SPRING INDUCTION

THE PURPOSES OF THE OMICRON DELTA KAPPA SOCIETY

1. To recognize those who have attained a high standard of efficiency in five areas of collegiate activities (Scholarship; Athletics; Campus or Community Service, Social and Religious Activities, and Campus Government; Journalism, Speech, and the Mass Media; the Creative and Performing Arts) and to inspire others to strive for conspicuous attainment along similar lines.

2. To bring together the most representative students in all phases of collegiate life and thus to create an organization which will help to mold the sentiment of the institution on questions of local and intercollegiate interest.

3. To bring together members of the faculty and student body of the institution on a basis of mutual interest and understanding.

REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENT SELECTION INTO OMICRON DELTA KAPPA

1. Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student standing.

2. Rank in upper thirty-five percent of respective class.

3. Receive a minimum number of activity points.

4. Distinguish themself in one of the five areas of leadership.

5. Be of unquestioned good character.

6. Receive a positive membership vote of seventy-five percent of the active circle present and voting.

REQUIREMENTS FOR FACULTY, STAFF, ALUMNI, AND HONORARY MEMBERSHIP

Individuals who have achieved distinction in their own field of expertise, or who have rendered remarkable and significant service to causes may be elected into Faculty, Staff, Alumni, or Honorary membership in Omicron Delta Kappa. Qualifications should include exemplary character, scholarship and intelligence, service and leadership in campus or community life, good citizenship, and fellowship and consecration to democratic ideals.

Lisa Alexander

Lisa Alexander is the Program Manager for Sustainability Programs and Initiatives in the Department of Resident Life at the University of Maryland, where she is celebrating 20 years of service. A former Resident Director in Elkton and Oakland Halls, her work is grounded in a deep commitment to student development, community building, and well-being.

In her current role, Lisa has transformed how sustainability is experienced on campus. She is the creator of the Green Terp Program and the Terp to Terp Campus ReUse Store, initiatives that promote waste reduction, support affordability, and empower students to make informed, sustainable choices. Her work connects environmental responsibility with equity and access, ensuring meaningful impact in students’ daily lives.

Lisa serves on the UMD Sustainability Fund Review Committee and recently completed her term as chair of the Sustainability Network for the Association of College and University Housing Officers International. She holds a B.S. in Geography from Pennsylvania State University and an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Lynn University.
