UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME

STUDY ABROAD

GLOBAL GO

We hope you will be intentional, creative, and bold as you consider the international education experience that best suits your interest.

Whatever your major and dreams for the future, serious academic engagement outside your home country is one of the most valuable elements of a world-class undergraduate education. It’s never too early to begin planning. Your Study Abroad program directors are here to help.

STUDENT Experience

“Studying in South Korea first allowed me to flex the language learning skills I acquired as part of my Korean minor at Notre Dame. However, it also provided me with an intensely rich experience of intercultural exchange, immersing myself in the diversity that Korea has to offer. Notre Dame’s support allowed me to immerse myself fully in the culture and create a lifetime of unforgettable memories.”

Jessica Williams Seoul, South Korea

“Exploring Singapore fully has given me a perspective into a part of the world so different and so far from my own, one which I hope will inform a lifetime of travel and service beyond university.”

Student Experience

“Before coming to university, I had never left the United States, and I never imagined that I would have this chance to step so far outside of my comfort zone. I have grown so much as a person through studying abroad, so I will say again, thank you so much!”

Rachel Hennessy Hong Kong, China

Spring 2025

“I was able to travel to different towns in Normandy while studying abroad at Sciences Po in Paris. This opportunity had a deep impact on my experience in France. Visiting the beaches of Normandy allowed me to engage directly with French and global history in a powerful way.”

Emiliano Rodriguez Paris, France

Student Experience

“My semester abroad was in Santiago, Chile, where I was able to travel south to Patagonia. I went with a few friends and we were able to spot King penguins as well as complete the base trek to see the famous Patagonia towers. I was not only able to see incredible works of nature, and learn more about Chilean culture, but also reflect on the goodness of this world in which we live.”

INTERNSHIPS

Internships provide a deeper, immersive experience in your host country’s culture. Many study abroad programs include this option at small and large local organizations.

RESEARCH

Jump-start your senior thesis or conduct research while abroad. Ask your program directors how you can access local resources, archives, and other research materials in your host country.

SERVICE

Participate in a wide variety of community engagement opportunities in almost every program location. Service opportunities with local organizations provide a more holistic study abroad experience.

AM I ELIGIBLE?

Academic standing and adherence to community standards are among the factors for eligibility, as is program appropriateness for your academic goals.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

Tuition, room & board, and worldwide health insurance are covered for semester and full-year programs. Students are responsible for a study abroad fee, roundtrip airfare to program locations, and any personal expenses. Charges vary for summer programs and those taken during vacation periods. Financial aid and scholarships are available for study abroad.

HOW DO I APPLY?

Students apply for all study abroad programs during the fall semester of the year prior to the term abroad. Applications are submitted online and students must plan ahead to give advisers, rectors, and academic referees time to submit their information.
