Butwile, a 32-year-old mother living near Lake Kisale in D. R. Congo, gave birth to ten children. But tragically, within a year, six died from severe malnutrition.

When Butwile’s remaining four children began to show signs of nutritive illness, local healthcare workers convinced her to bring them to the nearest United Methodist partnering health facility. There, the children were given therapeutic nutritional support and treatment until they had sufficiently recovered to benefit from improved community food production efforts by the Yambasu Agricultural Initiative.

Within just one month of carefully administered nutrition—provided entirely free of charge thanks to the generosity of people like you—the children regained their health. Today, with more access to locally grown staples and fresh produce, they are thriving, embodying a powerful example of how community awareness and access to good nutrition are restoring hope for vulnerable families, thanks to the partnership of people like you.

In Zimbabwe, four United Methodist mission farms—Nyadire, Hanwa, Old Mutare and Mutambara—went more than a decade without a meaningful harvest. Marie’s Story: From Grieving Mother to Community Champion

Marie, a mother of three from D. R. Congo, lost her first child just hours after birth to neonatal tetanus, a disease that could have been prevented through vaccination during pregnancy. But at the time, Marie was unaware of the existence and importance of vaccinations.

“When my baby showed signs of illness, I thought it was something else,” she says. “I never imagined I could lose my child.”

“Vaccination is a simple step that saves lives. I share my story so other mothers will protect their children.”

Months later, Marie began working with the community outreach team linked to the Diengenga Health Center in D. R. Congo. During her next pregnancies, she completed all recommended vaccines and ensured her children completed theirs.

Cooking, Sharing and Connecting: A Kansas Church Embraces Immigrants

“When we came to America, we didn’t think anyone here would love us. At your church, we have found that you do love us.”

The past year has been challenging for immigrants and their advocates. But the United Methodist Church has not given up on the biblical mandate to welcome the stranger, and Woodland United Methodist Church in Wichita, Kansas, is among the most active.

Supported by a recent Mustard Seed Migration Grant, the congregation provided grocery cards and cooking utensils to recent immigrants and arranged meetups to cook together and share stories. “This grant allowed us to step out in faith to connect with a group we knew little about and to find ways to build community with them,” said a church leader.

Thanks to You, a Young Child in the West Bank Has Mobility and Hope

Before Global Ministries stepped in, eight-year-old Mira Ali was living in a tent without benefit of a bed or wheelchair. And, despite significant developmental delays affecting sensory processing, physical development, and communication, Mira had never received rehabilitation.

After a thorough assessment, Mira was fitted for a wheelchair and placed with a Global Ministries partner equipped to provide an intense rehabilitation regime, including physical therapy, occupational therapy and weekly group sessions. Every day, Mira improves a little bit more in her muscular strength, balance and sensory regulation. Thanks to these interventions, Mira is now thriving, participating in music and games and enjoying the company of other residents. Meeting the needs of the most vulnerable, like Mira, is a vital step in building lasting peace.
