2. SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The players to watch from the Panthers going into Thursday night are forwards Ethan Sassine and Max Wilkins, who each led their team last season with six goals. Jordan Beam is also a familiar name, as he scored the lone goal for GSU in last year’s matchup in Atlanta, Ga. Midfielder Ross Finnie was selected to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Team after dishing out six assists in 2021. The senior has also become an All-Conference selection in every season that he’s been on the team. In the same poll, Georgia State was selected to finish seventh out of nine teams in the Sun Belt Coaches Poll. They come back to the SBC after leaving in 2021 due to the conference’s decision to discontinue men’s soccer, and then returned when they brought it back after spending last season in the MAC. Georgia State went 13-7 during the fall 2021 season with deep runs into both their conference tournament and the NCAA Tournament. Their season ultimately ended in the second round of the postseason to No. 3-seeded Georgetown.
3. SERIES HISTORY - UNF is 3-5-0 all-time against Georgia State with an 0-3-0 record against them at home. - The Ospreys beat GSU, 3-1, on the road to open last year highlighted by two successful penalty kicks. - Searching for back-to-back wins against the Panthers for the first time since 2006-07. - Have their sights set on fourth straight home-opening victory.
