiotherapy, podiatry and prosthetics and orthotics.

MEDIACITY CAMPUS

Come and visit our campus at MediaCity, the home of TV, digital and creative businesses in the north - including the BBC and ITV. It’s a lively, professional environment, with a wide range of restaurants, bars, shops and leisure facilities.

MediaCity houses the journalism centre, which includes a TV studio, newsroom, radio studio and editing gallery. There’s also the digital performance lab - an experimental performance and lecture space, perfect for showcasing computer gaming, animation and dance, equipped with one of the largest HD screens in Europe.

There is a regular bus service that runs between our Peel Park and Frederick Road

Frederick Road campus, just ten minutes’ walk from Peel Park, is home to our nursing, midwifery, psychology, sports and health sciences courses. Here you’ll find state of-the-art facilities to equip you with the skills and knowledge you’ll need for a successful and fulfilling career.

SIMULATION SUITE

When you train to become a nurse, midwife or allied health professional here at Salford, you’ll face real-life scenarios in the safe and supportive environment of our Simulation Suite. Set up just like a hospital ward, the suite is equipped with human patient simulators, including two adults, a newborn baby, a child and a birthing mum.

JOURNALISM CENTRE

Based at MediaCity, this centre includes a TV studio, newsroom, radio studio and editing gallery. Here, our journalism students produce digital content across multiple channels, developing and honing their reporting and content production skills.

STUDENT ACCOMMODATION

Living in university accommodation is a great way to really immerse yourself in student life whilst giving you the peace of mind of having everything you need within easy reach.

In partnership with Campus Living Villages (CLV), we offer accommodation exclusively for University of Salford students at Peel Park Quarter.

PEEL PARK QUARTER is our thriving student village at the heart of our Peel Park campus. It offers a safe, supportive and social environment where you can make new friends, join in with weekly events and become part of our vibrant student community.

You’ll be a stone’s throw from learning spaces, the library, Students’ Union and campus shop. All rooms come with an ensuite, desk, chair and small double bed with under bed storage. Prices start at £169.50 per week for a 42 week contract.

OTHER ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS

John Lester and Eddie Colman Courts are perfect if you’re studying a nursing or health related course, as they’re located next to our Frederick Road campus. It’s also just a short walk from Peel Park, and a short free bus ride to MediaCity. All rooms come with a bed (single or double, depending on the room), wardrobe, desk, chair and storage heater, with a shared bathroom and good size kitchen. John Lester and Eddie Colman Courts is also managed by Campus Living Villages and prices here start at £137.50 per week.

We also have several other student halls within 15 minutes of one of our campuses. Our nearby student halls cater to a variety of needs, including modern en-suite rooms, budget friendly shared bathroom flats, and self-contained studios.

Peel Park Quarter and John Lester and Eddie Colman Courts contain specially adapted rooms for those who have additional needs as well as the option of a carer room (for physically non-independent students) in our Peel Park Quarter accommodation.

COMMUTING IN

For those of you planning to commute from home, we have a commuter hub on each campus site. Salford is easily accessible no matter how you’re travelling. We are located 2km from Manchester City Centre and we’re on many major bus routes, with services running every few minutes. Salford Crescent train station is situated between our Peel Park and Frederick Road campuses, and we have car parking facilities too (charges apply).

Our students can use a free bus service that connects our campuses. MediaCity is also well connected to Greater Manchester’s tram network. For more information visit salford.ac.uk/travel

A TALE OF TWO CITIES

From music, culture and art to sport, shopping and food, you’ll never run out of things to do outside of the classroom. Lucky for you, we have two cities just waiting to be discovered and explored. Here’s a quick overview of why we love Salford and Manchester...

MUSIC

The Manchester music scene is more than Morrissey and Madchester (although Bez does still make an appearance now and again). Whatever your music taste, you’ll never be stuck for gigs in the city.

Catch the biggest national and international acts at Manchester Arena, Co-op Live, the Apollo and Manchester Academy, and see your favourite indie and underground artists at Northern Quarter venues Night and Day and Soup Kitchen. Manchester’s alternative music scene still roars, with gigs at Rebellion, the Star and Garter and DIY venue Partisan.

The University itself has been host to a range of great artists over the years as well, from The Who in 1968 and Status Quo in 1972, to The Smiths in 1986 and Pulp in 1992.

