The Union Home Mortgage Servicing Department is excited to announce the formation of the Servicing Operational Excellence Team. This team will focus on identifying improvement opportunities within daily servicing operations. Its goal is to reduce inefficiencies by implementing technical solutions, updating procedures, and applying lean processes. The team includes Denise Bain, Kelly Johnson, Matt Orloff, Chase Phelps, and Erin Popa, and will be managed by Kassandra Schmiermund.

Mortgage 101 for 2026 L.E.A.D. Interns
With summer just around the corner, Union Home University (UHU) is excited to welcome our 2026 L.E.A.D. Intern Class to campus. During their first week at UHM, interns will participate in foundational learning experiences led by our UHU Partners, including Mortgage 101 and Leadership 101. These sessions are designed to provide a strong introduction to both the mortgage industry and the professional skills needed to succeed in their careers.
In Mortgage 101, interns will gain a comprehensive understanding of the loan process from application to closing while exploring the key elements of the homebuying process. They’ll also develop a broader awareness of the mortgage industry, helping them build confidence and context for their roles. Through interactive activities and hands-on learning, interns will see how the loan process works in real time and collaborate with team members across departments, gaining insight into the many roles that contribute to a successful experience.
Returning interns will take part in an enhanced Leadership 101 program, a 2-day session led by alumni from our Future Leaders cohorts. This experience focuses on personal and professional development, with topics including DISC assessments, the impact of mentorship, and how individual learning styles influence productivity. Interns will also explore strategies for demonstrating leadership at any level, building strong work habits, and understanding the difference between growth and fixed mindsets. The emphasis on continuous development and leadership will equip our returning interns with tools to set an example for our new interns and develop their leadership skills in their career.
This year’s leader for the program is Megan Robinson, an intern-to-full-time Partner whose continuous drive and partnership shines through each project she takes on. UHU would also like extend their gratitude to the many Partners making this a world class experience for our interns.
We can't wait to welcome our interns this May and see their continued success and development throughout the summer!

How to Refer Others to UHIS
For friends and family referrals, we recommend having them email us at agent@unionhomeinsurance.com since they won’t be in Encompass. From there, our team will follow up directly and collect the necessary information over the phone, while also tracking where the referral originated based on the email.
If a Partner refers a client and the client reaches out to us directly, they can conveniently use the link available on our website.
Lastly, if a Partner is reaching out on behalf of a client to obtain a quote, they can send over an Encompass screenshot along with the client’s contact information, and our team will take it from there by connecting with the client to gather any additional details needed to complete the quote.
Don’t Miss Out on Discounts!
Loan Officers should keep two key discounts in mind when quoting: the advanced quote discount, and the package discount.
The advanced quote discount applies when a quote is completed 7–14 days before the closing date, helping maximize savings.
The package discount is available when clients bundle their auto and home insurance, which not only lowers their rate but also gives access to more carriers, since some do not offer home-only policies.

Improvements to Software Installations & Updates
Starting Tuesday, April 28 , IT is introducing a streamlined software delivery process to improve installations and updates across all company devices. This change will support greater security, reliability, and consistency for all applications. th
What is Changing?
Software installations and updates will be delivered automatically through the Company Portal application.
Most of these updates will happen silently in the background to minimize interruption.
What Action is Needed?
While impact will be minimal, Partners need to act if they receive a notification.
Notifications will vary based on the update needed (Install/Uninstall/Software Update).

Start your day with a good-for-you breakfast or drink, like coffee or tea. Start with your strengths - work on something you’re good at to build selfconfidence, then tackle a tougher task. Think of something in your life you want to improve, and determine one small step you can take toward that goal.
Be a tourist in your own town. You may be surprised what you discover in your own backyard!
Try prepping your lunches or picking out your clothes for the week for a sense of control.
Practice forgiveness. People who forgive have better mental health and are more satisfied with life. Send a thank you note, letting someone know why you appreciate them. Take 30 minutes for a walk in natureproven to increase energy levels, reduce depression and boost wellbeing. Enjoy 15 minutes of sunshine! Reach out for help when you need it from a mental health professional.

As your yard takes shape and your gardens come into bloom, make sure you can see the beauty by washing your windows!
Service your grill before you fire it up for the summer! Make sure it’s clean and that any gas hoses / connections are secure. Rather than using a grill brush, which can get left behind and end up in your food and become a health risk, try cleaning the grill with an onion half - gives an added seasoning benefit!
Mulch your landscaping / garden beds with 2 to 4 inches of mulch to prevent evaporation and keep weeds in check. Plan for 1 cubic yard of mulch to cover 100 square feet.
