FACILITIES SCIENCE, ENGINEERING AND ENVIRONMENT BUILDING Our £65 million building sits at the heart of our Peel Park campus. The building was designed to facilitate collaboration on real-world projects for our built environment, science, computing and engineering students. It’s home to cuttingedge facilities including a wind tunnel, heavy structures labs, a flight simulator and a robotics lab, as well as our flagship Maker Space.

SIMULATION SUITE Set up to replicate a hospital environment, the suite allows our health students to experience complex scenarios in a supportive and supervised environment using high-tech computer-controlled manikins. We also have a realistic home environment including a living room, bathroom, two bedrooms, and two 360° immersive simulation rooms to showcase any virtual environment.

LIBRARY FACILITIES Our Clifford Whitworth Library is a truly modern learning space open 24/7 with PC suites, Mac computers, bookable work rooms and more.

NEW ADELPHI New Adelphi is the home of our art, design, fashion, dance and performance students. Our specialist workshops include a motion capture studio, traditional model-making facilities, advanced CNC machines and a printing lab. Our performance students can stage live shows in our 350-capacity theatre and practice in our eight performance studios. There’s also plenty of social spaces, a gallery and a large lobby for exhibits.

MEDIA AND BROADCASTING FACILITIES Students studying at MediaCity have access to industry-standard production and editing suites, worldclass TV and radio studios and green screens, as well as a journalism center and five animation booths.

BODMER LABORATORY The Bodmer Lab, is our multi-million pound hub for students studying biology, biomedical sciences, chemistry and wildlife-related courses. Equipped with a sophisticated AV system and network of screens, the space is designed to ensure that students can clearly see and hear the lecturers and technicians from wherever they are situated.

BUSINESS SIMULATION AND MEDIA SUITES Our business simulation suites offer a range of technologically enhanced spaces to facilitate live projects and discussions plus access to digital whiteboards, gameplay apps and VR headsets. Our Media Suite features the latest broadcasting tech giving our students the tools to enhance their digital skills.

SPORTS AND SOCIETIES Team Salford unites all teams at the University with the aim of making exercise fun and accessible! Whether you’re a regular gymgoer or you’ve never taken the tags off your trainers, there’s a sport or activity that will suit you. We even have our own on-campus sports centre with a 25-metre pool, five fitness suites and equipment from Matrix Fitness UK. Additionally, the facilities include a multi-purpose sports hall, a grass football pitch, and an artificial 3G pitch. We offer a range of fitness classes in our state-of-the-art Studio Room, including Boxfit, Zumba, yoga, pilates, studio cycling and HIIT Bounce. Salford SU also have a huge range of studentled society groups that cover all aspects of life at Salford. FAITH Salford is a tolerant, diverse, welcoming and inclusive community for students of all faiths and beliefs, whether religious or non-religious. Our strong links with industry help bring learning to life. That could include hearing from guest speakers, doing industryled projects or attending networking events. Students can connect with employers and gain real-world insights throughout their studies. PLACEMENTS Many of our undergraduate and postgraduate courses offer the opportunity to undertake a professional placement, allowing you to gain valuable industry experience alongside your studies. ON-CAMPUS ACCOMMODATION FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS Peel Park Quarter is our thriving student village at the heart of our Peel Park campus which is available to undergraduate first year students. It offers a safe, supportive and social environment where you can make new friends, join in with weekly events and become part of our vibrant student community.

COST OF LIVING IN SALFORD To help you understand how much you will need to budget, we’ve provided a few examples below of everyday costs. ACCOMMODATION On-campus accommodation (run by Campus Living Villages) starts from £169.50* per week, depending on site and room size. Alternatively student accommodation in the local area costs from £135 for a shared bathroom, or £157 for an ensuite room. All bills are included in these accommodation options (electricity, water and wifi).

