The theme in 2026 of BLOOM turns the spotlight on flowers.
Coin Cabinet
One of the largest publicly accessible coin collections in Austria follows the trail of money back to its origins. The journey of discovery leads back to the Celts and Romans, showing rare pieces from antiquity to the Baroque period.

Schloss Eggenberg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, invites visitors to travel through time: from its unique architecture and magnificent state rooms to the art treasures of the Old Gallery, glittering coin cabinet and mysterious traces of life in the Archaeology Museum.
Visitors are fascinated by Schloss Eggenberg with its 24 Baroque state rooms featuring original furnishings, more than 500 ceiling paintings, a sensation from Japan, and – the highlight – the Planetarium Hall. The palace is surrounded by a scenic landscape garden.

The first floor of Schloss Eggenberg houses the Alte Galerie, Styria’s most valuable collection of Old Masters.
Masterpieces from the Middle Ages to the late Baroque period are on show in 22 themed rooms. They reflect 600 years of history and document social transformation.

Archaeology Museum
In the modern underground museum near the Planetary Garden, finds that are unique worldwide are on display, such as the cult wagon from Strettweg or the mask from Kleinklein.
Travel back to long-lost cultures, customs and traditions. Discover prehistoric finds from Styria as well as objects from classical antiquity, the ancient Near East and Egypt. Exhibits include internationally significant showpieces.

Go back in time to 17th century Graz and explore the lively atmosphere of the city. A digital reconstruction based on historical copper engravings and selected archaeological findings will transport you to another era.

Flavia Solva
A visit to Flavia Solva in Wagna offers a journey of discovery back to Roman times.
Once considered one of the most cultured cities in the Roman province of Noricum, the city was partially excavated in the 19th and 20th centuries. The special exhibition Romans on the Road is on show until June 26, 2026.

The arsenal once served as a weapons storehouse, ensuring that the city was always ready for defence. Today, some 32,000 historical military objects can be admired in their original location.
The Styrian Armoury was built during a period of intense conflict. From the 15th to the 18th century, life in this region was dominated by ongoing wars with Hungarian rebels and the Ottoman
Built between 1642 and 1644, the armoury served as an equipment centre for foot soldiers and cavalry for around 100 years. Today, it serves as both a monument and a museum. Starting this year, the Styrian Armoury has been designated a “European Heritage Site.”
The History Museum guides visitors through the checkered history of Styria. The museum is housed in the Palais Herberstein, itself a piece of Graz history located in the heart of the
Folk Life Museum at Paulustor
Housed in the former Capuchin monastery at the foot of Graz’s Schloßberg, the museum reveals different modes of life from the past to the present day.
The display depot is not an exhibition in the usual sense, rather it offers direct glimpses of the diverse collection that includes musical instruments, furni ture, fashion and much more besides. It bridges the gap between a visit to the museum and the collection work
The National Socialist period in Styria is examined in a kind of history workshop. What was the fascination and appeal of the ideology? What were the consequences of the National Socialist power grab for the people? How did they experience the war?

A trip back to Styria’s past awaits visitors, from the High Middle Ages to the end of the 20th century. Some 100 objects and associated questions provide intriguing historical food for thought. Let’s get started!

The permanent exhibition asks how the current situation came about, as well as taking a close look at critical issues of modern times. What makes us feel secure or insecure? The Folk Life Museum also houses one of the few remaining ‘folk costume rooms’.
Stories of Old Age. On Housing, Life and What Pays Off Mar. 26, 2026 to Jan. 6, 2027
Based on the nine-month collaborative project ‘Ageing Stories – Exploring Living and Life Together’, the exhibition presents a variety of approaches to the topics of age(ing), living and life itself.
BLOOM: Speaking Through Flowers. Stories of Giving May 21, 2026 to Jan. 31, 2027
In the Garden Room, the focus is on an everyday practice and its cultural significance: the giving of flowers.
The Joanneumsviertel was opened as a spacious, modern and accessible cultural centre in 2011.
Housing several museums and collections, the Joanneumsviertel represents an attractive space for encounters, lending outdoor events a distinctive backdrop.

