Everyone has things they are attached to – a childhood stuffed animal, a pair of beautiful diamond earrings, a handful of graduation photos, and of course, our iPhones. However, we rarely identify these items as the incredibly powerful mechanisms for helping us to better understand our identities. “Know Your Worth” comprises a series of assemblages exploring my relationship to possession. In contemplating the things I own, whether they exist physically, digitally, or conceptually, I have come to better understand myself, my priorities, and how these exist as products of my experiences. Through the process of arranging and rearranging these compositions, I have explored ideas of privilege, nature, music, feminism, travel, and nostalgia. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, this work has evolved to focus on the process of this exploration rather than the installation of a final outcome.