FOOD AND GROCERIES There are a range of stores to suit every budget. Preparing fresh meals at home rather than buying preprepared or takeaway food will save you money. We estimate you’ll need to spend £100 - £250* for essential food per month. Don’t forget to budget for cleaning products and toiletries as well.

UTILITIES AND OTHER OUTGOINGS Depending on the accommodation option you choose, such as private accommodation, you may have to budget for bills such as water, electricity, gas and Wi-Fi.

LEISURE A cinema ticket costs between £8£13*. The cost of eating at restaurants can vary. You can get a meal at a popular chain restaurant for £20 with a drink, or traditional pub meals cost around £10-£18 just for the main meal. There are also lots of free events, galleries and museums in Salford and Manchester. As a student, you’re entitled to discounts in many shops, restaurants and cinemas.

HEALTH AND FITNESS

STUDENT DISCOUNT As a University of Salford student, you’ll have access to a range of discounts and exclusive offers to help your money go further. Enjoy savings on campus with the Students’ Union Bolt Card, which offers discounts on food and drink, discover exclusive local offers through the Salford Rewards app, and take advantage of an International Student Identity Card (ISIC) for discounts on shopping, travel, entertainment and more. Our gym memberships start from £15* per month, depending on the facilities you choose to use. University sports teams will charge weekly membership fees plus the cost of your kit.

TRANSPORT A single bus ticket costs £2*, a weekly bus ticket costs about £18.60*, a single ticket on the tram costs £1.40*, and weekly tram tickets start from £10.60* depending on your destination. Manchester and the surrounding areas are also served by a number of convenient cycle routes.

HOW MUCH WILL I NEED? The UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) office requires you to provide evidence that you have sufficient funds to support yourself throughout the whole period of your studies. Without this, you will not be able to obtain a Student Route Visa. Costs that you will need to consider: /L iving cost: a minimum of £10,539* per year (maintained 28 days prior to your Visa application) /S tudy deposit: £5,500*. This is required before we can issue you an unconditional offer and give you your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).

PAYING YOUR FEES You can choose to pay your fees in full before your course starts and save 3% of the net remaining total after any scholarships have been applied, or you can set up a payment plan.

If you’re a master’s student, you can pay in seven consecutive monthly instalments and if you’re a bachelor’s student, you can pay in five consecutive monthly instalments.

SCHOLARSHIPS We offer a range of automatic scholarships to support high-achieving international students. If you are eligible, these awards are applied directly to your offer: /G lobal Gold Excellence Scholarship: Undergraduate applicants with ABB at A level (or an equivalent qualification from their home country), or who achieve 70% or above in our International Foundation Year, are eligible for £3,500 per year. Postgraduate applicants with a FirstClass degree (or equivalent) are eligible for a £3,000 scholarship. /G lobal Silver Excellence Scholarship: Undergraduate applicants with BBC at A level (or an equivalent qualification), or who achieve 65–69% in our International Foundation Year, are eligible for a scholarship worth £3,000 per year. Postgraduate applicants with a 2:2 degree (or equivalent) are eligible for a £2,500 scholarship.

/ I FY Excellence Scholarship: Applicants for our International Foundation Year who achieve an average grade of 6.0 or B in IGCSEs (or an equivalent qualification from their home country), are eligible for a £2,500 IFY Excellence Scholarship. INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION YEAR This one-year course is right for you if you’ve finished high school in your own country but don’t yet have the qualifications to start your undergraduate course or are new to the UK education system or have studied in the UK outside of the traditional school route. The International Foundation Year (IFY) will improve your English and study skills, whilst also teaching you subjects related to your chosen degree course.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

For the majority of our courses, we ask for a minimum of IELTS 6.0 (with no individual element below 5.5) or a satisfactory pass on our Pre-sessional English Course. PRE-SESSIONAL ENGLISH This English language programme is suitable for you if your English language is not at the right level for your course. It can prepare you to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

2. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED TO APPLY When you submit your application, you will need to ensure that you include the following:

