for students, it aims to increase accessibility to healthcare for the wider Salford community. MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR OPEN DAY

Our Student Ambassadors have been in the position you're in right now and here's their most recommended things to do when attending an Open Day: 01 Find out more about your course of interest by attending a course session. This is a great opportunity to chat to our tutors and current students and check out the course facilities. All course sessions run at least twice, so you've got the opportunity to explore more than one subject if you're still a little undecided. 02 Drop in for a tour of our on site accommodation at Peel Park Quarter. Chat to the team about the different rooms and facilities available and speak to current students about their experience.

03 Book on to a campus tour - this is the best way to get a feel for the whole University. It's also led by Student Ambassadors so it's the perfect time to ask questions and find out what life as a student here is really like. 04 Check out the Sports Centre and chat to Team Salford. There's loads of perks available through being a student, including free sports massages and personal fitness programmes. 05 Chat to the Students' Union to find out more about what you can get involved with outside of your studies - there's something for everyone!

OUR

CAMPUS

Our Open Days take place across our three campuses and the location of your subject presentation will depend on the course you are interested in. You can find out where each course is based on pages 8-29. The campuses are just a short distance away from each other and we have lots of helpful student ambassadors dotted around each campus ready to point you in the right direction. Our staff will be at the check-in points on each campus until the end of the event so there is always a friendly face to speak to.

PEEL PARK CAMPUS On Peel Park campus, our Maxwell Building is where you will find the likes of our business and accounting courses. The SEE Building specialises in computing and engineering courses and New Adelphi houses our art, design, music and creative courses.

FREDERICK ROAD CAMPUS All our health and social care courses are taught on our Frederick Road campus. It hosts a range of different facilities including simulation suites for our nursing and midwifery courses, a radiography centre, human performance laboratory and working clinics for podiatry, prosthetics and orthotics and sport and rehabilitation.

MEDIACITY As the home of TV, digital and creative busineses in the north, including the BBC and ITV, our MediaCity campus is home to our film, media, gaming and journalism.

CAR PARKING If you’re travelling by car to our Open Day and your course of interest is based at our Peel Park campus you can find car parking at Irwell Place car park (M5 4WT) or Lowry and Delaney car parks (M5 4NJ). If your course of interest is based at our Frederick Road campus, you can park at our Frederick Road multi-storey car park (M6 6PU). We'll have free parking at the car parks referenced above on the day of the event. If your course is based at MediaCity, we recommend parking at one of our Peel Park car parks and getting the free shuttle bus over to MediaCity.

SHUTTLE BUS You'll find the bus stop between New Adelphi and Salford Crescent train station on our Peel Park campus. If you’re heading to MediaCity today, the first shuttle bus will leave Peel Park campus at 9.15am and the final bus back from MediaCity will be at 4.15pm. Buses run every 15 minutes. If you're interested in viewing the John Lester and Eddie Colman accommodation site, the first bus will leave New Adelphi at 10am and they'll run every 20 minutes after that. In order to see accommodation we would recommend getting the bus no later than 3pm from Peel Park.

GETTING HELP DURING THE OPEN DAY

FIRE ALARM

All of our check-in desks are staffed by members of the Recruitment Team who can help you with questions about the day, about how to find your way around campus or provide any other assistance if you need it.

In the event of a fire alarm during the Open Day, please exit the building as quickly and safely as possible. Our staff and students will help you find your way to the nearest fire assembly point.

STUDENT AMBASSADORS You’ll spot our friendly Student Ambassadors and Marshals around campus all day – they’re wearing red and are here to help you out. They’re all current students and are happy to answer any questions about studying at Salford, as well as questions about the Open Day.

ILLNESS OR INJURY If you feel ill or need first aid assistance during the day, please speak to a member of staff at any check-in point who will be able to arrange assistance for you.

SUPPORTING YOUR VISIT

ACCESSING ADDITIONAL FACILITIES To view the facilities in each of our buildings, you can use our interactive google map. This includes accessible toilets, gender-neutral toilets, babychange facilities, water refill stations and cash machines. Click on each building’s icon to see its facilities.

