From the Dean's Desk Dean Nicholas R. Blanchard On behalf of the faculty, staff and students of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Inaugural issue of UMES Rx Times. The purpose of this newsletter, which will be produced biannually, is to keep you informed of happenings, news and events here at the UMES SOP. As you are probably now aware, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) announced in June that the University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Doctor of Pharmacy program had been awarded Full Accreditation. The hard work and dedication of our faculty, staff and students, along with the support from the university and the community, enabled us to reach this important milestone, and although the road to where we are now has been long, this is just one of many important milestones identified by our Strategic Plan. It is such a pleasure to be working with such a highly qualified Executive Council, as well as a dedicated and student focused faculty and staff. We are doing everything we can to continue to grow and improve and to become one of the top 25 schools of pharmacy in the nation. As you read through this newsletter, please realize how it demonstrates our Faculty’s commitment to the mission of the School and the University and how it reflects their dedication to our goal of achieving Eminence in all of our academic, clinical, and community service programs. On May 16, 2013, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore held the Inaugural Hooding and Awards Ceremony for the School of Pharmacy Class of 2013. Many proud friends and family members gathered at The Fountains Wedding and Conference Center in Salisbury, Maryland and watched their graduates, dressed in academic regalia highlighting pharmacy and UMES colors, olive green and maroon, respectively, receiving their Doctor of Pharmacy hoods from the Dean. After three years of hard work, each graduate received recognition for their dedication and their achievement for completing this extremely rigorous program. In addition to many state and national awards, the most prestigious recognitions were valedictorian, awarded to Kyle Odenwelder and salutatorian, awarded to both Michael Geesaman and DeAngelo Price. The Dean, Nicholas Blanchard created new awards that will
