General Regulations Overall Result
1.
All games (where applicable) played as per BUCS playoff regulations - a result must be achieved in all fixtures.
2.
Where facility demands require it, variations of overtime/extra time may be used – for example, moving straight to a “shoot out” or similar rather than a period of extended play. For the Varsity series, this regulation will apply to: Hockey, Football
The shootout, penalty shots should follow the standard NGB procedure as identified in the rules of the game. 3.
All results will be entered into a league table - with 1 point awarded for a win, and 0 points awarded for a loss. In the event of a match abandoned, or similar, no points will be awarded.

The winner of the Varsity Trophy will be the team with the highest number of points at the conclusion of all fixtures
5.
The Varsity competition will take place on a mutually agreed date each year
6.
Unless otherwise agreed the host will alternate each year between Aberystwyth and Bangor University

Where competing teams play in different BUCS tiers and thus different regulations apply (for example the number of players/matches in a squash fixture), the rules for the lower ranking team should apply, unless otherwise agreed. For example in squash, lower ranked teams normally consist of 3 players, however for the purposes of expanding the Varsity offer, both parties may elect to extend the match to 5 players.
8.
Where necessary and considered acceptable by all parties it is possible to have a mixed gender fixture, as opposed to separate Male and Female competition – for example, Ultimate Frisbee, Squash.
9.
The competition shall consist of a fixture in the following sports as a minimum requirement;