QUIET ROOMS We know an Open Day can be busy with lots of new people and things to do and can sometimes be overwhelming. COURSE PRESENTATIONS We have listed our subject areas alphabetically so you can find the courses of interest to you. As well as giving you an overview of the course and its content, subject presentations will give you the chance to chat directly with our academic staff, ask any questions you might have and where appropriate, have a tour of facilities available at Salford. All of our courses are offering at least two subject talks to allow you to attend an additional session if you want to explore more than one course. Drop-in and take a tour of our on campus accommodation, Peel Park Quarter. You'll have the chance to view our en-suite rooms and shared living and kitchen space, check out the communal areas and chat to Campus Living Village staff. Please note at the Open Day you will only be able to view our bronze standard rooms.

We'll have a hop-on hop-off accommodation bus running to the John Lester and Eddie Colman accommodation sites. Join us on a guided tour of the campus led by our Student Ambassadors. You should allow approximately 30-45 minutes to complete the tour.

Campus tours

At Peel Park and Frederick Road, tours run every 30 minutes. At MediaCity tours run on the hour. All tours are subject to availability and are busiest around lunch time. Head to the campus tour desk to book your place!

Library tour

Pop in during the day for a tour and find out more about our ‘library in the park’. Tours last approximately 15 minutes. Through the library, we offer short courses to help improve the quality of your academic work - ask about Learning English for Academic Purposes.

Maker Space tours

The Maker Space is a digital fabrication hub open to all students to develop design and making skills. We provide skills, knowledge and full access to our industry standard equipment including 3D printing, laser cutting and CNC machining to solve design and manufacturing challenges.

OTHER ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS John Lester and Eddie Colman Courts are perfect if you’re studying a nursing or health related course, as they’re located next to our Frederick Road campus. It’s also just a short walk from Peel Park, and a short free bus ride to MediaCity. All rooms come with a bed (single or double, depending on the room), wardrobe, desk, chair and storage heater, with a shared bathroom and a good-sized kitchen.

Peel Park Quarter and John Lester and Eddie Colman Courts contain specially adapted rooms for those who have additional needs as well as the option of a carer room (for physically nonindependent students) in our Peel Park Quarter accommodation. John Lester and Eddie Colman Courts is also managed by Campus Living Villages. Rooms here are around a ten minute walk from our Frederick Road campus. Prices for John Lester and Eddie Colman currently start at £135* per week.

We are just over a mile away from Manchester city centre; that’s just a 20-minute walk or five-minute journey if you hop on one of the many buses which run every few minutes. Salford Crescent train station is situated between our Peel Park and Frederick Road campuses, easily connecting you to Manchester city centre and beyond. If you're travelling to our MediaCity campus, you can show your student ID card on the number 50 bus to ride for free* from our Peel Park or Frederick Road campuses. Alternatively, if you’re commuting in by tram, there’s a Metrolink stop right outside our MediaCity campus. If you’re coming in by bike or car, we have over 400 spaces for bicycles and over 1,000 car parking spaces across our campuses. Annual and monthly parking permits are available to buy, or you can simply pay as you go. *Monday-Friday, 05.00-22.30.

From music, culture and art to sport, shopping and food, you’ll never run out of things to do outside of the classroom. Lucky for you, we have two cities just waiting to be discovered and explored. Here’s a quick overview of why we love Salford and Manchester…

CULTURE AND ART At Salford Quays you will find The Lowry, named after the Salford artist LS Lowry, with permanent displays of his work as well as a temporary exhibition programme and a theatre hosting a dynamic range of plays, immersive experiences, comedy shows, dance performances and family activities. The Quays and Media City also have a lively programme of events – from the LightWaves festival in December through to We Invented the Weekend in the summer. Islington Mill, just a ten minute walk from Peel Park campus, is home to radical, subversive music and visual arts, with an eclectic mix of events and exhibitions to inspire and surprise you. HOME, located in central Manchester is more than a cinema: it’s Manchester’s centre for international contemporary art, theatre and film, complete with a bar and restaurant. We’re proud to be founding partners of HOME, which opens up opportunities for students such as gaining direct industry involvement in the curriculum on relevant courses.