Neue Galerie Graz
The Neue Galerie Graz, one of the largest and most important art museums in the country, owns over 60,000 works by both Austrian and international artists.
The collection ranges from the 19th century to the present day with works by renowned artists, from Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller to Wilhelm Thöny, Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt to Maria Lassnig and Alex Katz. These artworks are presented in the permanent collection exhibition.

Gunter Brus, co-founder of Viennese Actionism, is one of Austria’s most important artists.
In the BRUSEUM, the Neue Galerie Graz has amassed a comprehensive collection from various creative phases of the world-renowned Styrian artist, who passed away in 2024.

Natural History Museum
A search for traces of life covering everything from the history of the Earth via geology and mineralogy to botany and zoology.
The Natural History Museum’s permanent exhibition moves through the history of the Earth with many fascinating examples of the diversity of animate and inanimate nature, inspiring people of all ages. The mineral collection and the room-filling relief map of Styria not only provide information about nature, but themselves represent a piece of museum history.

When rocks or minerals were named, the appearance or properties of a mineral were sometimes compared to the shapes or colours of plants. This wide-ranging topic is presented as an intervention in the museum’s two mineral rooms.
Snow Was Yesterday. Climate Change in Styria
The effects of man-made climate change can be felt in multiple ways in Styria, too. Visitors learn what the consequences are for plants, animals and humans with specific examples taken from nature.

The ‘Friendly Alien’, as the art museum was named by its architects, is the architectural landmark at the heart of the old town
International contemporary art is presented in the exhibition rooms, called the ‘Spaces’.

On show are contemporary artistic positions that engage with humans and flowers, which, after all, share 30% of their genetic material.
Eva Schlegel has long been devoted to how perception and immateriality shape our relationship to space. Her ideas are expressed in sculptures, photographs, graphite and lead drawings, videos, pictorial objects and augmented reality works.

Schloss Trautenfels
Lying majestically at the foot of the Grimming mountain, the historical building impresses with its unique location. As a multifaceted art and cultural venue, Schloss Trautenfels represents the history, culture and nature of the Liezen district.
Set up as a permanent exhibition, the Landscape Museum presents, in 13 kaleidoscope-like thematic rooms, a fascinating journey through nature, culture and the history and tales of the region. A breathtaking view of the mountains and the wide expanse of the central Enns valley opens up from the observation tower.
With its history as Burg Neuhaus reaching back to the 13th century, Schloss Trautenfels looks back on an eventful past. After acquiring the complex in 1664, Count Siegmund Friedrich von Trauttmansdorff had it redesigned in the Baroque style and named it Trautenfels. Today, high-quality frescoes by Carpoforo Tencalla and elaborate stucco work by Alessandro Sereni, combined with elements of contemporary architecture, all invite visitors to explore the building.
BLOOM: Flower, Personally. Of Myths, Symbols, Fragrance and Love

The exhibition highlights flowers as a cultural and sensory phenomenon of everyday life, combining different genres to create a complex approach to such topics as ‘blooming’, ‘beautifying’ and ‘inspiring’. The focus is on symbolic ‘flower personalities’. From the starflowered scented narcissus to the white and delicate daisy, associations are made with objects of everyday culture, customs and rituals. In this way a colourful panorama unfolds, encouraging visitors to rediscover their own, very personal connection to flowers.

The house in which Peter Rosegger was born offers visitors the chance to travel back through time to Styria of the mid-19th century.
Peter Rosegger was born in 1843 at the Kluppeneggerhof in the Waldheimat region of Styria. Here he also set some of his most famous stories. Discover what farm life was like when the great Styrian writer himself was still a ‘forest farmer’s boy’.