/ A copy of your passport

/ A complete application detailing your education to date, including any certificates and transcripts

/ A copy of all previous visas or visa refusals from any country

/ Two references which will need to be on official headed paper with an official stamp or signature

/ A personal statement detailing why you want to study your chosen course / Evidence of English language / Details of any previous study in the UK / D etails of any UK entry student visas

Some courses may also require:

/ Portfolio / Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) - international students may be required by the Home Office and/or the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to apply for an ATAS Certificate before they begin their studies. If required this will be stated in your offer letter

3. RECEIVE AND ACCEPT YOUR OFFER After assessing your application, we may send you a conditional offer. This means that you will need to provide additional information, for example, a high school diploma certificate or your final degree result. Details of what additional information is required will be detailed in your conditional offer letter or documents. You must formally accept your offer to confirm your place at the University of Salford. You must also make sure you meet the conditions of your offer as soon as possible and in advance of our CAS deadline. 4. PAY DEPOSIT OR PROVIDE PROOF OF SPONSORSHIP / S elf-funded international students must pay a tuition fee a minimum deposit of £5,500* before we can issue a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies). / S ponsored students (students with an official financial sponsor) must provide official evidence of financial sponsorship. / You should check at this point if you need a Student Visa. 5. APPLY FOR ACCOMODATION You should search for accommodation as soon as you have accepted your offer. See page 22 for more information about finding somewhere to live and our on-campus accommodation. See page 18 for more details about the different accommodation options.

6. GET YOUR CAS AND PREPARE TO APPLY FOR YOUR VISA If you need to apply for a CAS you will be sent details of how to do this once you receive your unconditional offer. It is important to complete the CAS request form as accurately as possible, including uploading any requested documents, to ensure that this information is correct on your CAS. We will send your CAS by email which you must check and contact us if the details are incorrect. Please be aware that any scholarship you receive from the University that reduces your overall tuition fee will appear separately in your CAS. This amount will not show in the total amount you have paid towards your tuition fees in your CAS. You will need your CAS number to apply for a Student Visa.

When you apply for your Student Visa, you will need to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) and obtain your IHS number for inclusion on your Student Visa application form. For information on the IHS, please see

REGISTRATION AND

CHECK-IN

Before you start your course at the University of Salford you need to register as a student. This will allow you to collect your student ID card and will fully activate your IT and library accounts, allowing you to benefit from all of our services. 2. WHEN YOU ARRIVE

1. BEFORE YOU ARRIVE Make sure you hold an unconditional offer and have used your CAS to apply for a Student Visa to study in the UK. When you are eligible to register, you will receive an email containing your student ID number (i.e. @01234567) and a PIN number. Follow the link in your registration email and book a Check-in appointment to provide your immigration documents to the University.

When you arrive in the UK you must attend your Check-in appointment at the allotted time and date. It is very important that you bring original versions of the documents asked for in your offer letter. These will include: /Y our passport / Your visa / Y our Share code from the Home Office if you have a digital immigration status / Y our unconditional offer letter or transcripts from the University of Salford / A ny qualifications used to obtain your offer including your English Language qualifications The University is required by law to hold a copy of these documents to ensure that we can provide proof of your leave to remain in the UK should this information be requested by the Home Office.

3. AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT Once you have attended your Check-in appointment, you will be able to complete online registration and finalise payment of your tuition fees. You must complete this straight away to ensure you are a registered student. The University has a responsibility to report any student who fails to register to the Home Office. If you are unable to register on time, please contact askUS at askus@salford.ac.uk so we can advise you on your options.

4. ORIENTATION To help ensure you meet the requirements of your Student Visa and settle into your course at the University, our Home Office Compliance Team we will come and talk to you as part of your induction. Part of this talk will explain how to remain compliant with the conditions of your visa during your studies. We would highly recommend that you attend this talk and also contact askUS if you have any additional questions.