Want to enjoy your culture even closer to home? Our campus is home to New Adelphi Theatre, a 350-seat theatre which hosts a range of events, from side-splitting comedy to ground breaking dance projects and big band entertainment, involving both our own students and external companies. Salford Museum and Art Gallery and the Working Class Movement Library feature both historic collections and a vibrant programme of contemporary exhibitions and events for all ages. Festivals feature also on our Peel Park campus – with the annual Sounds From The Other City music Festival every May and Pink Picnic in June.

SHOPPING Ever wonder where Mancunians get their unique street style? The Northern Quarter is home to the best independent, vintage and boutique shops, as well as Afflecks, with four floors of alternative fashion. You can find all your high street favourites in Manchester Arndale centre, and designer labels in the city centre. The Trafford Centre is also just a short bus or tram ride away.

FOOD AND DRINK We admit it, we’re a bunch of foodies here and you can experience all types of cuisine at Salford and Manchester’s many food establishments. Salford’s Chapel Street, just a few minutes’ walk from main campus, is home to a growing number of independent outlets including authentic Italian pizza at Vero Moderno, freshly made tapas at Porta and beautiful cakes and artwork at Kith and Kin. In Manchester’s Northern Quarter it’s all about quirky diners, canteens and cafes, whilst the city’s Chinatown is the second biggest in the UK, with a host of Chinese, Korean and Japanese restaurants, as well as a number of speciality supermarkets. Just outside of the city centre you’ll find Rusholme’s famous ‘curry mile’ offering Indian, South East Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine. Make sure you also visit Central Bay at Salford Quays, the city’s new waterfront foodie destination with 20 different independent kitchens, microbrewery, live music and more.

SPORT MUSIC The Manchester music scene is more than Morrissey and Madchester (although Bez does still make an appearance now and again). Whatever your music taste, you’ll never be stuck for gigs in the city. Catch the biggest national and international acts at Manchester Arena, Co-op Live, the Apollo and Manchester Academy, and see your favourite indie and underground artists at Northern Quarter venues Night and Day and Soup Kitchen. Manchester’s alternative music scene still roars, with gigs at Rebellion, the Star and Garter and DIY venue Partisan. The University itself has been host to a range of great artists over the years as well, from The Who in 1968 and Status Quo in 1972, to The Smiths in the 1986 and Pulp in 1992. We’re currently making plans to re-develop Maxwell Hall so it can play host once more to the stars of the future!

We’re home to two of the biggest teams in football, Manchester United and Manchester City (the Students’ Union offers discounted tickets to some matches!) as well as Lancashire County Cricket Club at Emirates Old Trafford. Sportcity at the Etihad Campus houses the National Cycling Centre and Velodrome, the National Squash Centre and regional Tennis Centre. If you like your sports a little less theatre of dreams and a little more grassroots, Manchester and Salford are also home to a community of active and enthusiastic non-league football teams, as well as rugby, hockey and roller derby teams. You can even try your hand at outdoor swimming at Salford Quays, next to our MediaCity campus. On campus itself we have the Sports Centre, where facilities include a 25 metre swimming pool with spa and sauna, a fitness studio with strength and conditioning rooms, and multi-use sports hall for badminton, basketball, netball and five-a-sidefootball. You can also take part in local organised runs, such as parkrun at Peel Park.

Here are a few notes for you about our Open Day Travel Bursary scheme; how it works, and how to claim your bursary. The travel bursary is based on the number of miles between your home postcode, and ours. It’s based on how the crow flies between the centre of the first part of your postcode, and the centre of ours (M5). We offer five payment bands, as below:

Claiming your bursary is straightforward. Please make sure you check-in at the Open Day and have your QR code scanned. This is how we know you attended and is the first step in claiming back your bursary. During the week following the Open Day, we will send an email to each prospective student who has attended the event which will include a form you must complete to allow us to process the travel bursary.

There are a few rules and regulations to this, as you might expect, so here’s a quick run down: /

E mails will be sent to the email address used to book onto the Open Day.

/ P ayments will be made via BACS transfer to UK bank accounts only. Only one payment can be made per bank account, per event. / Y ou will be asked to provide the relevant sort code, account code and account name for the account you want the money to go to. / T he name on your booking should match the name on the bank account you’re using for your claim. If you need any help with this, feel free to email or call us using the contact details below. / C laims must be submitted within 14 days of the Open Day.