With the proceeds from his early books, Peter Rosegger had a country house built in Krieglach in 1877. Here he established a retreat where he and his family spent their summers from then on.
Discover ‘Rosegger between Conservation and Progress’. The permanent exhibition reveals the writer beyond the clichés as a critical and political spirit, who was certainly skilled at self-promotion.
Changing Childhood. From the Straw Doll to the Smartphone up to Oct. 31
The special exhibition in the Studierhäusl (small study) shows how notions of childhood and our treatment of children have changed throughout history.

More than 100 original buildings convey everyday life, home decor, work and craftsmanship – all embedded in an impressive landscape that seamlessly combines history and nature.
On your way through the valley, you will experience how authentically the past can be conveyed: historical buildings, traditional construction methods, relatable ways of life. Guests are treated to regional specialities in the museum’s own restaurant, ‘Zum Göller’.
BLOOM: Blooming Medicine
The Power of Plants

The exhibition presents herbs and spices and their traditional use in folk medicine and cooking.

Admire native and exotic animals up close surrounded by the beautiful landscape of east Styria. Over 700 animals belonging to 85 species from five continents inhabit Herberstein Animal World.
Particularly popular are the petting zoo, the big cats, the cheeky marmosets, and of course our baby animals.
In the House of Biodiversity, digital and interactive stations, specimens, and models offer exciting insights into species diversity. Round off a successful day with a visit to the historic garden or the garden palace.

Museums in Schloss Stainz
The former Augustinian monastery rises majestically on a hill in the middle of Stainz.
The complex, later converted into a Baroque castle, is now privately owned by the Meran family, the descendants of Archduke Johann and Anna Plochl. Alongside the privately used rooms, Schloss Stainz houses the Erzherzog Johann Museum, the Hunting Museum and the Agriculture Museum.

Erzherzog Johann Museum, Schloss Stainz
‘A life dedicated to progress’ is an apt description of Archduke Johann, who exerted lasting influence on Styria.
Inspired by the innovations and new ideas of his time, he launched initiatives in science, technology and economics, some of which are still felt today. Numerous works of art, original objects of culturalhistorical value and written documents illustrate the eventful life of this outstanding individual.

Schloss Stainz Hunting Museum
Hunting is not only a skill to be learned; it has also developed its own culture.
The Hunting Museum impresses visitors with historical hunting weapons, works of art and cultural-historical exhibits. These artefacts show hunting culture in all its facets – from the historical, sociological and philosophical perspective. Visitors will also learn interesting facts about wild animals and their habitats, as well as ways in which humans and nature interconnect.

Agricultural Museum Schloss Stainz
The Agricultural Museum is concerned with the fundamentals of life, the production of food and essential raw materials.
The exhibition invites you to explore rural life and work from preindustrial times to the present day. Taking a look at the revolutionary initiatives of Archduke Johann, it examines nutrition and production in agriculture and forestry.

BLOOM: Fields in Bloom. Into the Blue May 9 to Oct. 31, 2026
What do flax, potatoes, scarlet runner beans, pumpkins, and corn have in common? That’s right: they are all flowering crops.
This major special exhibition is dedicated to their cultural history. Topics range from their significance for the indigenous populations in their regions of origin, their adoption in Europe to the challenges of modern agriculture.

KiöR – Institute for Art in Public Space Styria
Art in Public Space makes artistic works, ideas, and highly topical questions accessible to all, turning them into issues.
KiöR initiates and supports art projects in both analogue and digital public spaces. Projects are created jointly with Austrian and international artists, as well as communities, associations and initiatives. In a spirit of experimentation and innovation, these projects dare to be unconventional.
Enjoy art in the open air. The impressive hilly landscape garden creates a special atmosphere of tranquillity. Winding paths lead to more than 80 contemporary sculptures.
The works are by artists including Yoko Ono, Erwin Wurm, Nancy Rubins and Werner Reiterer. Encouraging visitors to explore, experiment and reflect, they establish a fascinating dialogue between landscape, art and people.
Daniela Brasil. Up/Rooting
May 16 to Oct. 31, 2026
Guest artist Daniela Brasil installs a sensual, political and communal laboratory exploring art, nature and life, on Magnolia Hill. The focus is on the colonial journey of the maracujá.
