These new spaces build on a series of recent campus improvements designed to enhance the student experience. From the Zachs Hillel Center for Jewish Life and renovated Village Apartments to upgraded residential lounges, gathering spaces, and recreational amenities, UHart continues to create environments that foster connection, community, and student engagement across campus.
The Konover Campus Center is being transformed into a vibrant dining and social destination. It will feature new food concepts, enhanced gathering spaces, and outdoor patio seating overlooking the pond. Vin Baker Outdoor Athletics and Recreation Complex Opening Fall 2026 Located on the residential side of campus, this new outdoor complex will feature tennis, basketball, and pickleball courts designed to support NCAA Division III athletics, club sports, intramurals, and recreational play. Named in honor of UHart basketball legend Vin Baker (Hon. ’26), the space will provide new opportunities for students to stay active, build community, and enjoy campus life.

Grant Family Track and Field Opened Fall 2024 The Grant Family Track and Field features an NCAA-standard, 400meter, eight-lane track surrounding a multipurpose field for recreation and intramurals, plus a dedicated throwing area. As a member of the Northern Cheyenne Nation, Joseph had two primary career interests: architecture and engineering. He is a senior executive with the award-winning MASS Design Group, where he directs a lab focused on sustainable Native community designs.
De’Kyiah Morey ’24 has a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from the Barney School of Business—and an abundance of confidence. Her confidence comes, in part, from the “Be a Force for Good” scholarship provided by Stanley Black & Decker (SBD), which she received in her junior year. SBD is an international leader in hand tools, power tools, and storage solutions. The 172-year-old company is known for committing funds only to initiatives in which they wholeheartedly believe. De’Kyiah is currently in her last year of a two-year rotational program at SBD, working remotely in global strategic sourcing. On the job, she helps manage projects designed to bring cost containment into the supply chain process. Her previous intern experience, coupled with what she learned at Barney, helps immeasurably. These skills include managing inventory levels and distribution plants, and navigating time zone differences to work with colleagues overseas.

A career readiness course I took helped me sharpen my résumé, landing me a role as a graphics maintenance engineer for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Despite the demanding schedule, it was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had.”

Carlie Bouchard ’26 Hometown: Ellington, Connecticut From a young age, Carlie Bouchard knew she wanted to be an elementary school teacher. That passion became even more personal in 2019 when her family adopted her nephew, inspiring her to focus her studies on special education and deepen her commitment to inclusive learning. As an integrated elementary and special education student in UHart’s College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions, Carlie gained hands-on experience that helped shape her future in the classroom. Through extensive fieldwork and student teaching placements, she spent significant time immersed in real school environments. Carlie completed a total of 30 weeks of student teaching at the University of Hartford Magnet School, including 20 weeks in a firstgrade classroom and 10 weeks in a special education program. These experiences allowed her to apply her coursework in meaningful ways, build confidence, and develop the practical skills needed to lead her own classroom. Carlie’s dedication and preparation paid off, as she secured a position as a special education teacher (before graduation) at R.D. Seymour Elementary School in East Granby, Connecticut.

Kaiden Ulysse ’29 Hometown: West Hempstead, New York Kaiden Ulysse is a vocal performance major at The Hartt School, and was initially drawn to Hartt by its reputation as one of the best performing arts conservatory. His decision to enroll has been reaffirmed through both academic and personal experiences. “All of the voice teachers here are well versed, experienced, and invested in their students’ success, and that’s something I’m extremely grateful to have.” Kaiden also highlighted the broader campus environment as a defining part of the college experience. “One of my favorite things about the University is the faculty and staff,” Kaiden said. “Everyone I’ve talked to has been exceptionally kind and caring since I’ve been here.” Beyond the classroom, Kaiden is actively involved in student life, participating in organizations including the Caribbean American Student Association, the Black Student Union, and the Performers of Color Association—communities that have helped shape a strong sense of belonging. “These clubs have helped make my experience at UHart amazing.” Looking ahead, Kaiden hopes to pursue a career in education, using music as a tool to inspire future generations. “After graduation, I hope to become a public-school music teacher and contribute to making music in schools accessible and engaging,” Kaiden said. “Hopefully inspiring future generations to want to explore music beyond the classroom.” Kaiden also offered advice for prospective students considering where to pursue their studies. “One of the most important aspects of having a good college experience is having a strong community with people that will lift you up and cheer you on,” Kaiden emphasized. “Our university is definitely worth considering when it comes to that.”

Jasmin Enriquez ’27 Hometown: Poughkeepsie, New York When Jasmin Enriquez first considered college, she never imagined the impact she would make both on campus and in the biomedical engineering field. Now a double major in biomedical engineering and mathematics, Jasmin has become a standout student leader, researcher, and mentor. From serving as president of both the Society of Women Engineers and the Biomedical Engineering Society to mentoring students through STRIDE and the Red Key Society, she has embraced every opportunity to grow personally and professionally during her time at UHart. Jasmin’s passion for research has also earned her national recognition. In 2025, she won first place in the Undergraduate Collegiate Rapid Fire Competition at the Society of Women Engineers national conference in New Orleans, where she presented her groundbreaking research on pancreatic cancer detection. Selected as one of only 10 finalists nationwide, Jasmin’s achievement highlighted both her dedication to advancing healthcare technology and the hands-on opportunities available to UHart students. Her research experience, leadership roles, and commitment to supporting others reflect the collaborative and empowering environment she has found at UHart. One that continues to shape her goal of pursuing a doctoral degree focused on improving diabetes care and access to lifesaving treatments.

Rhamsez Batchelor ’27 Hometown: East Hartford, Connecticut Originally arriving at the University of Hartford as an undecided student, Rhamsez Batchelor, an economics and sociology major with a minor in complexity, found the freedom to explore his interests and turn them into meaningful opportunities. Through his coursework, faculty mentorship, and hands-on experiences, Rhamsez developed the analytical and problem-solving skills that recently earned him top honors at the Quantum UP! Challenge. Competing independently against college teams from across Connecticut, he tackled a real-world supply chain challenge sponsored by Quantinuum, researching global suppliers, logistics, costs, and risk factors to develop the competition’s Best Solution. His winning presentation earned him a $5,000 prize. Outside the classroom, Rhamsez serves as a Hillyer College of Arts and Sciences ambassador, volunteers at admissions events and Helping Hawks Day, and works as a research assistant with the Center for Social Research. His current research explores ways to revitalize Hartford’s Keney Park while minimizing the unintended effects of gentrification, work that will support his senior thesis.
