BECOME A SOCIAL JUSTICE CHAMPION The Master of Arts in Education, School Counseling program focuses on educational justice while training graduates in counseling, consultation, and relationship-building skills required to pursue a career as an effective school counselor. Our graduates understand the different needs of diverse students and appreciate the wide variety of journeys each student has traveled. The program provides general preparation for Pre-K-12* school counselors as well as counselors in community college and university settings. Through our distinct combination of educational justice with counseling training, our graduates are uniquely equipped to advocate for and serve students from a wide range of backgrounds. *Coursework also meets all standards required for a California Pupil Personnel Services (PPS), School Counseling Credential.

LEARNING OUTCOMES Evaluate student academic, social/emotional, and career functioning using appropriate formal and informal assessment procedures Utilize cultural competence and identify the impact of their contribution to interpersonal interactions when communicating with the clients they serve Use the ethical standards of the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) or the American Counseling Association (ACA) to identify and resolve ethical conflicts Identify students affected by inequities and advocate for education justice Identify as a professional school counselor in keeping with the regional, state, and national norms for the profession