FOOD AND DRINK

We admit it, we’re a bunch of foodies here – and you can experience all types of cuisine at Salford and Manchester’s many food and drink establishments. On campus, we have our very own bakery and brewery - The Old Fire Station Café. Serving fresh pastries, barista served coffees and great beer; there’s something for everyone! Salford’s Chapel Street, just a few minutes’ walk from main campus, is home to a growing number of independent outlets including authentic Italian pizza at Vero Moderno, freshly made tapas at Porta and beautiful cakes and artwork at Kith and Kin.

Over at Salford Quays, Central Bay is the main waterfront foodie destination with 20 different independent kitchens, microbrewery, live music and more.

In Manchester’s Northern Quarter it’s all about quirky diners, canteens and cafes, whilst the city’s Chinatown is the second biggest in the UK, with a host of Chinese, Korean and Japanese restaurants, as well as a number of speciality supermarkets.

CULTURE AND ART

At Salford Quays you will find The Lowry, named after the Salford artist LS Lowry, with permanent displays of his work as well as a temporary exhibition programme and theatre hosting a dynamic range of plays, immersive experiences, comedy shows, dance performances and family activities. The Quays and MediaCity also have a lively programme of events - from the LightWaves festival in December through to We Invented the Weekend in the summer.

Islington Mill, just a ten minute walk from Peel Park campus, is home to radical, subversive music and visual arts, with an eclectic mix of events and exhibitions to inspire and surprise you.

HOME, located in central Manchester is more than a cinema: it’s Manchester’s centre for international contemporary art,

theatre and film, complete with a bar and restaurant. We’re proud to be founding partners of HOME, which opens up opportunities for students such as gaining direct industry involvement in the curriculum on relevant courses.

Want to enjoy your culture even closer to home? Our campus is home to New Adelphi Theatre, a 350-seat theatre which hosts a range of events, from side-splitting comedy to ground breaking dance projects and big band entertainment, involving both our own students and external companies.

Salford Museum and Art Gallery and the Working Class Movement Library feature both historic collections and a vibrant programme of contemporary exhibitions and events for all ages. Festivals feature also on our Peel Park campus - with the annual Sounds From The Other City musical festival every year and Pink Picnic in June.

We’re home to two of the biggest teams in football, Manchester United and Manchester City (the Students’ Union offers discounted tickets to some matches!) as well as Lancashire County Cricket Club at Emirates Old Trafford. Sportcity at the Etihad Campus houses the National Cycling Centre and Velodrome, the National Squash Centre and regional Tennis Centre.

If you like your sports a little less theatre of dreams and a little more grassroots, Manchester and Salford are also home to a community of active and enthusiastic non-league football teams, as well as rugby, hockey and roller derby teams. You can even try your hand at outdoor swimming at Salford Quays, next to our MediaCity campus.

On campus itself we have the Sports Centre, where facilities include a 25 metre swimming pool with spa and sauna, a fitness studio with strength and conditioning rooms, and multi-use sports hall for badminton, basketball, netball and five-a-side-football. Keep your eyes peeled for our brand new padel courts coming soon! You can also take part in local organised runs, such as parkrun at Peel Park.

SHOPPING

Ever wonder where Mancunians get their unique street style? The Northern Quarter is home to the best independent, vintage and boutique shops, as well as Afflecks Palace, with four floors of alternative fashion. You can find all your high street favourites in Manchester Arndale centre, and designer labels in the city centre. The Trafford Centre is also just a short bus or tram ride away.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

STEP 1 /

Visiting universities is the best way to get a feel for each university and will help you decide which course it is that you want to study - so congratulations, you’ve ticked step 1 off the list already. Ask as many questions as you can think of today - don’t be shy, we’re here to help!

STEP 2 /

As you have received your verbal offer, you need to log in to your UCAS Hub and attach yourself to Salford. If you are a direct applicant, you will receive a link from us via email so you can complete your details on our application portal.

STEP 3 /

You may need to upload copies of your certificates onto the application portal or check that they are available on UCAS.

STEP 4 /

Apply for your student loan as soon as you can. Visit the Student Loans Company for details at www.slc.co.uk.

If you’ve already applied but listed a different institution on your application, just log into the portal and change it to Salford.

STEP 5 /

Once you’ve received an offer you should start to think about accommodation. We hope you’ve had a chance to view our accommodation sites during the Visit Day today. See page 14 in the guide for more information on accommodation options.
